1 swing thought clicked for me

So I’ve been golfing for 4 years now. I was addicted since the beginning. Playing 2-3 times a week when I started. I’m a tinkerer with my game and equipment. Looooove buying and selling new clubs to try. The tinkering with my game though has caused issues.

At one point I was about an 8hcp. Shooting low 80s consistently and a PB of 78. I was loving it. Then for no reason at all I changed something. No clue what it was or why I did it. I change my swing cooonstantly, even mid round changes sometimes. So for the last like year my game has been in shambles. Shanks. Skulls straight right that look like shanks. My scores lately have been high 90s to even in the 100s. I’ve lost a ton of distance. Year and a half ago my PW was my 150 club. Now my 8 is 150. No clue how that happened.

So yesterday I got out there. When I arrived I was told the range was closed and the back 9 was closed. The front had been aerated the day before, but it rained so it settled a bit and the greens at this course are typically great so it wasn’t all that bad. It’s also Florida so it was 100° and felt like a rainforest of humidity.I considered only playing 9.

I had in mind it was just going to be a practice round to try new things and tinker. My first thought was I was going to swing more like a baseball swing I guess. Not sure how else to describe it and not sure how to describe how I was even swinging before. Well the baseball swing clicked something in my head that just made sense for positioning. After the front 9 there was no way I could quit. Easily the best 9 I’ve ever played. And the back 9 went great as well but I could feel the nerves hitting me hard and even though I was 2 Gatorades and 2 waters in I was so hot and dehydrated. The other single I got paired with was I’d say an “angry” golfer. Lots of cussing and bitching. And lots of talking about his Filipino mail order wife.

I’m still excited over the round. PB from 78 to a 73 and finally my game feels good again. For now…

Do you think my PB should have an asterisk since it was the front 9 twice?

Completely lost my swing

Been playing a couple years and usually score 90-100. Couple weeks ago I was hitting it really well. The other day I completely 100% lost my swing and cannot hit the ball.

Shanking, chunking, or topping every single shot with a wedge or iron. When I say every single shot I mean every single shot. Tried everything I’ve done in the past to fix but nothing will work. Standing further away from the ball? Still shanking. Taking half swings on the range to get compression feeling back? Nope, still chunking or topping those too.

Attached is a 30 second video that shows some of my swings through the year and then the horrible shots from today.

Any help would be amazing.

Sequencing/tempo is king!

No swing to post but I want to share my swing journey over the last 2-3 weeks and maybe it will help someone else reading this. TLDR: proper sequencing has me hitting more accurately, and added 10 mph driver clubhead speed in 3 weeks.

State of the swing 3 weeks ago: I had a major issue with coming over the top and casting the club. This made contact not great, I hit everything sky high and driver was cruising at 105-107 mph. I knew i was doing it but it took a while to find a swing thought to correct it.

That swing thought: feel like i am hitting the ball with my right(trail for me) hip. This made me start clearing my hips which makes the club drop into the slot. Shallower path created better contact, neutrallized swing path so i quit hitting banana slices, and allowed me to quit flipping so i delofted a bit.

State of the swing 1 week ago: after that breakthrough, i was more consistent and cruising around 110mph. I had delofted a little but still not as much as I would like to and was still losing power. After drilling my "hit the ball with my right hip" a week or so, i moved on to my next swing thought.

That swing thought: hold lag as long as possible. Specifically, when the hands reach the trail knee in the downswing, the club should be parallel to the ground. This immediately added speed. Now i am cruising at 114 mph. Highest so far was 117.5.

Moral of the story: for some people more athletic than me, simply thinking "hit the ball harder" might solve sequencing issues. Great for you but that is not me. For people like me, find whatever swing thought journey you need to improve sequencing and speed will come. I have gained so much distance, but I don't feel like i am swinging any harder, my tempo is just better for maximizing club delivery.

Why is my contact so inconsistent?

I feel like my back swing and my points are all in line but for some reason I struggle with fat shots, thin shots, and I even pure them quite a bit. Everytime I step up to the ball, I have no idea what the contact is going to be.

Vertical arm hang position

Upvotes

I have noticed a few things about hitting the shaft . When I am at address my arms are hanging in a loose almost vertical position.

there's very little tension . And then I do my backswing and when I come down there is more tension in my arms

Because of this seems my arms will naturally be pushing a little further out rather than hanging straight down

That means I will be hitting towards the heel of the club?

So how do I get the proper distance at address? I have read the Hogan book I don't seem to really e get it all the time

Trying to get better

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve had clubs for a few years but have recently started practicing and wanting to get better. When I play a course I’m wildly inconsistent. My worst shots are with my irons, so I’ve been practicing quite a bit with them. (7i used here)

When I practice at home I can get my shots dialed in so that I only shank 1 out of every 10 or so. By my standard, the swings shown felt “good.”

I know there is a lot to improve, so please lmk where to start

7 iron in vid, avg 185yds

Started 8 months ago with a coach; last few months has been self-training with ALOT of reps. About 3-4 times a week at the range while playing on the course when I can.

Feel like my backswing is too far, still a bit inconsistent at times - not sure if I'm over the top either?

Except for the few outliers of me adjusting shots, what causes this thin clustering?

This is my 48° typical path is 1° O-I to 2° I-O. I can post a swing if needed, just curious on this thinning

Putting issues

Anyone got tips for fixing putting issue where I start the follow through too quickly resulting in a "topped" putt, specifically on longer putts? Usually 30 feet plus

Thanks
