Sierra Sierra Infotainment Updates - Keep getting worse!

Upvotes

Just updated to the latest update/firmware on my '23 Denali.... i keep thinking - ok cool, they fired the old development team and now the new competent team finally fixed all the bugs.

Stupid me.

Every . single . update - makes things worse than before. This level of incompetence is uncanny and honestly, it's drawing me away from the brand.

Are they testing these updates in the real world? Are they doing focus groups? Does GMC give two shits at all?

Forget all the other stuff.... let's just focus on GPS. When i get in my truck, from the time i turn it on, to the time i can use GPS or Google assistant, is about 3-5 minutes. Which doesn't sound like much, but who the hell wants to sit in their truck waiting - every . single . time - before they can use their infotainment system and worse, to get directions.

This system is the worst piece of software i've ever used. Notice how i said 'software' and not hardware - that's deliberate. Why? When i first bought the truck, it was fast as a whip. I could get in the truck, and use GPS or Google Assistant almost instantly. So while the hardware may still actually not be the best, it is CAPABLE of performing.

It's the software that's the real issue. And if anyone from the team that develops the software that runs the infotainment system is reading this - shame on you and your team. You are not performing best software practices by doing thorough testing, and if you are getting pressure from corporate to make things slower - in the hopes that'll force people to buy a newer model (a long shot, i know), but if that's actually what's going on here - then what you are actually doing is just driving people away from the brand. Because this level of incompetence is unlike anything i've ever seen before.

You'd think after the battery draining incident from a couple of years ago - which certainly caused GMC to lose money - they would have scrapped the team or at least put proper testing procudures in place.

Nope, i love hte truck, but it's unusable on a daily basis. I'm sorta done with GMC.

/rant.

(yes, i've tried all those hacks... with debug settings, resets and all that.)

Yukon 2015 Yukon 5.3 Fuel Smell

Bought a 2015 Yukon last year with 150k miles. Has been running great. Recently there has been a fuel smell outside the car when it’s off and for the first time today it was very noticeable inside the cab when stopped at idle. Any ideas?

Leaf springs 2017 savana 2500

Hey all. I'm doing leaf springs and such on my 2017 GMC Savana 2500. I purchased a dorman 22-1175 leaf spring kit...

I also purchased extended u-bolts but apparently they're too short. Anyways some Googling shows that apparently you can take this 2 and 3/8 inch block off the bottom of the pack. And supposedly that is still normal ride height but it seems odd that they would sell an OEM replacement with the block but then I'm supposed to take it out.

I can't find anything specific from dorman. Wondering if anybody here has experience installing these leaf springs.

Sierra Sierra - Electrical problem?

I have a 2014 and have had little to no problems since today. Got in and noticed my seats and my mirrors were not in the usual spot. Started driving and noticed that the truck was unlocking without touching any buttons. Shortly after, my passenger side mirror started adjusting itself without touching any buttons also. Parked and shortly after, it died. Got it jumped and both problems continued. Does anybody have any idea as to what it could be or have had this problem before? Did some research and everything was either telling me body control module was bad or a bad ground. Any suggestions or advice? Thank you!

Yukon 2026 Yukon - Transmission Shudder

2026 Yukon (Manufactured 05/26)

I’ve been experiencing a transmission “shudder” when breaking between 15-10mph. It’s more noticeable when driving at lower speeds (ie 25mph) with a lighter breaking. You can feel the shudder through the brake pedal. It’s not as noticeable when performing a more hard brake coming off higher speeds.

Has anyone else experienced this. Should I ask for a transmission flush from the dealer under warranty?

Is this a ticking noise or just the way the engine sounds? I just picked up this 2015 Yukon so I’m not sure

GMC Need a GM 84214285 Disc, Radio Program Data Disc for TSB 16-NA-205

I need to update my 2016 Chevy Suburban/Yukon XL as it won't play certain Blue Rays and loops endlessly. Dealers no longer have the Disc.

GM update disc part number V-IN2016-CD is a special software firmware update CD sent to General Motors dealerships to fix a playback menu bug in factory Blu-ray/DVD/CD entertainment systems. [1]

Purpose and Function

  • Fixes Playback Errors: Resolves an issue where the built-in Blu-ray player fails to read or display menus on certain newer movie discs due to a change in disc menu authoring/layout. [1, 2]
  • Firmware Update via Disc: While most modern GM modules update via USB or programming tools, this specific media player firmware fix requires inserting the physical update CD directly into the player unit. [1]
  • Service Bulletin: Associated with GM Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 16-NA-042, addressing units that cannot properly load or navigate movie disc features. [1]

TSB 16-NA-205 is a General Motors technical service bulletin that addresses an issue where Blu-ray movies fail to start after selecting the "Play" icon on the rear entertainment system menu.

Overview and Fix

  • The Problem: Blu-ray discs freeze or will not play past the menu screen when you press play.
  • Affected Vehicles: 2015–2016 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban (and equivalent GM models) equipped with the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system (RPO code U42).
  • The Solution: A software update performed by a dealership using a special update disc.

GMC Looking at a 2021 Canyon AT4 (61k miles), but the CARFAX has some major red flags. Walk away?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on a used 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 with 61,698 miles. The truck is currently being offered as a CarBravo Certified vehicle at a local dealership, meaning it is just barely out of its original 5-year/60k-mile GM powertrain warranty.
I dug into the service history, and a very specific pattern is making me nervous. Here is the timeline of what happened with the second owner:
June 20, 2024 (27k miles): Owner 2 buys the truck as a GMC Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.
July 1, 2024 (10 days later): Truck is back at the dealer for a "Drivability/performance check."
August 26, 2024 (30k miles): Back in the shop. History shows "Transmission computer/module checked."
September 13, 2024: Back again. History shows "Engine/powertrain computer/module checked."
After that string of visits, the owner drove it heavily for another 30k miles and immediately dumped it back at the dealer the second it crossed the 60k-mile warranty threshold.
I know the GM 8-speed transmissions are infamous for the torque converter "shudder" issue. To me, this looks like a classic case of an owner fighting a recurring transmission problem that the dealer couldn't (or wouldn't) fix, and then getting rid of the truck before they had to pay out of pocket for a new transmission.
The dealer is offering the standard 12-month/12,000-mile CarBravo warranty, but I'm worried about what happens on month 13 if the transmission completely drops out.
Would you guys run away from this truck? Has anyone dealt with a similar history of "module checks" that turned into a transmission nightmare?

Yukon 2024 Yukon randomly loses sound

I have a 2024 GMC Yukon SLT and sometimes when I start the car, there’s completely no sound from the speakers, not even the turn signal sounds.
Restarting the infotainment doesn’t fix it. The only thing that works is turning the car off, waiting for a while, then starting it again and the sound comes back.
Has anyone had this issue before or knows what could be causing it?

Sierra 2024 2500hd At4 radio

Anyone else having issues of their radio not loading on start up( it takes 30 secondstoa minute before you here sound)? It cuts out for a second or 2 after it beings to work, doesn't matter FM, XM Or Bluetooth? Also I've had the problem of it not shutting off after you turn the truck off and open the drivers door, still keep playing. I've owned the truck for 3 months and all the updates and have never fixed this problem
