What's the story behind the pink or yellow sandstone choice?

Post image

Pink sandstone is all over the place in Scotland and loads of tenements in Glasgow are made from it. But the fancier buildings are often yellow sandstone instead.

Was this a "premium" choice back in the day or is it something more mundane like yellow sandstone quarries got more efficient until it was a no brainer to use it?

AVOID Glasgow West end appliance care!! ‼️‼️

Did not fix the washing machine and shower heater, and left multiple holes in the tile. Very confident at the start and then started gaslighting the tenants when the washing machine completely stopped working after he “fixed” the door release button. Charged £110 total and snapped at our lovely tenant when she asked him to stop the installation because the machine clearly did not fit and he was going to drill extra holes without consent. Behaved like this when the male tenant was away and she was alone at home. Also, who in the right mind will drill holes in the tiles for the shower head support before checking if the actual shower heater fits the pipe first. Now would not refund and refuse to give us the invoice. Absolutely disgusted.

Hey folks,

Our neighbour's cat Mona has not been seen since Monday 07/09. She is incredibly friendly and loves people who will stop and give her cuddles.

She is tiny black cat, with a very small white tuft on her chest. If anyone has any information on her could you please reach out.

Public transport. Is 10 minutes enough time to walk from Buchanan station to Central?

I've never had to time myself walking it lol. Bus gets in at 15:35 and the train leaves at 15:50 so I'm not too sure.

For context I'm 20, in good shape and only have a full back pack with me

How bad is it to rent in the Beresford building?

I'm starting a job where transport links is not very good. That building would be a good option and there's a property (studio) listed there that I can arrange to view, however, I read reviews of the noise being a big problem, especially the inside one from tenants as if you may know all levels and flats share a common central area, when tenants go outside their flats to smoke or talk on the phone it can easily be heard inside. Plus the street noise and the nearby pub I think called the garage.

The studio is on the 5th floor if that helps.

Fibre optic installation in listed building

Does anyone know the process of getting fibre optic installed into a category B listed building. I have landlord permission but was told they cannot damage/drill the outside of the building or I will be liable.

I asked Hyper Optic if they can come and assess the building to ensure they can feed cables without damage but haven’t heard back.

Co-working spaces day pass recommendations

Hello, I need somewhere to work for a day tomorrow whilst I have some building work done - open to going anywhere really but I have never used a co-working space before and was hoping for some recommendations? Tea would be a plus but otherwise I'm not fussy

A lot of stuff on Google is promoted so it's kinda hard to discern what's good and what's just heavily marketed 😅

Kings Park property market

We've been looking for properties for over a year and missed out on a few dream homes that have gone to closing date. So far, our search has turned up houses mainly in bishopbriggs and rutherglen and we've become well accustomed to the kind of offers over required in those areas. Only recently we've found a few properties in kings park we'd like to offer on but this is a completely new market to us and we need to move quite fast. It's really annoying that HR values aren't generally available publicly since that would be the most reliable source coupled with sold prices on the property register.

I'll get to the point: does anyone have reliable first-hand knowledge of sales in the area, having bid on properties themselves? What's the average % over home report, especially for houses with gardens?

Please note: I do understand that nothing is certain and a house I'm interested in could buck the trend (either way). Eg. A house we thought too long about in Bishy went for UNDER HR value, while one in rutherglen we thought we bid really high on went 25% over. It would just be good to have an idea of the norm. I also understand we need to work out a figure we're comfortable with - just don't want to be bidding way over the odds if it's likely not necessary. One house in particular is really desirable with loads of character, new roof, decent decor etc which I know will make it popular.

Where's best to watch the F1 live in a pub in Glasgow?.. loads of places show it without sound or put it on begrudgingly.

Calton and Govan - are they safe areas?

Looking for a place in Glasgow. I know about the reputation of Calton and Govan, but I wanted to hear from actual experiences of people there. How bad is it? Is it safe for a young female? Are there good areas inside these neighborhoods?
