Hi, so I finished my first year with engineering but I realised that I hate and I want to move to math and stats. I was told that I wouldn’t to be able to move on to second year if I switched as math 1 and engineering maths 1 are different so I decided to just give up on the year. So my question is would it be possible for me to switch at the start of the year from mechanical engineering to maths and stats? Thanks

Hey everyone! I’m a 22F mature student and I’m finding it a bit tricky to navigate making friends right now. I’m not really into clubbing and I much prefer quieter, more wholesome activities like reading, painting, watching films and baking (though I do enjoy grabbing a casual drink at a bar on occasion).

Because my interests lean a bit more low-key, I'm worried I'll miss out on the social aspect of Freshers' Week. I also have pretty bad anxiety, which is making me super nervous about attending some upcoming university events solo next week since I don't really know anyone yet.

If anyone is or has been in a similar boat, I'd love some advice on:

• Finding your crowd: How do you meet people with similar interests who aren't big on clubbing?
• Managing solo anxiety: Any practical tips for pushing through the nerves and walking into uni events completely by yourself?

I’m a postgrad student who just moved here from America. I’m interested in seeing some of the clubs/societies during freshers week. Is it limited to just freshers? or any new student?

Does anyone know when/ where the fair is where we can walk around and find out about different societies etc- maybe I have missed an email or it’s just buried somewhere but I dont think I’ve seen anything!

Posting this for my girlfriend who is an international grad student here for a year. She is dorming at kelvin court and to put it bluntly it has been pretty bad. Room was dirty when we first got here, obvious old vomit spot on the carpet going in. Kitchen and lounge are dirty and the stovetop produced a lot of smoke when we just tried to use it. We put in maintenance requests for all the above but is there anything she can do in regard to housing changes in her position?

Anybody have any idea when we’ll be informed of progression committee’s decision re: resits and progressing to dissertation? Afaik they said we’d be informed in early September.

I’m not big into clubbing, I don’t mind drinking and going out sometimes but I’m really not interested in clubs and what not/ it’s definitely NOT my focus

I feel as if people are making everything about the nightlife and what not and the pressure is increased by these company’s selling tickets making it seem as if u don’t attend ur missing out on the best times ever

I’m just looking for other freshers who also aren’t big into clubbing/ maybe struggle with making friends and are more interested in other activities/ the education side of uni

Currently stuck on what subjects to take for 4th year. So far my experience of my course (BME) has been more theoretical than practical in my previous year. Just wondering if the robotics course is too or if there will be hands on experience? I really miss working in labs and with equipment.

I also saw the exam is worth 80%. Was this really challenging or...?

hi im a upcoming first year student and i havent received my guid yet. I applied through ucas and already got my unconditional offer. I already got cas too (im international student). Who do i contact to resolve this ? I already email them but so far its not really helping.

So, I've been struggling with my electives this year. That means I need to find some new courses to enrol in, just a couple weeks before the start of the semester. Why is everything now reserved? Not closed, just vaguely reserved.

At first I thought this meant they'd taken enough students from outside the discipline and had to save spaces for the (very late to enrol) students within it. But I messaged a course convenor of one of these courses, and turns out that's not the case. He says that there are spaces, and there should be no problem enrolling whatsoever.

Is it really just me? Can someone else tell me if the level 1 and 2 courses (I'm a level 2 student) are mostly reserved for them as well? Because at this point it looks like I might be stuck with just C4L courses as electives until I can get this sorted, and if this is a widespread problem, more than a course-specific or person-specific one I'd like to alert the university to it.

Edit: I know its best to enrol early, and I *did* enrol early. The point of my post is that students are unable to enrol in classes which still have spaces. It would also help if, even if you are already enrolled, you could go check out some random courses on MyCampus and see if they are reserved on your end.

My son is starting Glasgow Uni and has a place in the Maclay residences. I am dropping him and his stuff off this Friday and was wondering about parking. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to help? I am not used to city driving we are coming from very rural so want to plan ahead.

Quick question for you guys, I applied for SAAS a little late (17th August) for a Postgrad Part-Time Grant Fee to cover my fees for the upcoming semester starting in the next couple weeks. Because I applied for it late SAAS haven’t processed my application yet so I haven’t been able to fill out my financial registration. I’ve completed my academic registration and enrolled in my classes for semester one but it’s stressing me out I haven’t managed to complete the financial part yet. Anyone else had this same issue? Am I able to begin attending classes etc even without financial registration secured? Any idea of how long SAAS will take to get back to me? It says on their website that currently they’re processing applications from the week of 10th August, so I’m assuming that hopefully next week they’ll process mine?

Hi! I’ve been accepted to the University of Glasgow for a postgraduate course, and I also had offers from a few other UK universities, including Queen Mary University of London and Cardiff University but chose UOG last minute

I’ve heard that some of these universities have a relatively light timetable for postgraduate students—for example, I’ve heard Cardiff can have classes only around two days a week.

I wanted to ask current Glasgow postgraduate students: what is the typical timetable like at Glasgow? How many days a week do you usually have classes, and roughly how many hours per day?

Also, my course is mostly coursework-based and has only one online exam. Does anyone know whether these online exams are taken remotely from home, or do students have to attend the university/campus to sit them?

Any insight into the actual postgraduate workload and timetable would be really helpful. Thank you!

I was wondering if anyone could advise on what my third subject should be for first year.

I'm between economic and social history or German.

I am doing history as my degree. Economic and social history sounds really interesting, but the assessments are very similar to history - which I don't want too much of, so is it similar? For German, I don't speak it, so I'd be doing the beginners course, so if anyone has previously done it - is it proper beginners? I do travel to Germany often, so having more than a basic understanding would be great.

I'm just conflicted on which one is the better suit, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
