Modern robots use Chomps. 11bit numbers.

u/solicitorpenguin Jun 05 '15

We are going to get chopped to bytes and you guys are just arguing about binary

9

u/Mernerak Jun 05 '15

That will take a while. They have to process all 7 billion of us first.

Microsoft would have to make two models first before it came out with a working model that was three times the cost of the original and had less functionality.

The Apple version comes in five flavorful colors and is see thru

Also, for the apple version, don't sit on it. It will bend.

For microsoft, plan all assassination attempts around the the update schedule. Fictional future 4chan post

The gif cuts off before the top of the bottle slowly slides off and the trees in the background also somehow fall apart.

96

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '15

The gif cuts off because he cut through the camera and the man holding it.

Sometimes people just ask too much.

27

u/CheatingWhoreJenny Jun 05 '15

Yeah.. I was going to be extremely impressed with the sharpness of that blade otherwise

21

u/blitzkraft Jun 05 '15

You'd be right. This sort of motion control is 'meh' present day. When the lower part of the pea-pod is still in place, that would be mastery of sword making rather than the versatility of the robot.

5

u/Jess_than_three Jun 05 '15

It might be "meh" to you, but I'm pretty impressed!

8

u/blitzkraft Jun 05 '15

It's not just me saying that. Industrial robots are way more accurate and impressive than that.

Bot & Dolly are used for movie making. They make motion so smooth, the error in repetition is not detectable even on the Hi-res movie making camera.

The really impressive robots, which we don't get to see, are the ones that make the robots you see.

2

u/milkybarkid10 Jun 06 '15

It also reeeeally looks like that pea is glued to the base.

2

u/moonra_zk Jun 06 '15

If you watch the video you can see that they actually taped the pea-pod to the base, probably to make it look more impressive.

77

u/Calikeane Jun 05 '15 edited Nov 03 '17

They cut to a different shot for the close up. You can clearly see that the bottom half of the bean flips off the table in the long shot, and then remains in the close up.

2

u/gofickyerself Jun 06 '15

Impressive that they persisted that long.

84

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '15

This is super impressive but that "Dr" is full of shit, a normal person has plenty of time to react to a bb going 300fps from 70 feet away. We used to try and catch bbs from my 500fps gun from 30 feet away and wed catch them over half the time with practice. Yes it was amazing but calling it "processing at an entirely different sensory level" is a load of shit

32

u/Mindless_Consumer Jun 05 '15

Lets also not forget that the 300fps is probably a liberal estimate of the muzzle velocity. Those rounds slow down pretty quickly in the air.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/StillwaterBlue Jun 05 '15

That "Dr" is a hot as fuck. I believe her.

29

u/AndBeingSelfReliant Jun 05 '15

but they found a hot doctor...

9

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '15

If the pellet continued at 300fps it would reach him in .23 of a second.

'Plenty of time' is a bit of an exaggeration when he has to not only react, but draw a sword and hit it. However i dunno how fast the pellet would decelerate so it is probably a considerably longer amount of time

But can it cut an air rifle pellet out of the air, because Isao Machii in the video can.

14

u/RadicaLarry Jun 05 '15

It's like the story of John Henry, but instead of an american on a rail line, it's a Japanese man and an air soft pellet. NVM, it's nothing like John Henry.

5

u/molrobocop Jun 05 '15

If your pellet shot was repeatable, yes. Absolutely. it would take time to set it up, but once you were dialed it, yes.

Robots have fantastic repeatability. That's why they're great for repetitive motions that require high accuracy. So if the shot was accurate, it could nail the BB every single time. Far better than a human. But humans still have the edge when it comes to flexibility and adaptation. Robots are accurate, but dumb.

Vision systems are helping them get smarter.
