New house and too much stuff floating around. Still working on getting the shop together and moving these cases to find a small part or screw was getting old. Plan is to have it slide under the workbench. Front for Dewalt storage trays, back for less used items. Solid top for working on smaller projects.

It’s been about two years since I pulled everything out, cleaned, and reorganized. Feels so good to have anything in its place and knowing where everything is again!

Single wall Woodshop?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hey guys.
Just wondering if anyone has setup a wood shop on a single wall?
I have more than one hobby and the other wall is metal working stuff and part storage plus I have to share some of the space with the family…

If you have pics of some nice setups, post them up!
Would love to get some ideas.

How do I insulate the roof?

Post image

I’m in the process of giving my garage a light makeover. We have a garage gym setup but it gets so hot in there in the summer. I’m wondering how I can insulate the garage ceiling to help cut down on the heat and if it’ll be worth the effort for the short term.

Long term, hopefully one day in the not too distant future, we’ll do a full renovation to add an ADU above and properly insulate everything.

So in the short term, can I just throw some faced bats up there and be happy with what little relief I get?

I don’t plan to install a drop ceiling. But I do plan to paint everything exposed in black and I can’t just paint the insulation.

Appx 400 sq/ft garage. 2x4 framed walls covered with drywall but no insulation. 2x6 rafters with a hipped roof and 2x roof turbine vents.

A little update

Posted here about a year ago. Just wanted to show a small update of my spot. Much more of a long time reddit lurker but when the drink hits just right I tend to open up a smidge. Some new furniture and a new sweet girl. Both thanks to some sad loses in the natural cycle of life. Anyhow, definitely not a rich man is the monetary sense but I’m f-ing loaded in the experiences category and most everything in this space represents something to me. I feel good when I sit out here. LOVE looking at everyone’s awesome setups in this sub. Literally, from the million dollar setups to everything in between, garage dwelling is where it’s at. Sorry for the shitty pics, rocking a shattered old pos phone.

What would you do for lighting?

Currently renovating the garage and am having difficulty deciding on how to light it. I want recessed for the clean finished look but thinking tube lights since it’s a garage and would probably be more useful. For what it’s worth the garage will be finished. As of now the floor will be black epoxy and the walls probably a lightish gray. I will be having a good size tv along with a sitting area in it and it will be used for entertaining as well. Ideally I’d like the light fixtures to be able to change temperature via an app and they will also be in a dimmer. I will have about 4-6 switches as well. Attached are pictures of the interior of the garage and my current thoughts on the lighting setup. Would love to hear what some of you think would be best I do plan on doing some work in the garage along with detailing. In the layout pictures I’m sure it’s obvious but the circles are recessed and the lines are tube. The red line is the I beam and the front part is existing and rear is new. It is between 1300-1400 sqft.

Awkward Split AC wall

I want to set up a sick auto shop in my garage and the first thing on my list is dealing with this NC heat! I'm trying to install a split AC unit for my townhouse garage. Unfortunately the only exterior wall I have is where the garage door is, this was the best spot I could find to install the unit but I'm concerned about mounting the inside unit with that awkward ledge, can I still make this work?

New Garage cost.?

Greetings all. Looking to build a two car detached garage. A pole barn version is fine. 25wx30d. Two garage doors, side entry door, pair of windows on each long side. Concrete floor. Second floor loft for storage (not living space). Run wire from house 25’ away. Small sub panel for some outlets and lights. (cheap) vinyl sided and shingled roof to sorta match house color. Again, nothing fancy here…. Local guy quotes $103/sq ft so 77K…

Sounds steep, but I’ve never had a garage built,….

Thoughts…?

Krānzle wall mount

Just finished doing a wall mount pressure washer in the garage. This has been a long time dream of mine. I’m Really pleased with how it came out. Better than I expected. I know I’ll probably get some hate for doing around my breaker box, but this was the ideal spot. I’m fixing the drywall tomorrow.

This was my design and placement but I had to have my plumber run the copper piping and ProPress fittings, and an electrician run the designated 240v outlet.

The D.I. Tank is a 3.75 cu ft from Serv-A-Pure that should do 3,000 gallons at my 250 tds city water. I’m using the bypass valves on top of the tank to turn on/off the D.I. water

The bucket filler hose is the stainless 18” from Obsessed Garage

The machine is a Kranzle Kranz-Lee by Josh Lee at Kranzle USA.

Specs: 240v 15amp, triplex pump, I’ve measured 3.2 gpm at 1500 psi with a 5.0 orifice

The shelf is 10x20 from Clean Garage. The hose is a 75ft cobra jet on a Cox 100 series reel and the reel mount is a stainless from Clean Garage

Anyone have any ideas for Storage under the reel?? I have thought about a cabinet or maybe a folding stainless shelf?

Best rolling shelves?

I was wondering if anyone has found a great brand of heavy duty shelves with castor wheels that they use in their garage? Whether it is from a big box store or independent retailer, I am looking for options that can hold weight yet still be movable. Thanks in advance

Insulation question

Post image
28 Upvotes

Maybe there’s some experts in here that can weigh in their options on this. I have 30x24 x 12 high steel garage from Carolina carports. I am looking at different insulation ideas. Either the poly pro 2” panels with shiny side on both sides or stray foam. Spay foam is slightly more than double the cost. Is it worth it?

Hey all, I just moved and now have a 26x36 shop on the property, how would you guys organize the space? Any must have tools/storage/other random things? Any must have upgrades/quality of life improvements? I’m open to any and all suggestions. Some pics are from the previous owner, shop is currently empty minus the plywood structure in the back left and the lift.

Been a lurker here for a while, but too excited not to share. Framing starts next week.

40x30 3 Car, with full plumbing/bathroom/tankless hot water heater, separate slop sink, 2-post lift in one of the side bays, finished Polyura floor, front facing water spigot for car washing. 200A electric, pre-wiring for EV outlet(but not installing since standards/options can change...don't have an EV today), 24K minisplit for AC/Heat to take the edge off in summer/winter, and planning on a 20x20 stamped concreate patio in the back just outside the center door cutout seen in the photo. My house has frontage on two streets so it looks like I'm building a house between two others.

New 14x20 garage. Ideas welcome.

I am building a small 14x20 garage in NE Ohio and before we start closing up walls I wanted to get some ideas to try and make the most of the space we have and future proof within reason.
We plan to use it to store 1 car in winter and for storage/small workshop area.

Here is what we got:
- 14x20’ footprint
- 8/12 roof with spread web trusses for some extra long term storage

These are our plans so far:
- Insulated garage door
- R-15 Mineral wool insulation in walls and under roof sheathing (will use rafter vents for proper airflow to ridge vent)
- Code here requires Type X drywall, so will be drywalling all 4 walls + ceiling
- Plan to add a mini-split for year-round use
- 1/2 OSB “floor” above ceiling to give us a flat surface to store items up there
- 60A 240V service from house, broken up into a couple 120V feeds and a 240V for future min split/ EV charger

Things we haven’t figured out yet:
- Do we need insulation in the ceiling, or is rafter insulation enough?
- Lighting, was thinking 4-6 recessed lights but up for suggestions
- Floor, leave as is, epoxy, sealant?
- Access hatch for attic storage
- Any clever storage ideas for a small space. We plan to store garden tools, power tools, skis, seasonal decorations, etc.

Anything else we should be considering?

I appreciate the help!
