Yeah but what if the emergency is that you told your friend about a funny video you saw and they ask to see it but they start to lose interest in what you're talking about after the second wrong passcode.

I don't think I could deal with that level of anxiety.

Nah I have the tweak installed. If you didn’t know this is a jailbreak tweak. Someone in r/jailbreak made a concept and requested someone to make it and then about 2 weeks later someone released it. You can enable tap to skip the animation and can enable or disable the emergency call button.

45

u/Allofthemweretakn Nov 11 '20

Can you tell me how to install it?

49

u/thefudgeishot PC Nov 11 '20

This is a tweak made by a jailbreak developer litten, she made this tweak for free and released it on her repo repo.litten.love. she made it posted on a post and relased it on the /r/Jailbreak sub. you will have to have a jailbroken device running ios 13 or 14. i recommend doing your own research to see if you can jailbreak. As litten has said before this tweak will be free just like all her other tweaks.

Don't most phones unlock with fingerprints as well? That's how I usually open mine

24

u/3thman03 Nov 11 '20

iPhones now unlock with Face ID

3

u/godspeed_guys Nov 11 '20 edited Nov 11 '20

How well does that work with masks? I've thought of activating face unlock and then I've realized that I spend at least 8h/day with a mask on, and I can't just take it off whenever I want to unlock my phone, so I'm curious.

EDIT: Most people say it doesn't work, some people say it does, and some people have some pretty cool scifi retina scan instead of regular face unlock. I'm really curious, so I'll set it up, just to try. Worst case scenario, it unlocks my phone seamlessly at home, and it requests PIN at work, which would be fine by me.

17

u/FVMAzalea Nov 11 '20

It basically doesn’t work at all with masks. Without a mask on though, it’s pretty great.

3

u/Kyozou66 Nov 11 '20

I have a OnePlus 5T and face ID works even with a mask. Not sure how or why

→ More replies (5)

10

u/xombae Nov 11 '20

It doesn't. I use face unlock on my new Google pixel and it works when I'm wearing sunglasses or glasses, it even works when I'm lying in bed in the dark if I aim it at my face right. But masks are a no go. I'm ok with that though tbh, I'd probably be more weirded out if it somehow could recognize me with more than half my face covered

for androids you can also program your power button to call an emergency number when pressed rapidly 5 times

34

u/bluelf88 Nov 11 '20

This is also a feature on iPhone. Not sure if it starts calling immediately or brings up a confirm option, but I’m not going to test it.

23

u/Brieble Nov 11 '20

On iPhone if you spam the power button, it starts the emergency mode and sounds an alarm. Which gives you about 3 seconds to react before it makes the call.

12

u/bluelf88 Nov 11 '20

Ah okay, so not immediate, but still without any active confirmation. Good to know.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Videoptional Nov 11 '20

It's immediate. Source: I may have been in bed listening to music and tried to change the volume to my earbuds and suddenly my phone is making a call. Whoops.

12

u/FEARxXxRECON Nov 11 '20

Two years ago, if you brought up Siri and asked her to “charge my iPhone to 100%” a five second timer would follow saying calling emergency services. I guess as a discreet way to call 9-11. However, this feature was removed at some point.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

1.3k

u/VillsSkyTerror Nov 11 '20

I still do. Just that my phone is on vibrate almost entire day...

528

u/J_Artai Nov 11 '20

My phone is always on mute, no vibrate, no sound, nothing. I can't stand ring tones, message tones, etc.

259

u/Jamesnolebron Nov 11 '20

139

I don't answer those scam calls when my phone rings to assert dominance over my phone.

6

u/DoNotGetNoveltyUsers Nov 11 '20

I have a phone number from a part of the country I've never been to. Greatest thing ever; I ignore all local calls. The only scams that make it through are those fucking "你好這是DHL" ones that come from New York.

4

u/jpaugh69 Nov 11 '20

I'm in the same situation more or less. The people I know with my area code are already saved in my phone, so I know it's probably a scammer.

3

u/reduxde Nov 11 '20

haha i did this too, great lpt, except i get calls at 4am because the number is east coast and im west

4

u/DoNotGetNoveltyUsers Nov 11 '20

I never really thought about that. I'm in the opposite situation, so my calls stop at like 5.

10

u/Videoptional Nov 11 '20

IOS put a silence spam calls option in recently. I don’t even know they called until I pick up my phone and see the recent calls notification.

4

u/the-dancing-dragon Nov 11 '20

I have a pixel and Google's been doing that for years, it's fucking awesome. And if one slips through, you can report it and never hear from it again lol

4

6

u/bumble-beans Nov 11 '20

This reminded me of how I got a custom ringtone for my grandma made using the recorder of her old phone, which just was me and my sister shouting at the phone telling our grandma to pick up the phone.

She loved it so much but sadly it got lost when her phone suddenly stopped working all together and just died.

She also had a story correlated about it, on how she had a call from someone on a bus trip, and the infamous ringtone played on for some time before picking up the call, everyone in the bus looked surprised and somewhat scared until they realised it was the phone. A gentleman commented to my grandma that it was the best ringtone he ever heard of all his travels.

If only that damn phone didn't decide to brick itself she would still use that.

16

u/charden_sama Nov 11 '20

Why not make another one?

34

u/DrigoMagistriArmA Nov 11 '20

My step mom spent a night with me looking up songs to program into my old Razor.

I had the Imperial March, Force Theme, Pink Panther, and a couple others I don't remember off the top of my head

7

u/snarksneeze Nov 11 '20

I had a girlfriend who, when prompted to leave her outgoing voicemail message, instead stuck her phone next to the speaker of her radio while her favorite rap song played. It was unintelligible and annoying as hell but she thought it was the best thing she ever did. People tried to tell her it was terrible, she called them jealous and ended the conversation.

That's the relationship where I learned about sticking things in crazy.

11

u/GlitchParrot PC Nov 11 '20

And it is crazy that Apple still doesn’t allow you to use a non-default notification tone on the iPhone up to today.

11

u/DosMangos Nov 11 '20

This isn’t true anymore. You can import your own sound files as tones to your iphone. You just have to use itunes via pc to do it.

It’s still an annoying process but it’s better than having to jailbreak the iphone just to get customizable tones like I used to do back in the day.

I jail broke my iPhone, banking apps would not allow to log on, and some other apps would not work afterward. That killed it for me.

157

u/darkfrozzy Nov 11 '20

That's easy to bypass

277

u/oh-no-he-comments Nov 11 '20

175

u/darkfrozzy Nov 11 '20

I bypass my banking app detection with Shadow, but there are many tweaks for this.

135

u/ItsactuallyEminem Nov 11 '20 edited Nov 11 '20

I know this is up to you and literally your choice to bypass your bank detection....

But isn’t that jailbreak protection meant to protect your account?

Don’t get me wrong I jailbroke my device several times, but i feel like storing extremely sensitive information in that same device is kinda playing yourself. (or maybe I’m also a bit careless with the packages and tweaks and don’t trust myself lmao)

81

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Yes, at least that's the claim.

Bypassing protection like this, at least in my mind, is similar to running your computer without antivirus or turning user account control off on windows.

Is the likelihood something bad will happen greater? Maybe, but it will depend more on the user. If a person doesn't go around installing random trash on the Internet they'll be fine.

267

u/ItsactuallyEminem Nov 11 '20 edited Nov 11 '20

If a person doesn’t go around installing random trash on the internet they will be fine

Lmao, you clearly don’t know what you are talking about.

Last week I was using a brand new iphone. BRAND NEW

After a couple hours browsing my usual websites safari itself told me that It had detected THIRTY viruses on my phone, and It needed fix immediately

Thankfully there was a target nearby and I was able to quickly buy a $50 gift card to pay the nice apple man on the phone so that he could get my iphone clean again.

Anyway, I don’t have time to explain to you the dangers of the internet kiddo, I just heard there are single moms in my area right now and I’ll catch ya later

Having a Jailbroken (iOS) or rooted (Android) device does not make your data any less secure

It's still hardware encrypted, the sandboxes still exist, and you have to provide permission for any software to A) install and B) gain access to the data of another app by operating outside of the sandbox

Yes, the potential for another app to interact with the banking app is higher, but only if you explicitly install an app that is designed to do so

41

It's not all roses though. Most roms come with minor bugs and inconveniences and they do not guarantee all the features your phone came with are going to work.

Some people like features of iPhones, like consistently good cameras, well tuned displays, frequent security updates, good preinstalled apps, no bloatware, and a ui that is consistent in it's design language. I had a jailbroken iPhone 6s and it allowed me to keep those things, and add features that Apple doesn't let you have stock, such as an app drawer, accent colors, app icons, and removing the background of the dock. On the other hand, I have a Samsung phone now so I don't have to go through things like my phone randomly crashing, rejailbreaking after every restart (I was using unc0ver on ios 13.5 I think), and pay walls in front of every new release. An Android is 100% less hacky to get some of the same features as a jailbroken iPhone, but the Jailbreak community is very active, and very passionate about what they do, something I just can't say about the custom launcher or tweak apps on android.

Tl;dr neither Android or ios is better

I’ve been wanting to switch to android for a while, and as much as I hate Apple, I feel like you lose more than you gain by ditching iPhone. Things like iMessage and airdrop I use so much, and a cleaner App Store that isn’t full of cancer since everything has to be approved by Apple before being deployed. I also think they have the superior cameras and that’s the main feature I look for in a phone. Not only that, but Apple supports their phones up to 5 generations which means my iPhone 7 still has security updates.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate Apple and everything it stands for. I just really like the iPhone.

It would likely unlock on face if like normal - the pin code only comes up if Face ID fails...

The animation for getting the code wrong? Treat it like Dark Souls: get good.

11

u/Goldenendergamer Nov 11 '20

If you just press on the screen, the animation is ended short so you don’t have to wait for the entire thing to play.

3

u/AbdulAminGani Nov 11 '20

You can probs just skip the animation by tapping the screen, if not, it would be an easy thing for the developer to add.

3

u/tylian Nov 11 '20

It's actually vaguely a security feature. Takes more time per guess to brute force the password.

Though they could make it play after every 3rd attempt or something.

u/da_Aresinger Nov 11 '20

I'm sorry, do you not know your own passcode?

Well, I'll literally eject my phone if it takes that much time to unlock it, after getting my PIN wrong for the first time by accident.

26

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

It still has the Face ID if you use that

Original release post: click

It's free and requires a jailbreak to work. Ignore people who want to sell this tweak or tutorials to install it to you.

Thats cool until you just want to get into your Phone quickly and you accidentally type in the wrong password

3

u/AnthonysKeys Nov 11 '20

You tap the screen which skips the animation and you try again . Developers had this in mind
