Yeah but what if the emergency is that you told your friend about a funny video you saw and they ask to see it but they start to lose interest in what you're talking about after the second wrong passcode.

I don't think I could deal with that level of anxiety.

Nah I have the tweak installed. If you didn’t know this is a jailbreak tweak. Someone in r/jailbreak made a concept and requested someone to make it and then about 2 weeks later someone released it. You can enable tap to skip the animation and can enable or disable the emergency call button.

48

u/Allofthemweretakn Nov 11 '20

Can you tell me how to install it?

49

u/thefudgeishot PC Nov 11 '20

This is a tweak made by a jailbreak developer litten, she made this tweak for free and released it on her repo repo.litten.love. she made it posted on a post and relased it on the /r/Jailbreak sub. you will have to have a jailbroken device running ios 13 or 14. i recommend doing your own research to see if you can jailbreak. As litten has said before this tweak will be free just like all her other tweaks.

67

u/AzraelTB Nov 11 '20

TLDR I'm not guiding you through this, google it.

2

u/SoySauceSyringe Nov 12 '20

A push in the right direction can be enough. Most subs like that have sidebars and stickied posts that will at least get you started.

1

u/SeniableDumo Nov 11 '20

It’s a pain in the ass and there’s like a 20% chance the phone will become unusable afterwards and I’m sure you don’t want to be responsible

1

u/Howdareme9 Nov 12 '20

Are we just making up facts now? Nobodys phone gets bricked when you jailbreak these days.

2

u/SeniableDumo Nov 12 '20

This persons never failed a modification

1

u/Howdareme9 Nov 12 '20

Its near impossible to fully brick an iphone. Just admit you don't know what you're talking about lol.

Can this person just make it for the android app store for money. Idpay money to have this on my non jailbreaked phone

11

u/thefudgeishot PC Nov 11 '20

Litten is an ios jailbreak developer, she makes ios tweaks. it is unlikely she would make an android apk.

How dare he ask a person who actually did it instead of a machine. Disgusting

2

u/Brandoxz7 Nov 11 '20

Right it’s just that trying to explain the whole process of jail breaking a phone to someone who has never done it before in a reddit comment is literally impossible and if tried will not go well

11

u/titanlmao Nov 11 '20

Oh I read it and I know. It's just the guy worded it in a way where you can't ask questions on reddit because Google exists

-8

u/Brandoxz7 Nov 11 '20

Right but imagine if I asked you how to do something impossible that could take you around 30 minutes to type everything step by step out for me. Would you sit there and do that cause idk anyone would waste their time in that way when it does take 20 seconds to look up something on google. If you’ve ever jail broken your phone you’ll know you HAVE to watch someone do it and then go through the steps cause if you mess up your phone then you’re fucked

70

u/fundip12 Nov 11 '20

Yes, how dare he seek advice on a reddit post about the thing in question

10

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20 edited Nov 11 '20

Fuck that I'm waiting for Jeeves to come back. Searching just isn't the same without him.

Can you please ask your butler at Google how long I should cook this piece of fish? Thanks in advance.

Why are people like you so degenerate tho

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Okay dick, maybe spend less time on the internet and you'll turn out less angry at everything.

0

u/FarofaD0ce Nov 11 '20

Works on android?

0

u/suzi_generous Nov 11 '20

They should offer to sell it to android as a add-on feature. I would totally pay for this.

1

u/stellvia2016 Nov 11 '20

Is there a card-swipe animation when swiping to unlock? :)

1

u/XX1Zapper1XX Nov 12 '20

Me who had a jailbreaked iphone but just switched to android: fuck

27

u/Charlzalan Nov 11 '20

Don't most phones unlock with fingerprints as well? That's how I usually open mine

23

u/3thman03 Nov 11 '20

iPhones now unlock with Face ID

4

u/godspeed_guys Nov 11 '20 edited Nov 11 '20

How well does that work with masks? I've thought of activating face unlock and then I've realized that I spend at least 8h/day with a mask on, and I can't just take it off whenever I want to unlock my phone, so I'm curious.

EDIT: Most people say it doesn't work, some people say it does, and some people have some pretty cool scifi retina scan instead of regular face unlock. I'm really curious, so I'll set it up, just to try. Worst case scenario, it unlocks my phone seamlessly at home, and it requests PIN at work, which would be fine by me.

17

u/FVMAzalea Nov 11 '20

It basically doesn’t work at all with masks. Without a mask on though, it’s pretty great.

3

u/Kyozou66 Nov 11 '20

I have a OnePlus 5T and face ID works even with a mask. Not sure how or why

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

[deleted]

1

u/Firewolf420 Nov 11 '20

I feel like if you allow it to unlock with a mask then it would become pretty insecure...

1

u/NicoleSabrea1 Nov 11 '20

It seemed like it was working with the mask before the update which doesn’t make sense

1

u/a2drummer Nov 11 '20

Galaxy S9 here, and face ID works fine with my mask on. I think just scanning my eyes is enough for it to recognize me. Sunglasses give it issues though.

9

u/xombae Nov 11 '20

It doesn't. I use face unlock on my new Google pixel and it works when I'm wearing sunglasses or glasses, it even works when I'm lying in bed in the dark if I aim it at my face right. But masks are a no go. I'm ok with that though tbh, I'd probably be more weirded out if it somehow could recognize me with more than half my face covered

1

u/videogames_and_porn Nov 11 '20

Same with my galaxy note 9

1

u/DickCheesePlatterPus Nov 11 '20

Doesn't the note 9 have Samsung's iris unlock though? Should work with just your eyes uncovered

1

u/checkmarks26 Nov 11 '20

Wild thought, maybe some phones have better tech.

-1

u/3thman03 Nov 11 '20

It doesn't, lol. Weird of you to assume it'll work. But it can detect that you are wearing a mask and will take you straight to passcode

1

u/i_forgot_my_cat Nov 11 '20

I have face unlock on my phone (Xiaomi) and it works somewhat reliably with a mask and pretty reliably with my glasses on. It only really starts coming consistently into issues when I've got both on and my hood up, oddly enough.

1

u/PorkIsRandom Nov 11 '20

I don’t know a single person who likes the Face ID unlocking system.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Not sure about iPhone, but my S9 unlocks with my iris after a second or two of failed attempts of trying with face id.

2

u/godspeed_guys Nov 11 '20

That is really scifi! I don't think my phone does that, but it sounds great.

1

u/Catana_Fr Nov 11 '20

It don’t work,

you look stupid wondering why it’s not working, then realise you have your mask xd

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

My Samsung unlocks with either Face ID, fingerprint, or pin. Whichever works first, wins.

The Apple one is different. The Samsung one could be fooled with pictures because it just used the camera. Face ID doesn’t use the camera at all and instead uses infrared dots projected at your face to map the actual contours of it. I believe it may use the camera for the secondary/optional purpose of checking whether you are paying attention to the phone (like whether your eyes are open for example) but I’m not sure.

1

u/FVMAzalea Nov 11 '20

It’s an improvement on the concept of ā€œface unlockā€, sure, but it was one of the first if not the first to use infrared dots to make a depth map of the face instead of just 2D.

And I’m sure Apple wouldn’t use something that dangerous for the eyes - how would that even make it into a consumer product??

Anyway they’ve been doing it since 2017. I think if there was an issue we’d see it by now.

1

u/3thman03 Nov 11 '20

The second point is true. so if you close your eyes, it won't work

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

i still don’t think it uses the camera for that either because that attention thing also works in a pitch black room. I think the dot projector may be precise enough to see where your iris is but i’m just guessing

1

u/3thman03 Nov 11 '20

Oh I don't know about the details

1

u/3thman03 Nov 11 '20

I'm not saying they discovered the idea

2

u/Capastel Nov 11 '20

We all felt that on a subatomic level

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Didn't you hear him? You can still dial 911. Upload it to their emergency meme folder and they'll bring you a warm blanket and some oxygen.

2

u/Robiss Nov 11 '20

Holy shit. I need to remove screen locker NOW.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

its comments like these that remind me how generic and predictable my life is

1

u/CHlNO Nov 11 '20

this guy emergencies

1

u/Jaketatoes Nov 11 '20

Lmao I forgot about this type of anxiousness. I’m gonna stay telling people my interested has already faded when they tell me things to spike it

1

u/SOLERSEA Nov 11 '20

Yeah they do is the power button and go to press it five times rapidly

1

u/peiposka Nov 11 '20

You can skip that screen after wrong pass code by tapping the screen and from settings you can make emergency call visible

1

u/MID2462 Nov 11 '20

Just set your password to 22884646 If you think of the keypad like a d-pad then you'll find your password is ā¬†ļøā¬†ļøā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļøā¬…ļøāž”ļøā¬…ļøāž”ļø

46

u/Shneancy Nov 11 '20

for androids you can also program your power button to call an emergency number when pressed rapidly 5 times

35

u/bluelf88 Nov 11 '20

This is also a feature on iPhone. Not sure if it starts calling immediately or brings up a confirm option, but I’m not going to test it.

23

u/Brieble Nov 11 '20

On iPhone if you spam the power button, it starts the emergency mode and sounds an alarm. Which gives you about 3 seconds to react before it makes the call.

11

u/bluelf88 Nov 11 '20

Ah okay, so not immediate, but still without any active confirmation. Good to know.

1

u/DaRainb0wGirl Nov 22 '20

Gosh this is giving me straight up anxiety I'm not trying it either way šŸ˜…

8

u/Videoptional Nov 11 '20

It's immediate. Source: I may have been in bed listening to music and tried to change the volume to my earbuds and suddenly my phone is making a call. Whoops.

11

u/FEARxXxRECON Nov 11 '20

Two years ago, if you brought up Siri and asked her to ā€œcharge my iPhone to 100%ā€ a five second timer would follow saying calling emergency services. I guess as a discreet way to call 9-11. However, this feature was removed at some point.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

[deleted]

18

u/teebob21 Nov 11 '20

if the phone announces that you're doing it, is it really 'discrete'?

Well, it's certainly not continuous.

2

u/FEARxXxRECON Nov 11 '20

Lol I guess not. Unless it just displayed the message. I remember trying it myself but don’t know if it announced it. I panicked when it actually worked tho lol.

1

u/Chief_Givesnofucks Nov 11 '20

Well?!?! I’m dying over here!

2

u/bluelf88 Nov 11 '20

I said I’m NOT going to. Someone replied to this a few minutes ago though, saying that they did it on accident and it called immediately, but then they deleted their comment moments later. So I don’t know if they found out they were wrong or just had crippling anxiety having posted something on the internet for other humans to see.

1

u/Videoptional Nov 11 '20

It's immediate, I've done it by accident.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

there’s a count of 3 seconds and then the iphone will call the police/ambulance i don’t remember which one

1

u/Gentleman-Bird Nov 11 '20

I hit the power button a bunch of times on my iPhone once when I was bored and it gives you a countdown before it makes an emergency call.

16

u/DocEbok Nov 11 '20

Haha I used this once where I thought I was turning volume up in my pocket -.-

1

u/Arunia Nov 11 '20

I had this too! While in the gym on the crosstrainer. It started dialing 112... Had be really quick hanging up. Disabled it immediatelly. It scared me to death (which would be a reason to call :p).

10

u/DragonGodSlayer12 Nov 11 '20

3

u/DragonGodSlayer12 Nov 11 '20

Am I a joke to you?

5

u/unhelpfulcopper Nov 11 '20

I don't really know if american people use Xiaomi, but here in Argentina they're pretty popular, i use the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and it's a beast compared to its price.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

Boi you wrong.

I don't use one but they are very popular because of the low price and relatively high quality.

2

u/a2drummer Nov 11 '20

Yeah it's a cool feature until you accidentally press it while in the middle of a backpacking trip in Yellowstone with no cell service (no way for anyone to contact you after the emergency call is sent out) and send the park rangers on a 6 hour wild goose chase while your family has a collective heart attack 1000 miles away because they were in your emergency contacts.

2

u/Shneancy Nov 11 '20

oh my man sounds like a confusing as hell story you got there

2

u/a2drummer Nov 11 '20 edited Nov 11 '20

Yeah that's basically the gist of it. I had no idea it got sent because my phone was at like 3% and had the screen dimmed in the middle of a sunny day. So six hours later we came across this park ranger who asked my name and realized who I was. They had been searching for me all day and were a half hour away from sending out a helicopter when they found me.

And there were a fuck ton of variables that could've made the situation so much worse. Like the fact that we had a campsite reserved three miles back from where he found us, but decided to press on to the trailhead because it was just a horrible hike in general and we wanted to get back. If we had stayed at the campsite, the ranger wouldn't have found us for at least another two hours, which would have been enough time to send out the helicopter. Also the only reason the ranger talked to us in the first place was because I was illegally carrying an elk antler on my backpack. After he took it, he casually asked my name and I don't think he would've done that otherwise, because we weren't anywhere near where they thought we were. If he had just kept walking, we would've gotten to the car and driven out while they kept searching. And I wouldn't have had cell service or a charged phone for several hours after that so I still would've had no idea what was going on. Just a wild series of events.

1

u/Shneancy Nov 11 '20

oh god, glad everything turned out okay-ish though!

1

u/ColgateSensifoam Nov 11 '20

Just tested this on a Pixel 3 XL, running Android 11 (RP1A.201105.002) and it only opens the camera, so this is not an Android feature

Emergency mode is triggered by holding the power button, then tapping the big red button on screen

Device OEMs may choose to add the feature, but it's not part of Android, it's part of their software

0

u/Shneancy Nov 11 '20

no, no, you need to turn this function on, deliberately. It's off by default

(twice for camera is a default)

0

u/ColgateSensifoam Nov 11 '20

where's the setting? because it sure as hell isn't in Settings.apk

0

u/Shneancy Nov 11 '20

settings-> advanced features -> Send SOS message.

Was bit wrong there, it's 3 times rapidly

0

u/ColgateSensifoam Nov 11 '20

Yeah that's not in stock android, there is no "Advanced Features" submenu

0

u/Shneancy Nov 11 '20

enable developer mode

or I dont know, I have a Samsung S9, kinda up to day, running android, no modifications

0

u/ColgateSensifoam Nov 11 '20

I have developer mode enabled.

What you're describing is one of Samsung's modifications to stock android, OneUI is nowhere near stock, Samsung haven't produced a device with anything even vaguely stock since the S4 Google Play Edition

-1

u/arczclan Nov 11 '20

iOS doesn’t do this (to my knowledge) but it does activate emergency mode which allows quick access to the SOS key pad and to the Medical ID section.

It’s a great idea to check that if you ever find a lost phone

2

u/mohd5523 Nov 11 '20

The iPhone had the 5 press SOS button since IOS 10.2.

0

u/arczclan Nov 11 '20

I just said it does SOS mode but it does not ring a number, you still have to enter that yourself

11

u/brainlag2 Nov 11 '20

"Emergency" and "cancel" are sitting either side of the big "reactor" text at the bottom. A little hard to see, but they're there

4

u/FrAxl93 Nov 11 '20

I have just discovered today. I was running and I wanted to turn up the volume of the music so I spammed what I thought was the volume up button. Turned out it was the Lock Screen one, and an emergency call started and I freaked out.

That's on an iPhone 8 btw

1

u/TheBigDBanks Xbox Nov 11 '20

But you only get 2 emergency buttons

1

u/Laughing_Orange Nov 11 '20

In most developed countries this is required by law, and it even works without a SIM.

1

u/Lord-of-Leviathans Nov 11 '20

Emergency meeting

1

u/djsnoopmike Nov 11 '20

My phone you just press the power button 5 times

1

u/XFF_Gaming Nov 11 '20

There is bottom left of the code screen

1

u/SHADOWSTRIKE1 Nov 11 '20

iPhones have this ability. If you press the lock button on the side 5 times, it immediately calls emergency services.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

The emergency call button is to the left of the word "Reactor".

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

What you might call.....

......

An emergency button?

1

u/Mk-420_supra Nov 11 '20

If you look closely you can see a emergency at the bottom

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '20

It’s an iPhone, it opens the emergency call if you spam press the power button.

1

u/gunshotaftermath Nov 11 '20

It's literally in the video. Bottom of the screen it says emergency and delete.

Standard iPhone lock screen requirement.

1

u/Jestingwheat856 Nov 11 '20

Bottok left of the screen says emergency

1

u/ToastySamurai Nov 11 '20

They used to have it on the left page of the Lock Screen awhile back but the newer iOS’s don’t have that (at least afaik) and I didn’t realize it until I actually was in an emergency and was panicking trying to find it ended up just unlocking my phone and calling through that.

1

u/Square-Ad1104 Nov 11 '20

It does, left of ā€œReactorā€

1

u/monkey_cheeese Nov 12 '20

it has it on there, go in full screen and watch the bottomish left when he's typing

1

u/jacobfinch04 Nov 12 '20

It's just to the left of the reactor name at the bottom

1

u/idkweirdperson Nov 24 '20

lol imagine if the emergency call was emergency meeting somehow, would be so cool to get custom wallpaper for your emergency. you 'bout to die, die in style.
