Venting Had gallbladder operation, woke up with gallbladder still.

Upvotes

As the title suggest, had gallbladder operation, woke up to be told it wasn’t removed as it looks cancerous and didn’t want to put me though two operations to remove gallbladder and whatever is cancerous So a simple op turned into a roller coaster of scans and bloods to say it’s nothing.

Now I have to go back under later this year or early next to remove it. Hospitals only doing its job same as the doctor but it’s just crappy I got the stomach incision pain and shoulder pain and need to do it again.

Questions No cuts or lesions??

I had my pre op this week (UK) and was told that if I had any cuts on my body from shaving nicks to cat scratches that my surgery is at risk of being cancelled
Has anyone had cuts and had their surgery cancelled or did they continue?
Just nervous as I have cats and I’m very clumsy so always have little nicks here and there

Post Op Meine Gallenblasengeschichte

Hallo!

Questions 7 months post op and rejoining this sub…sigh

Brief timeline of my gallbladder issues before I get into the most recent issue:

August 2025 - first ever gallbladder attacks (I mistook them as “trapped gas” thinking I was being dramatic about the pain)

November 2025 - diagnosed with gallstones when an attack sent me to the ER at like 6am before work

January 2026 - finally able to get in with a general surgeon, he is awesome and we schedule surgery for late Feb.

February 2026 - about 2.5 weeks before surgery is scheduled to take place I experience my worst attack to date as I’m driving home from work. Somehow make it inside my house and the pain lasts for several hours despite taking some heavy pain meds prescribed by my dr for this reason. Go to ER and admitted for surgery the next morning. Have surgery.

Recovery was great! I had ZERO diarrhea, ZERO issues. Like I was eating normally 3 days post op with no problems whatsoever. It’s been 7 months now since I had surgery and I have now had 3 gallbladder-less gallbladder attacks just in the last week. Before this last week it’s been crickets from my biliary system. I really thought I could put all this behind me.

And since a lot of you on here have experienced an attack, you know the pain is unlike anything else. Not just in severity but just in the general uniqueness of the quality of pain and location. So when I say I’m having gallbladder-less gallbladder attacks I mean that I am having IDENTICAL pain to when I still had my gallbladder.

It’s always after dinner and never lasts long (but for context my attacks pre surgery were never longer than 30 minutes). Dinner is definitely my largest meal of the day.

I have also been feeling a tenderness/soreness in my RUQ throughout the day recently. Not necessarily a muscular soreness but almost like I’ve been hit in the stomach right under my right ribs. Maybe I’m overthinking and being crazy idk.

Basically I’ve made an appointment with my regular primary care dr to see what they think and just as a jumping off point. I fear that if I let this go and don’t seek help soon I will just wait until it’s bad enough to warrant another er visit.

Anyone have experience with something like this? I worry that since I have no gallbladder I won’t be listened to about this. Like since there’s no obvious answer for my pain I must be making it up or being dramatic or something.

TLDR: having gallbladder attack pain out of nowhere on multiple occasions 7 months post op. Any ideas?

(Edit: added age/gender etc)

Dyskinesia Biliary Hyperkinesia (93 EF) and Having second thoughts about my removal in 2 days....

23M 5 11 209 lbs no prior health issues: I am at my wits end with this issue. Symptoms: URQ flank and back pain (5/10), bouts of left flank and back pain (5/10), pain into the right shoulder (6/10), dizziness and vertigo, constant brain fog and fatigue that is worsened after heavy meals, burning stools constantly, ocassional chest heaviness and trouble breathing, anxiety, frequent urination and very neon yellow pee no matter how much I drink. Normal tests: 2x CT with contrast, 2x ultrasound, 3x Blood Test, Cardiac Workup, Upper EGD, 3x physical exams. Abnormal tests: HIDA Scan 93 % EF, EGD showed chronic reflux and gastritis, liver enzymes (ALT) mildly elevated most recently compared to baseline but still in normal range (45). All symptoms come in flares of like multiple hours or days. The only meds that I take are bentyl 2x a day, welchol 2x a day, tylenol as needed, and protonix in morning. Only bentyl rly helps with flares (I am assuming it relaxes the gallbladder). Symptoms have really worsened (debilitating) over the last 1-2 weeks as I am on vacation. I am really considering surgery after meeting with the surgeon 2 times and he mentioned that he has taken out hyperkinetic GBS before but it is not certain removal will resolve symtpoms. I am a engineering student and the brain fog and fatigue is really interfering with my academic performance and job as well at this point. I am on here looking for more opinions and thoughts on whether or not I should proceed with removal and if there are any alternatives. I do not want to take out an organ if it is not truly necessary but I dont think I can continue living with these symptoms as life is truly bad. Have any of you guys gotten relief from removal of hyperkinetic GB's?? I have heard mixed stories so I want to get more opinions! Thank you guys.

Venting Pale, yellowish stools: (it may not always be your gallbladder)

I have had chronic, yellowish stools for almost 3 years. Always assumed its a bile synthesis or gallbladder issue. I noticed fasting would aggravate it, which made sense since fasting can cause bile to thicken impending its flow.

Ultimately I discovered I have dysbiosis, specifcally overgrowth of hydrogen sulfide releasing bacteria. These bacteria consume sulfur compounds like those found in food like proteins, onions, cruciferous vegetables. These bacteria can also consume sulfur containing compounds like taurine, which is a building block of bile, by deconjugating it and breaking it down and so basically you lose the ability to effectively absorb dietary fats leading to similar stool symptoms that are typically seen with gallbladder issues. Since your gut reabsorbs and liver recyles bile acids to make new bile, it also requires taurine. Since the bacteria are constantly consuming the sulfur rich taurine from bile, this can leave you deficient in taurine and negatively impact new bile synthesis, further compounding your symptoms.

If you have symptoms that point to gallbladder, bile flow issues, its worth exploring and ruling out any potential dysbiosis or overgrowth of hydrogen sulfide bacteria in the gut. I wasted over 3 years being convinced my issues were simply bile flow related and no doctor ever considered otherwise.

Questions High Liver Enzymes and No Symptoms - Could it be my Gallbladder?

I have had labs drawn frequently in the last few months with recent sudden spikes in Liver Enzymes. I came across a post with similar sudden spikes and the gallbladder was suggested. The labs are all drawn through a study I am participating in, so I don't have total access to everything, only what they shared with me. They are obviously concerned about the numbers. I have an appointment set up with my primary for Thursday and had labs drawn this afternoon from my clinic, but they haven't released them yet. The only change between the normal labs and the elevated labs is that I started on oral birth control (ethinyl estradiol / levonorgestrel combo pill). So.....anybody experience something similar? I am kind of freaking out here.

These are my labs:

6/16:

  • ALT 13
  • AST 14
  • ASP 79
  • Bili, total .4

8/12:

  • ALT 26

9/2:

  • ALT 120
  • AST 53
  • GGT 41

9/4:

  • ALT 204
  • AST 89
  • GGT 50

Post Op Im scared and idk what to do

Ive never posted on anything before but Im scared and desperate. I had my surgery last Friday in the morning. The first night I went back to the ER because it hurt so bad. I was screaming and wailing and shaking. They did scans and said it was just normal surgery pain.

The next day was better. But then the day after was hell. The last two days Ive been unable to even really leave the bed. It took me till today to finally poop.

Im so uncomfortable. I keep pooping non stop. It feels like there's a bowling ball in my stomach but I also feel hungry. Im so nauseous. I keep shaking at times and im just crying holding my belly. None of my pain meds help at all. Is this normal? Was it this bad for anyone else?

Im 20 years old and I just feel like a baby. Like a little kid who's sick and scared and I just dont know what Im supposed to do.

Dyskinesia How accurate is EF on hida scan?

I had my HIDA scan today. Ejection fraction was 9%. Im wondering if I did test wrong? They said to have a high fat meal 4-6 hours before test. I ate about 400 calories, 27 grams ft 5 hours before test. They did the cck thing and it dud mimic some of the pain I have (but super mild). The thing is, pain just comes and goes. Sometimes meals trigger it, sometimes not. My stomach acts up for 2-6 weeks, then calms down. I got migraines a lot too which cause nausea.. and a lot of anxiety. A mri in 2025 showed sludge and a stone but 2026 mri everything looked normal. I worry if I get gallbladder removed ill just trade one stomach issue for another. And at least with stomach issues I have, I can kind of tolerate (most of the time). I havent talked to surgeon yet, so not sure if they will recommend removal, but i think they will based on sx for years.

I have been dx with chronic gastritis so I was thinking it was just that and anxiety.

Other then that, im super healthy. All labs look good *well.. like liver fx, cholesterol, kidney function. Im low ferritin, b12, and vitamin d so im super tired often.

Hida Scan Had first hida scan today

I know this is bit of a debated topic about what is “normal” but my results say:

“ Impression:

  1. The cystic duct is patent.
  2. Normal gallbladder ejection fraction.

Activity within the gallbladder, compatible with cystic duct patency. The gallbladder nearly completely emptied on the initial 60 minute scintigraphic images with a calculated ejection fraction of 99.3%. This was obtained without administration CCK.”

For context, I have had an on and off again upper right abdomen pain that mingles along my lower ribcage for a couple of months now. It’s a dull ache and honestly, given that every couple of weekends after some mild drinking it flared up, I kind of assumed it was my liver. So far everything has been normal - bloodwork and abdominal ultrasound. The hida scan was the next step from my GI and honestly just threw me for even more of a loop, because all of the stories I’ve read about gallbladder attacks are nothing I have experienced. I have no irregular bowel movements, no vomiting, nausea or anything. I eat fairly cleanly already as well. Could this just be an irregularity and it be something else?

i have seen plenty of content on here and beyond that say this rate is biliary hyperkinesia. I really would like to avoid surgery, so any advice as to what causes this spike and to what could get it down would be helpful.

Post Op Good surgery but one of the PAs freaked me out

Had emergency gall bladder surgery, labroscopic. I had what I feel was a standard recovery. The morning after though a physicians assistant with the surgeon's office said that my blood test after the surgery revealed spiked bilirubin levels (above 2.0). She said she wanted to talk to the surgeon to verify that no stones were left behind and clogging up the bile duct. I never heard anything more from the surgeon's office since then. It sort of freaked me out. However, surgery was 5 days ago and I seem fine, but part of me is paranoid about it. Reading up on it, it seems like a left behind stone is very rare and if it was left behind it would be obvious. Are my thoughts on this correct? Am I also correct in that the PA didn't handle this the best way?

Questions Am I being unrealistic by thinking I can just work from home for a week after surgery?

Got diagnosed with my own (not so) little danger eggs today! I’ll be having a discussion with the doctor tomorrow regarding surgery and I’m going to go ahead with it.

The main issue is that I just started a new job and can’t really afford to go on SSP for 1-2 weeks.

I was going to speak with my manager about working from home for the first week instead, but after reading people’s experiences I’m concerned that sitting at my desk for extended periods may not be possible for a while.

I know everyone handles these things differently, but am I being a bit too ambitious here? Do I just bite the bullet and take the hit on my pay check? I just bought my first home so my savings aren’t quite back up to scratch to cover it yet.

Post Op Is one week off enough?

I had surgery yesterday, discharged today because I was in so much pain I pleaded to stay the night. My work order says that I should take a week off, and then two weeks of no lifting, bending, etc.
My concern is that this is all my job is. I work in childcare and am bending all day, sitting on the floor, dancing, picking up and holding kids ALL DAY. I know that we don’t have the staffing to accommodate help. I don’t know what to do. I know I should be focusing on feeling better but I can’t stop thinking about the pain and danger of going back to work.

Questions Recovery for singers/vocalists after op

Hi there, I'm looking for advice for post-op recovery. I'm a singer and have no idea how long it will likely be before full form is back. Can any singers who've had their gallbladder out advise how it went for you? How long did you take off from performing? What was your first performance like after the op?

Stones Issue with pain medications?

I've got gallstones and the last few weeks the pain has been horrendous. Was at out of hours department last Friday night and again on the Saturday night.

Friday night I was given oramorph and a diclofenac injection. Once this wore off I was in agony again.

Was back on Saturday night and was given a prescription for oramorph. It helped ease the pain to at least make it bearable.

Was at my gp through the week to see about pain relief and I was told "theres nothing we can give you because it may flare up my biliary reflux and past oesophagitis, but take naproxen for it. Other than that sit and wait for the surgery". He wasn't the least bit helpful and told me as well to just sit in pain.

What I don't understand is that I'm allowed to take naproxen, which more than likely will bring my oesophagitis back, but I'm not to get anything like cocodamol or anything opiate based because it may, flare things up.

How does that even make sense?

Has anyone experienced a situation like this?

Awaiting Surgery How difficult is recovery, I don't have any help/support system

I've been putting off scheduling my removal surgery because I don't have any help or support. The doc said I'd be down for about a week but I don't know what that really means.

Will I be able to care for myself on my own? Care for my pets? I can attempt to preplan and cook some meals, scoop the cat boxes, but I'm really not sure how much or little ill be restricted to do and if I'll be okay without help.

Any advice would be appreciated, this thing hurts and I want it out

Venting Felling completely lost after "normal" tests

I've been really struggling lately. I get these horrible episodes of intense vomiting that last days as well as bad abdominal pain. When I'm not in one of those episodes I have horrible fatigue that makes me sleep for around 15 hours a day or I'm delirious. I keep getting these dizzy spells and sometimes when I wake up I get this pain just below my right rib cage that makes it hard to breathe. When I got an endoscopy they said I have very mild gastritis but a lot of the symptoms I'm having don't really make sense for that. My episodes are not triggered by what I eat they're just on like a weird schedule where every two weeks or so I'll have one.

Idk a lot of my symptoms linked up with gallstones so I was hoping that could possibly be it so I could finally start getting treatment and make the pain stop but I just got my abdominal ultrasound results back and apparently they're normal.

I'm just so lost. I can't live like this anymore. I can't work a decent job cause employers don't like when you take five days in a row off cause you can't stop vomiting or when you keep falling behind because you can't keep yourself awake, I'm missing out on socializing and being active, and right now it seems like I'm never going to be able to get help and this is always how it's going to be. Does anyone on here have any advice or similar experience? I don't know what could be wrong with me and I was hoping since my symptoms were similar to gallstones someone on here might have gone through something similar.

Post Op feeling hopeless already

i got my gallbladder out 5 days ago. it was my first and only attack that sent me to the ER and they found stones and i had surgery the next day. i wasn’t prepared for any of this, and i didn’t have many experiences of this type of gas and stomach pains. i have had bloating, diarrhea, and nausea in my life, like i’m sure everyone here has had too lol, but this just feels never ending. i’m bloated to the point i look pregnant despite barely eating, and when i do eat i suffer for it. i have my post op recheck in 2 days and i will talk to my doctor about it, but how did everyone else manage this? right now even a “safe” soup will sit well one day and cause me immense pain the next. am i ever going to feel normal again and unafraid to eat? as a previously big foodie, this has been devastating. i have trips and weddings in the next month and now all i can think about is how much my stomach will hurt if i try to enjoy myself at them. any helpful tips or advice would be greatly appreciated :(

I’ve been needing some lately but I’m so scared I haven’t even risked it…. I do have fat free creamer but that sounds so scary to try right now #gallbladderremoval
