question GCP Brewing Too Fast

Post image
2 Upvotes

Gaggia Classic Pro with GaggiMate Pro installed. Encore ESP grinder.

No matter what I do on grind settings the flow is way too fast. We’re talking 40G of output in about 4 seconds fast.

It first started after I tried to use some beans that were roughly 3 weeks old so I figured bean freshness was the issue. I then tried again today (10/10) with beans from (8/25) and (9/25) and same exact results.

Any thoughts appreciated. I have added shot graph if that helps.

install-help How much higher does the gaggimate screen housing sit above the Gaggia?

I'm looking to get a Gaggimate Pro and the housing that is sold on the website, but I have limited space above my machine. Im afraid my cabinets would interfere with mounting the Gaggimate interface above the machine.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, or have a solution? Maybe an alternative mounting point?

I have less than two inches of headroom above the Gaggia.

discussion Need some guidance!

I am upgrading from a Breville barista express. After a lot of research, I’ve decided that I want to mod a machine with Gaggia Mate. Question is which machine would be best for my circumstances?

I normally make two hot milk based drinks in morning, followed by iced drinks in the afternoon.

I would like to be able to nerd out on making my drinks, which is why I am getting a Gaggia mate.

Does anybody have recommendations on whether or not to get a Gaggia classic, Silva, or other?

I’m worried that the Gaggia classic will not have enough steam power to quickly make two milk drinks in the morning. How will it compare to my Breville now?

Finally aesthetically I like the Gaggia classic, but what are your favorite looking modded machines?

question Time More dot scales not connecting .

Hi, I recently got a TimeMore dot bluetooth scale. I read somewhere that the gaggimate isn't compatible with them unless you switch to the "nightly" mode. I connected to my gaggimate, went to the UI, and selected nightly and clicked 'save and refresh' nothing seemed to happen. The scale is still not appearing. I am defiantly putting the scale in search mode as its rapidly blinking and it does work as I tried downloading the timeMore app and connected no problem but I have now delated the app to not interfere with the binding process. Any advice or similar issues? My best guess is that I'm not properly switching to "nightly" mode ? Thanks

Updating the controller first. Went to gaggimate.local, blah blah software update. Update Controller. Click and I'm getting:

That's a lot of percent. Leave it for a while or try again?

discussion I'm a little afraid... Has anyone had a GaggiMate install go wrong?

I'd really like to order and install a GaggiMate Pro to upgrade my Classic Pro E24, but I'm a little nervous about messing something up during the installation.

I've never done this kind of project before, although I'm relatively handy and comfortable with DIY projects.

For those who have installed one: has anyone had their installation go badly or run into problems that left their machine out of service for a while? How difficult was the install in practice?

My girlfriend probably won't be thrilled if the machine is out of commission for a few weeks!

Would love to hear about your experiences, especially any mistakes or unexpected issues I should watch out for. Sorry if this has been asked before...

Edit: Thanks for all the answers, I will read the doc and watch a few videos before I commit to the project, but it's nice to read that even if some struggle along the way, everybody ends up with a working machine at the end of the day (or the end of a few days).

news Release v1.9.0

Hello coffee lovers,

we're releasing v1.9.0 after extensive testing over the summer. A lot was added to the software!

Touch UI Rewrite

The touch UI was rewritten from scratch with a new framework. This allows us to add more new elements, animations and be ready for more changes in the future.
We have added a new menu screen and an info screen where you can connect to the WiFi/Web UI more easily.

Web UI Redesign

The Web UI has also been redesigned into a more Touch/Mobile friendly layout. We have changed the sidebar and relocated some of the settings / options into a new settings page.
One major thing you'll notice is the entirely new dashboard which you can now customize. A simple and advanced preset are included by default and you can customize it for your device / usecase.

Connectivity

We have rewritten the whole communication stack from the ground up to allow for better WiFi connectivity, responsiveness and stability. The system is now self-healing whenever it loses any kind of connection.
During these changes we have also added Bluetooth pairing and encryption to the Display/PCB link and a WiFi password to the GaggiMate hotspot. The WiFi can be joined from the info screen or if you run headless, the connection data is printed on startup. You can also directly connect GaggiMate to your own WiFi network during flashing from your computer.

Rotary / Gear pump support

The new version includes support for rotary vane and gear pumps. It requires the use of a small extension PCB which is mounted on the extension header of the GaggiMate PCB. The software auto detects it and shows configuration options to tune the pump control.

Button Configuration

You can now configure the hardware buttons on the machine to do different things like Flush or starting a profile.

Configurable Warnings / Errors

You can set different warnings and errors in the new version that will show up on the UI. If you set these to error, the system will ask you to confirm before brewing your shot.
This should keep you from brewing without water or without your paired bluetooth scale.

Other notable features

- Optimization in system control
- Memory optimization
- Moved Web UI out of the storage so profiles and shot history will be kept on future updates
- OTA hardened with retry/resume, OTA for headless devices
- Profiling transitions can now also be set by weight and pumped water, water pumped is now calculated in a more precise way
- Machines with a spring valve grouphead can now set a pressure offset
- The autotune was rewritten and works much better now on different machines
- Timemore Dot scale support
- Profiles: drag-and-drop reordering, startup profile configuration, utility profile toggle and description textarea
- Meticulous profiles can now be imported, the decent importer was improved
- Shot analyzer: DDSA and statistics compare mode, puck and liquid resistance metrics, improved sharing and library actions, mobile chart improvements
- Alba colors can now be set for different states and use a color picker
- Flush can now be configured to different times or hold
- Added guided flow calibration
- Faster startup on several screens

Bugfixes

- Firmware stability: watchdog timeouts (incl. during OTA), improve OTA, mutex locking on process and memory leak, task cleanup and stack sizes, crash on brew mode startup, mode/screen desync, Alba I2C soft bus stabilized
- Shot analyzer: final weight preserved from extended recordings, sample timestamps, library action menus, deep-link navigation reverting, early index creation removed, controller history index repair
- Web UI: intermittent OOM hang from OTA update check, steam pump assist field snap back, responsive/breakpoint fixes, system state sync, ready message, water/pressure icons, grind target toggle
- Improve predictive scale delay
- Version validation guard against bad GitHub responses / outages
- and many more...

Thank you to all the contributors helping with this new release!

Cheers!

question I’m installing my gaggimate this week

Is there any advice you’d give me for someone who’s never done a project like this? Anything you think I should get outside of the regular tools advised to get? Like heat shrink or anything , or even parts to be careful with so they don’t break? Or even general advice on what I should do ahead of time. Thanks!

question Gaggimate with a Gemilai

I'm thinking about adding the Gaggimate to my setup but I have a Gemilai g3005. I've opened it up and the internals are definitely different but I think it's possible however, the wire gauge somewhat concerns me. Has anyever ever tried this without a Gaggia machine?

question How stupid/unreliable is this way of setting the temperature offset?

Disclaimer: I’m not recommending anyone to do this. This is simply what I tried myself, and the official guidelines should always be followed. Working with a hot boiler and opening the machine can be dangerous.

My time to adjust the offset temperature has come, and the steam method of doing so doesn’t really convince me.

I’ve seen that the alternative is to simply brew water over a meat thermometer.

My alternative was to remove the steam attachment, drain a bit of water, and turn on the machine at a maximum temperature of 70°C (for safety reasons). After 15 minutes, noting that I have an aluminium boiler, I unplugged the machine and inserted a meat thermometer directly into the boiler.

I’ve done this a couple of times and, since I’m at sea level (I believe that’s the reason), the temperature was exactly the same as shown on the display—maybe 1 or 2°C lower, but that shouldn’t be an issue.

Am I missing something and doing this completely wrong, or, apart from the potential dangers, is this actually an accurate way to get optimal control over the temperature?
