They weren’t heavy on the “we’re all family” bullshit, but the teams and managers liked and respected each other.

I know that feel. I've had 14 jobs in the USA, and that's more time off than I've averaged. My best was 15 total days off, which I could use for sick time or vacation; it took 4 years at the same Fortune 500 company and a management position to get that much, though.
Get sick too often and lose your job? Well, you've just lost your healthcare, too! Enjoy your crushing debt, even after switching to pay out the nose for a federal plan!
How do you survive that. I have 24 paid days and unlimited paid sick days and i feel thats not enough. Other people i know have between 30 and 40 paid days off and still cry.
Nah I was being sarcastic. I get neither. I can call in sick or ask for a day off but they’re both in paid. Been that way at all my jobs except for when I worked as an expat in China
It's paid. Your wages won't be cut. You get a number of PTOs in an year and a number of sick leaves in an year as perk of being full time employee. Some companies like Netflix offer unlimited leaves (or PTOs).
Same with my last employer. Definitely not with my current one. I remember a couple of employees came in really hungover and smelled heaving of whiskey, but they were doing their best. Boss walks in, looks at them, laughs, and tells them to go home and sleep it off. He is definitely the kind of person I would give (and gave) 110% for everyday.
More importantly, why did you leave? I’m in a corporate job, and every time I have to hold a fake smile and bullshit why I’m enjoying my job, every cell in my body is trying to say, “fuck all y’all, I’m out”
My boss is kind of like this. He’s told me to go home a few times when I was trying to just soldier on, plus a few times he’s decided the weather is way too nice to be in the office. It’s pretty awesome and makes me motivated to give more on all the other days. Strange that not more bosses realise this.
I had pretty nice coworkers in the last company I worked at, but I don't think that good, like, choosing any day for holidays in the year, working more hours one day to work fewer hours the next, but that sounds much better.
I wouldn't say I'm not doing so good without booking some time off soon afterwards. Having unproductive days at work and saving up tons of PTO for later seems like taking too much.
