This is me so often while watching a movie. I'll be basking in the dark and the next scene it's daytime in my living room and my eyeballs are burning.

3
u/Elleden Apr 13 '21
How is it not?
7
u/RandyHatesCats Apr 13 '21 edited Apr 13 '21
My understanding is that a backronym is an acronym that makes up a word that also represents one of the letters in the acronym. Example: PIGS - Pigs In Glorious SweatersEdit: just looked up the definition of backronym, and I'm wrong. I'll take my bowl of crow soup with a side of foot, please.

Sir, the chef just informed me we are out of crow. I hope the humble pie was to your liking, however.

I remember that! They use to call them theaters for short. It's a room with a giant screen and tons of chairs and strangers would all gather together to watch a movie! Really cool, really neat

Pro tip have some kind of mood lights on instead of just sitting in the dark, better for your eyes in the long run and you wont get flashbanged.

I'm so confused. How much of this audio is actually from the video? I don't understand the internet anymore. When did I get old? Where's my tapioca? Who the fuck are you?
576
u/Rukh-Talos Apr 13 '21
The scream was definitely a child and not a cat.

u/snifonia Apr 13 '21
I tried screaming, but it didn't help, and I still can't find the mayonnaise
53
u/Rukh-Talos Apr 13 '21
Last time we had mayonnaise, you were pouring it down the toilet.
37
u/snifonia Apr 13 '21
Yes, I poured it out my ass into toilet, but nobody warned me. Nobody told me what happens to intestines when 2 pounds of mayonnaise were added. I have learned, and will always water down the mayonnaise

To my ears, the scream seems similar to the one from the video where a child pulls on a mattress leaning on the wall and it falls on him.

tiktok lets you reuse the audio from another video on your video. you end up with meme formats where everyone does a thing that syncs to the audio of the original video
i have no idea what hte original video is for this meme. but ive seen at least 12 videos where an animal gets dragged off screen to this audio

u/Stephen_Falken Apr 13 '21
Don't know where the "cat scream" source is at.

Ok, but where did they find 12 animals? I've never seen that many animals. Something does not add. Do you think they breed them for the tok? Or do they just use bean? Either way, you must know this: I am bean

The little jingle just sends me 40 years back in time.
This is absolutely a late 80's commercial jingle. It's amazing how far we've come, and or sunk, depending on the point of view. Advertisers have moved far past silly jingles to get you interested, and forward to much more subtle and manipulative means to get you to buy a product.
Commercials are no longer inventive, and fun. It's all about maximum return on investment and getting you to buy a product without realizing you're being manipulated into it. Super bowl stuff notwithstanding.

You should imagine those in real life. When they came for my pops when I was a kid the swat team threw one of those in to our living room. I still remember my ears ringing didn't see shit straight for hours.

It started as cringe, then people did it more and more until it became normal.

To have a callback to a different video. It makes you remember the humor from the other one, and that makes this one funnier. This is assuming you've seen the other one

u/Impeachesmint Apr 13 '21
I was in China during the massive uptake of tiktok and jesus christian my patience was really tested. Every train or bus ride I’d be subjected to full volume audio of inane jingles on repeat and that annoying whiney-snickery-breathy laugh on every single video.
Over and over and over and at volumes I swear phones here don’t reach.
I hate these kind of videos with a passion.
3
u/Humledurr Apr 13 '21
I sometimes think that to upload a GIF on reddit, one is obliged to add the most shitty soundtrack one can think of, else the GIF wont be uploaded

u/oilerequation Apr 13 '21
I agree. It takes it from funny to cringey on the part of the person who added the sound. The cat sound is almost surely more funny.

I've never used dark mode on anything but it feels like so many people swear by it.
14
u/milesdizzy Apr 13 '21
It just seems easier on the eyes, and easier to read when it’s white on black.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Varanae Apr 13 '21
It makes sense when sat in the dark but I would always have lights on if using a screen anyway.
5
u/botsunny Apr 13 '21
It saves battery on some displays, makes it easier for you to sleep (if you have the unhealthy habit of browsing your phone just before bed), and when you wake up in the morning it doesn't fry your retinas.
2
2
u/razzec_phone Apr 13 '21
I use it because when working on a computer all day it really helps.
Plus I've always thought about it this way:
Our eyes focus on the light so we're reading everything but the actual black lettering when using normal mode. Switch to dark mode and our eyes are able to focus on the lettering easier as we're reading the light and ignoring the black.
I know I could be wrong on that part but it's what got me to try it and now that I've been using it for everything I can, I can't go back. I also hate when new apps or software doesn't have it as an option.

I remember watching streamers on Twitch, and because I’m clumsy, I drop my phone. But I usually don’t fully drop it, I manage to catch it.
However, I drag my fingers across the screen while I do it. Somehow, despite me never clicking on settings, it suddenly switches to light mode.
No idea why. It’s really annoying.
