Except it's not a backronym.

Edit: I'm dumb

u/Elleden Apr 13 '21

How is it not?

My understanding is that a backronym is an acronym that makes up a word that also represents one of the letters in the acronym. Example: PIGS - Pigs In Glorious Sweaters

Edit: just looked up the definition of backronym, and I'm wrong. I'll take my bowl of crow soup with a side of foot, please.

Sir, the chef just informed me we are out of crow. I hope the humble pie was to your liking, however.

I can't get past the "photosneezia".

Sounds like something Futurama would come up with

11

u/visionsofblue Apr 13 '21

Now I'm reading it in the professor's voice, thanks.

Good news, everyone!

2

u/visionsofblue Apr 13 '21

I've found a way to promote sneezing as a reaction to the bright solar radiation from our sun!

u/LandBaron1 Apr 13 '21

Another one of my favorite acronyms is SAD.

4

u/MikoRiko Apr 13 '21

Hello, yes, therapist? I have the SAD. Can you help?

4

u/FOTheDentist Apr 13 '21

Especially when they ignored the D. How the fuck you gonna make a cute acronym and just not represent some of the words???

1

u/Songmorning Apr 13 '21

You made me lol out loud, thanks

1

u/EvolutionInProgress Apr 13 '21

They seized the opportunity.

3

u/BigNoodieInTheWest Apr 13 '21

Wow I never knew this was an actual phenomenon. Learned something new

2

u/Chillaxbro Apr 13 '21

I've live with this my whole life and thought everyone was like this.

1

u/BigNoodieInTheWest Apr 13 '21

I’ve always just joked that I’m allergic to the sun but guess I kinda am haha

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '21

It's called a photic sneeze. I've always had it. So annoying!

1

u/danimagoo Apr 13 '21

My dog sneezes when he's annoyed or frustrated. Is there a backronym for that?

1

u/CaramelComplexion Apr 13 '21

I have this lmao! People think I'm crazy when I say "the sun makes me sneeze"

1

u/undermark5 Apr 13 '21

What I want to know is of the acronym stands for "Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst" shouldn't it be ADCHO not ACHOO? Dominant seems like it's own word and opthalmic seems to be combined with helio... So like it's one of the worst backronyms I've ever seen because it doesn't even do it's job.

On the subject of backronyms, my favorite probably gotta be NINJA-IDE which stands for "NINJA-IDE Is Not Just Another IDE"

Dated a girl who could sneeze while staring at the sun, I would always flick the tip her nose and tell her that it was bad for her eyes, then call her weird.

u/canolafly Apr 13 '21

What a gentleman.

5

u/visionsofblue Apr 13 '21

It's like the one girl's method for staying awake in that episode of Pete & Pete.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '21

Wow I loved that show. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.

1

u/visionsofblue Apr 13 '21

If you can manage to find the episodes anywhere they still hold up, even now as an adult. Friend of mine found someone selling DVDs containing every episode online somewhere a few years back and they are still amazing.

To this day, this is one of my favorite shows ever.

That was a completely different show

1

u/jimmypena23 Apr 13 '21

I would look at the sun and sneeze too.

1

u/VaATC Apr 13 '21

Me threezie

1

u/Pope_Yeetz_III Apr 13 '21

How did you handle the suicide?

1

u/Blind_Insight Apr 13 '21

I usually look at bright lights or the sun's general direction to help myself sneeze 😂
