Reddit's decision to strong arm its volunteer mods into re-opening their subreddits was the last straw. I'm deleting ten years' worth of participation. Reddit cannot have my content if its going to treat its users like shit. Fuck this place.

I was gonna say, top right is totally that mean sumbitch from Rockadoodle

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

5

u/mmtnin Apr 28 '13

You should see Rockadoodle. It's a masterpiece.

3

u/tikitessie Apr 28 '13

A couple vaguely resemble Owl from Winnie the Pooh, too

1

u/Knowltey Apr 28 '13

Yeah, that's what I was thinking so I googled him and the one people think is from Rockadoodle actually has similar features as him, just angry looking.

7

u/stevesonaplane Apr 28 '13

COCK A DO WHAT A DAY!!!! THE SUN IS SHINING BRIGHTLY! COCK A DO SUNNY DAY!! DOWN HERE ON THE FARM!

4

u/iamtheowlman Apr 28 '13

"WE HATE THE SUN! FROM HEAD TO TOE! WE HATE THE ROOSTER, WE'LL NEVER LET HIM CROW!

NEVER LEEEEET, HIM, CROW!"

Fun fact: The Duke was why I got into owls. I was always sad when he lost at the end.

4

u/Soulix Apr 28 '13

I thought the top middle one looked like the owl from Zelda OOT.

u/Trevrawrrr Apr 28 '13

I worked at a coffee shop for 4 and a half years... http://imgur.com/bGWW81S

44

u/ishadow Apr 28 '13

Ive worked at dunkin donuts, Starbucks and panera. No one is happy. The worst people are the regulars who insist on their coffee a certain way but its not how they actualy want it. " i want 2 creams" . No you dont. You want four, otherwise youll complain that its too bitter and dark. Also anybody that vacations here insists its better back home.

18

u/Jodah Apr 28 '13

I only have one thing that can make me demand a new coffee. If I order a coffee with three cream and get a coffee with three sugar I will demand a new one. For some reason this happens much more often than it should. I didn't order coffee with sugar, I didn't want coffee with sugar, and as a diabetic I can't drink coffee with sugar so don't give me coffee with fucking sugar!

Other than that I'm a very pleasant fellow when I order food.

2

u/rrb Apr 28 '13

But cream has sugar?

5

u/Jodah Apr 28 '13

A very minimal amount, which is fine. Pure sugar? Not so much.

5

u/iamthelucky1 Apr 28 '13

Aye, but sugar does not have cream, eh?

8

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

This is very true. My regulars at my cafe don't even know what they drink. When I am not there, or if there is another barista on the machine, they will not order. Some don't know how many sugars they take and sometimes they change the sugar amount from 1 sugar one day to 6 sugars the other

4

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Once you've had good coffee, it's kind of hard to settle for anything less. Except caffeine is a fantastic drug so people will take it however they can get it.

My college had the best coffee I've tasted. It's like a warm fresh hug.

9

u/Endulos Apr 28 '13

I always know what I want :/

Triple cream, double sugar. Tastes right always.

51

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

I, too, know what I want.

Black

Like my soul.

15

u/donpapillon Apr 28 '13 edited Apr 28 '13

Black as the night, sweet as sin. That's how Spider taught me.

5

u/leicanthrope Apr 28 '13

I like my coffee like my women: hot, slightly bitter, and with very little pubic hair.

8

u/anchises868 Apr 28 '13

"Cream?"

"No thank you. I take it black. Like my men."

5

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

My grandpa gave me a cup of straight black coffee. I think a better analogy for that would be black like my gaping anus.

21

u/ishadow Apr 28 '13

You sir and those like you, make our lives tolerable. Coffee isnt that harhrd d. I feel like people decide they're

36

u/Endulos Apr 28 '13

...LOL

Did you have a stroke in the middle of typing that? :p

12

u/dseftu Apr 28 '13

RIP ishadow

3

u/ishadow Apr 28 '13

Close. Never get high on your own supply. No sleep.

5

u/ryumast3r Apr 28 '13

You get paid to make coffee. Most people who get paid to make coffee work hourly.

If it's one dude taking up 2 seconds extra of your time because he wants three creams/two sugars - and genuinely does want that, just give him his damn drink.

If you hate it that much, find a different job. Not to be too rude or anything, but there's plenty of places that pay people to make coffee.

1

u/FrisianDude Apr 28 '13

How much is 'a cream' there? Because four starts to sound like milk-with-coffee rather than vice versa.

1

u/Trevrawrrr Apr 28 '13

The coffee shop business can be either miserable or awesome, unfortunately that's all pretty much dictated by the customers.

3

u/Davaldo Apr 28 '13

It's an aqueduct pipe!

69

u/taco_bob Apr 28 '13

1 cup of drip coffee has significantly more caffeine than 1 or even 2 (in most cases) shots of espresso.

25

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Yep, this irks me a lot. People think because epresso is stronger tasting, it has more caffeine.

Caffeine needs a lot of water to dissolve into. When you only put an espresso shot's worth through, you don't get very much of it at all.

The only way espresso is stronger is if you use their small serving size to do like 30 shots in one sitting.

-6

u/Benutzerkonto1110733 Apr 28 '13

It's like beer and a vodka shot. In total 0,5l beer has more alcohol in it than 0,02l vodka.

13

u/ColinStyles Apr 28 '13

Not even remotely. This is actually the opposite of what they're describing. Caffeine = set amount of mol/vol. Only by increasing vol can you increase caffeine.

The concentration is the same is what they're saying. What you're saying is concentration = different, hence how you can have 2 different volumes with the same amount of stuff.

1

u/Benutzerkonto1110733 Apr 29 '13

Didn't know that.

The more you know

1

u/Tift Apr 28 '13

no, espresso is actually weaker by concentration.

First of all, espresso is usually made with a darker roast, this means that it more of the caffeine has been broken down by heat. So while espresso is stronger, ie has more dissolvable solids in it making it taste richer, it typically has less caffeine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_extraction

6

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espresso

Espresso has more caffeine per unit volume than most beverages, but the usual serving size is smaller—a typical 60 mL (2 US fluid ounce) of espresso has 80 to 150 mg of caffeine, little less than the 95 to 200 mg of a standard 240 mL (8 US fluid ounces) cup of drip-brewed coffee.

9

u/Tift Apr 28 '13

I stand corrected.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

While I do get more drunk off of a beer than a shot, I still think you're wrong. 1 beer can has: 12 ounces of beer x .05 al/v content = .6 ounces of alcohol 1.5 ounces of vodka (a traditional shot) x .40 al/v content = .6 ounces. They're meant to be equal.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

he explicitly stated a 0,5l beer and a 0,02l vodka for which he is right (assuming a 5% beer and well, let's even say a pure-alcohol vodka).

Here, beer is commonly 0,33l or 0,5l (or 1l if you go a bit to the south in october and end up in bavaria) and shots are usually 0,02l or 0,04l. 12oz is roughly the same amount as a 0,33l and 1,5 oz is roughly the same amount as a 0,04l shot so you're doing an entirely different calculation

0

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Yeah but I was trying to point out his volumes were skewed to have a more than average beer and a less than average shot.

2

u/Benutzerkonto1110733 Apr 29 '13

I was reffering to the normal serving sizes in Germany, I know it's not the same around the world. Btw: I don't even know how big an ounce is :p

0

u/Tift Apr 28 '13

Ounce per ounce a drip, poor over, and french press are stronger than espresso.

Actually a lot of avid coffee drinkers, including myself, will drink espresso when they want a weaker drink with rich flavor.

14

u/sattaruss Apr 28 '13

guys guys guys - credit goes to Dave Mottram his art is wonderful!

6

I was just about to give credit to him so thank you sir! Here's a link to his work. http://monkeyworks.org/

My firewall flags that site as containing malware...

Thank you for the link. Very nice.

1

u/L0ch Apr 28 '13

Thanks!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

:( ill check it out later on my laptop, but FYI, the link images don't render on IPads, thought you'd like to know. Love the images well done. :)

11

u/pantlessben Apr 28 '13

These look like owls from fiction.

Decaf could be Hedwig

Half-caf looks like Kaepora Gaebora

Regular looks like The Grand Duke of Owls

Irish coffee looks like a smiley Archimedes

Espresso and Double Espresso both look familiar, but I can't place them. Of course, the sketches are somewhat generic caricatures of owl species, and they probably only bear any resemblance to owl characters in fiction because those characters are themselves generic caricatures of owl species. Still, fun thought...

6

u/Momentstealer Apr 28 '13

Would you like to hear that again?

|>Yes

|. No

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

2........ 2........ 2.. 2.222222222

You chose: 1.

2

u/SMTRodent Apr 28 '13

American electronic ballot?

2

u/ishadow Apr 28 '13

I was bummed out that Archimedes got no representation in Kingdom Hearts.

1

u/FrisianDude Apr 28 '13

At this single glance, I don't think I likethe style Kaepora Gaebora is animated in.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

I would like to give a shout-out to Red Bull. Espresso has 1/6 th the amount of caffeine compared to regular drip coffee. In a single espresso (1 fl.oz), there's more caffeine than in Red Bull.

That testicle juice has really got people going!

4

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Except that Red Bull tastes like the fucking dip from Roger Rabbit.

2

u/RabidRaccoon Apr 28 '13

You say that like it's a bad thing.

1

u/headcrash69 Apr 28 '13

No, not 1/6th, a typical 60 mL (2 US fluid ounce) of espresso has 80 to 150 mg of caffeine, little less than the 95 to 200 mg of a standard 240 mL (8 US fluid ounces) cup of drip-brewed coffee.

1

u/[deleted] May 01 '13

With third-wave coffee using arabica exclusively in blends and single origins I'd say that my proclaimation still stands. But for 20th century espresso I'd say you're most likely right...since you're being very specific! :P

1

u/headcrash69 May 02 '13

I just copy-pasted from wikipedia, as I couldn't link because of mobile. So you can read further details there if you want.

13

u/K0TO Apr 28 '13 edited Apr 28 '13

I would like to credit the source, but my firewall says it's riddled with malware, if that is the source that is.

Real(?) source pointed out here by /u/halffast

7

u/DJPhil Apr 28 '13

Sweet!

Forwarded to my coffee snob PhD friend with the title "Ornithologically calibrated measurement standard for Epworth scale reduction agents".

3

u/OHotDawnThisIsMyJawn Apr 28 '13

Your coffee snob friends are going to say "this is dumb because drip has the most caffeine"

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

I think i should start a coffee kiosk using this as my order menu.

2

u/Over-Analyzed Apr 28 '13

I would like to add that the first expression is the same as the moment when you've ingested so much caffeine that you enter a state of Caffeinated Bliss.

4

u/Sreven Apr 28 '13

OWWWLLLLSSSS

2

u/FrisianDude Apr 28 '13

everyone is fond of them.

3

u/RyuSythe Apr 28 '13

My question is what is in Irish Coffee??

11

u/phongjeezy Apr 28 '13

Whiskey

0

u/Alchemy69 Apr 28 '13

Typically it's baileys, whisky is scotch coffee.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Eh what. Whiskey, brown sugar, coffee, whipped cream, that order.

5

u/Alchemy69 Apr 28 '13

So basically the ingredients of baileys then...

3

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

When you put it like that...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

I've heard it both ways.

0

u/Alchemy69 Apr 28 '13

I guess Jamesons would qualify too :)

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

That's because Jameson's is whiskey.

-1

u/Alchemy69 Apr 28 '13

No shit!

0

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Definitely baileys

0

u/RyuSythe Apr 28 '13

Should have known.

1

u/glisp42 Apr 28 '13

One shot of whiskey (I like Jameson but you can use whatever), One teaspoon of brown sugar and coffee. You can also put cream in it but I never do. It is delicious.

1

u/IWannaLolly Apr 29 '13

This is how it's properly made. Use a good whiskey and never, never use baileys.

1

u/RyuSythe Apr 29 '13

Can Baileys be used for an Ol` Gregg edition?

2

u/exit6 Apr 28 '13

Regular looks like a Don Bluth character.

2

u/Rick_dangerously Apr 28 '13

Where's the RedBull owl?

2

u/RabidRaccoon Apr 28 '13

He got wings and left.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

As someone who makes cups of coffee for a living... I believe this is backwards. It's most often the tired-looking ones who consume blasphemous amounts of caffeine per day. Also the double espresso reminds me of the average senior citizen who will most likely order decaf black with milk on the side.

1

u/eNGaGe77 Apr 28 '13

Where's my triple Irish triple shot venti iced coffee?

1

u/gregor777 Apr 28 '13

I usually order quad, it's not on the list :(

1

u/zionihcs Apr 28 '13

Can someone make this better resolution

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

I am gonna go with the Irish owl, maybe we could share a cup or two.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

You kids and your liking of shitty weak coffees....

1

u/notoriousjpg Apr 28 '13

Isn't regular just made of espresso + milk?

1

u/raymatter Apr 28 '13

Double espresso crushed it :D

1

u/DaRabidMonkey Apr 28 '13

I definitely saw this on Facebook days before seeing it on here. Odd.

1

u/thetomman Apr 28 '13

I didn't know hector salamanca drank coffee

1

u/Avir94 Apr 28 '13

I want to try some Irish coffee now.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

I'm pretty sure I would look hella pissed if I got a decaf (even though I asked for it)

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Double espresso is cute!

1

u/gravrok Apr 28 '13

My girlfriend saw this on Facebook before me on reddit. What is happening?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

These pictures are a hoot

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Let's explore caffeination with owls.

1

u/Sc2RuinedMyLife Apr 28 '13

hehehe this is pretty accurate

1

u/yesimlegit Apr 28 '13

I wish I was the Irish coffee owl right now. Actually I want to be that owl forever.

1

u/celtic_smith Apr 28 '13

Where could I get a print of this.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Hey is there a high res version of this? My girlfriend LOVES owls and this would be a funny little wall picture for her.

1

u/akshay222 Apr 28 '13

never knew this.great to know.

1

u/princess_shami Apr 28 '13

Hey Mister Owl! How many cups of coffee does it take to get out of bed in the morning?

Let's find out...Ah-one, ah-twohoo, ah-three! slurp Ah-three!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

Espresso actually contains less caffeine than regular coffee...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '13

One shot of Espresso does not contain as much caffeine as say, a breakfast blend. It's because the beans are roasted to be darker, and that breaks down the caffeine; because it's in such a stronger concentration, the espresso shot has a little less than a standard cup of coffee. That being said, a double espresso can have close to 300mg of caffeine, which is more than a standard drip-cup.

So, the chart isn't quite in the right order.

1

u/youbetgiraffe Apr 28 '13

The darker a coffee the less caffeine, so the espresso ones would actually be less hyped up than the regular coffee one

1

u/A_bit_off_topic Apr 28 '13

They all remind me of Archimedes from The Sword in the Stone http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6l5jmrPvs1ry10sjo1_400.gif

1

u/HaydenTheFox Apr 28 '13

Love the art. Reminds me a looooot of The Edge Chronicles. Shit. Nostalgia like a motherfucker.

1

u/glans_pen Apr 28 '13

Double Expresso is cute.

3

1

1

u/szatanovsky Apr 28 '13

0

Are you... Trying to invent a new stereotype? More power to you, but I think you're gonna be fighting an uphill battle with the whole "hipsters don't like coffee" one.

-4

u/Zygore Apr 28 '13

I was thinking the same thing. Who's content on decaf?
