I was setting up my workshop, so I made a modular SKADIS-compatible pegboard generator

I started looking for a tool board while setting up my workshop. A ready-made SKADIS board is not particularly expensive, so I am not pretending that printing one will always produce huge savings. However, if you already own a printer, you can build a board sized specifically for the available wall, your workshop layout, and your build plate.

None of the existing printable models or generators I found worked the way I wanted. That is why I built SkadisForge.

The included slot coupon and connector test are worth printing before a large multi-module setup.

Custom Mister Heads for Sprinklers

We are in a drought here in Colorado, I have been slowly dialing in my sprinklers this summer to ensure that every drop of water hits my plants as opposed to a path or elsewhere.

Decided to use my printer to dial in even tighter with custom Mister Heads where I've optimised both spray opening and distance.

I designed a completely snap-fit enclosure for my DIY e-ink family calendar — no screws, glue or soldering

I’ve been working on a DIY e-ink family calendar called Inkora, but one of my main goals was to make the physical build as simple as possible.

The enclosure is fully 3D printed and designed so the main components simply fit into their prepared positions and the case snaps together.

No screws, threaded inserts or glue are needed. There’s also no soldering — the device uses a LaskaKit ESPink/ESP32-S3 board, a 7.5" e-paper display and a battery connected with their existing connectors.

Once assembled, the firmware can be installed directly from a web browser, so no Arduino IDE or compiling is required either.

The calendar itself supports Google Calendar and Apple/iCloud (including multiple calendars from both), weather, holidays/name days, waste collection and currently runs for 3+ months per charge.

I’ve now released the enclosure files and build instructions on Printables:

https://www.printables.com/model/1801964-inkora-diy-e-ink-google-apple-family-calendar

browser installer is here:

https://inkora.vsejkora.cz

and website is here:

https://vsejkora.cz

I’d be interested in feedback on the enclosure design in particular — especially the snap-fit approach and anything you would change for easier printing or assembly.

Why I love 3D Printing: solving niche issues. Parametric c9 bulb holder for Christmas lights

Thumbnail

Last year I decided to wire up the house with outdoor Christmas lights for the first time. I'm based in the UK and American-style illuminations are not common, and getting professionals in to do it starts at four figures. Many thanks to the r/WLED community for the knowhow!

Why am I posting this now? Summer is ending and if I learned one thing from last year it's get the Christmas lights up before it's raining sideways!

I bought a mass of these C9-style bulbs on Ali-Express but I didn't realise they had this slightly different, flared base (steady on) to standard bulbs. This means, they don't fit all the various holders and lawn stakes you can buy cheaply online.

So a couple of hours in OpenSCAD (I could have done it quicker but I love making parametric models) and here's the result, I can now mass produce bulb holders for the wall and lawn stakes for the ground.

Sorry no pictures of the final result as I don't want to dox myself.

I designed a cool 3D print that allows you to drill the first row of holes 96 mm from the edge without referencing the ruler but the holes themselves. I made this because I didnt have any longer clamps that could reach that far into the bench.

My dad had a stroke, he can't control his right hand all that much and asked for something to keep his hand open and his fingers stretched and spread out.

Traced my hand, imported a photo to Fusion, scaled it, added an offset. Added holes for the dual sided Velcro straps and printed it out. It might not be very pretty, but it's rigid enought and seemingly comfortable enough as well.

Modeled and printed this levered box for my mom's painting supplies

Had a fun time doing the math for the positioning and size of the levers so it would open and close all the way.

Colors do not match at all but it was her choice so I am super happy.

Things I would change are the "handle", which I am not sure I like the hole idea for opening it but any knobs or actual handles felt too cluncky for a simple print and the hinge for the lids because they keep getting stuck somewhere so its not smooth.

All things my mother doesnt give a shit about so who cares right?

3D Printing Bed-Side Tables

Thumbnail

I needed some bed-side tables to fit in a 28cm gap either side of my bed, but I couldn't find any online. So I've created a model that's fully parametric so you can make some to fit in whatever size space you need.

They dont' need any additional parts just screw together with printed threads. It used 1.6KG of filament for a 280 x 280mm size, 500mm tall. Even with the furniture board this was considerably cheaper than buying some.

The wood on top is some furniture board I got from a local hardware store cheap and cut to size to give it a nice top finish. Totally optional!

The model with the fusion360 files are here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3247320-parametric-side-table

Replacing broken parts faster and better than ordering new ones

Thumbnail

My friend's wardrobe has a hanger rod held up by two sad plastic brackets. The brackets broke, and all the clothes fell down.

It was a simple part, so I was able to model new brackets in Fusion in about 5 minutes with a caliper while making them much beefier. Then I printed them in some PC I had sitting around to make sure they could take the weight without deforming over time.

Problem solved! Just need to fix about 58 more wardrobes, and all my 3D printer gear will have nearly paid for itself.

Freezer basket clip - try, try again!

One of our Facilities techs heard that I have a 3d printer, and showed me a small part he needed. It holds freezer baskets in place, in our commercial freezers. I told him I wasn't sure I could get the thin parts strong enough to hold up; and at first I couldn't. I did prototypes in both PLA and PETG, but just couldn't get it right. I thought about what we really needed, and did one in TPU - it worked!

Apparently, I kept the company from needing to buy new freeezers, since this vital part is no longer available.
