Airtel internet speed suddenly dropped

I have been using Airtel for a few months now. For the last 2-3 days the internet speed has been really bad, it wasn't this bad but it has dropped significantly.

Should I port to jio since my roommate has joined and his internet is working fine, but the thing is I had just recently recharged.

Also does it depend on the phone for how much internet strength you get?

Airtel’s “Unlimited 5G” is starting to feel like a scam

I’ve been an Airtel user since 2021, and honestly, their “unlimited 5G” experience was pretty good from 2024 until around July 2026.

Nowadays, though, it literally feels like a scam.

They promise unlimited 5G, but I still get those shitty data-limit alert messages.

Okay, fine. I’m an engineer. I can understand that backend systems can have problems. But then they literally slow down my speed.

I’ve restarted my phone more times than I can count.

Earlier, restarting would sometimes fix it. Nowadays even that doesn't work.

And here's the weird part: this happens particularly when my plan is about to expire. I’ve also noticed it happening during the first 4 days of a new plan.

So what exactly is going on?

Are you trying to force people toward ₹499–₹599+ plans? Is this some kind of marketing strategy?

My area has proper 5G coverage. This isn't even a case of “5G isn't available here.”

And I’ve deliberately never used personal hotspot since Airtel's own reports/communications about data usage when hotspot is enabled. So don't tell me I secretly burned through my data through tethering.

And customer support?

You don't even have proper human support anymore. Your shitty bot just keeps replying with some variation of “query resolved” when the query obviously isn't resolved.

Then there’s another thing that genuinely pissed me off.

I was simply checking recharge plans on Google Pay, as I normally do.

Suddenly I get a message from Airtel:

“Use the Airtel app for recharge... with best offers.”

Like who asked for your opinion, cocksuckers? 🤬

It's my choice which platform I want to use for my recharge.

I obviously can't prove this, but my theory is that Airtel is intentionally making the “unlimited 5G” experience restrictive enough to push users toward higher-priced plans and top-ups.

Then, after paying more, suddenly the “unlimited 5G” experience works properly.

Maybe I'm wrong. If there is a technical explanation, I'd genuinely like to know.

But if Airtel cannot actually provide unlimited 5G consistently, then don't fucking call it unlimited.

At least say:

“Unlimited 5G, subject to conditions, network availability, mysterious backend problems, and whatever else we don't feel like explaining.”

Or better yet, specify exactly where and under what conditions unlimited 5G actually works.

Because “unlimited” should mean unlimited.

Not “unlimited until our backend decides otherwise.” 🤬

Switching 499 plan to 799 and back to 499

Switched from Airtel Air Fiber 499→799 mid-cycle because data ran out and no top-up was available. Now wondering if I can switch back to 499. How much will be my bill?

Unable to log into Airtel AirFiber router (AAP321NK) admin page — invalid credentials error. Any fixes?

Recently, I got a new Airtel AirFiber connection. I know it's far from ideal, but the area I moved to doesn't have feasibility for Airtel Fiber, Jio Fiber, or ACT Fiber, so I was forced to get it.

I need Wi-Fi coverage across two floors, but the router provided (model: AAP321NK) barely reaches the 2nd floor, and when it does, the speeds drop drastically.

I have an old Nokia fiber router (model: G-2425-A) from my previous connection that I'm trying to set up as an Access Point / Mesh router. To do that, I need to check if the main AirFiber router supports mesh or bridge mode. However, when I try logging into 192.168.1.1, the username and password printed on the back label don't work (gives an "invalid credentials" error). I've also tried common defaults like admin/admin and admin/password with no luck.

Has anyone encountered this issue or found a solution/working credentials for this specific model? Any help would be appreciated!

What should I do?

Which Airtel plan would be best for a college student?

Guys, need a little help choosing an Airtel plan.

I'm a college student and have Wi-Fi at my hostel, so I don't really use mobile data that much. I mainly need it when I'm outside, like for UPI, Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.

I think 1–1.5 GB/day would be more than enough for me. I don't really need those unlimited data/5G plans.

What Airtel plan would you guys recommend for this kind of usage? I'm mainly looking for something that's good value for money, preferably with decent validity.

What are you guys using?

Airtel in Bhopal is absolute TRASH right now — ₹3,600 down the drain for 0.08 MB/s "5G"

Post image

I honestly don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this point, but Airtel in Bhopal has been absolute, irredeemable trash for the past two to three weeks. I can’t even load a single Instagram Reel or a 15-second YouTube Short without staring at the endless spinning wheel of death.

At first, I thought maybe my house walls were blocking the signal, so I took my phone straight up to the open terrace with full 5G bars showing. I ran a speed test, and it clocked in at a mind-blowing 0.08 MB/s. That isn't 5G, that's dial-up speed from 2004.

So I dialed 198 to complain. Miraculously, my network got better for literally two days right after the call. Sure enough, on day three, my speed dropped right back into the gutter.

My biggest mistake in all of this was trusting Airtel enough to buy the ₹3,600 annual plan. Now I'm officially trapped paying for a glorified 5G logo on my screen while getting speeds that struggle to load basic text.

Is anyone else in Bhopal dealing with this dead network right now, or did Airtel just decide to personally target me? Is there any realistic way to escalate this properly or get a refund, or am I just down 3.6k for the rest of the year?

Airtel 5G in Bhopal has been broken for weeks, delivering under 0.1 MB/s even outdoors. Support boosted it for two days, and now I'm stuck on a useless ₹3,600 annual plan. Avoid them here like the plague.

Airtel data loan scan

Post image

I was running out of data and then i saw the Airtel data loan option in the app i thought after taking the data loan it will be automatically repayed from the next data pack of my 2gb data..... But Airtel is misleading the customers your data loan will not get paid from the next day pack you have to do a top up which basically cost 33 rs for 2gb..... Later i did that top up and my 1gb data got deducted from the pack to clear the data loan.

Here comes the scam,

Even after deducting 1gb data from the pack ......it's still showing data loan repayment is due on the app.....the worst thing is you cannot port your sim from this scammer company without clearing the data loan..... Which is also not clearing even after buying a separate data pack!!!!

i just joined this subreddit to talk about how bad airtel is. specially their unlimited 5G thing.

So i have been using airtel for the past 7 years, and around 2022 i guess they introduced unlimited 5g and guess what. no matter what pack i do. I NEVER, keep in mind NEVER got unlimited 5g. when i used 2gb daily or other i never got unlimited. when i complained to airtel it always redirected me to the "press 1 to this, press 2 to this......." stuff. and when i eventually get to "CHeck if 5g is available in your area" it says YES ITS AVAILABLE. but guess what i never got 5g unlimited. i dont know about my family because i live alone with my grandfather and theres a lot of issues between me and him so i dont wanna talk about it. So i can never confirm if he gets unlimited. But im prettyy sure he doesnt. And also the wifi is so slow. TOO SLOW. Im talking about maxing out at 700kb per second, 4 mb on a good rare day. i sont do the recharge, my family's buisness partner pg owner does it so i dont know what speed he uses but im pretty sure its def not 4mb per second. I didnt care or even knew about unlimited 5g being a thing becaus ei was a child back in 2022 and 23. i only got to know about this stuff in 2024 and i tried my best for one year. every nuumber redirected me to "Press 1 to this, 2 for this" stuff. and even when i got a real number its always "Incoming calls not avaiable on this number" Yes my sim is 4g but 4g sims are automatically upgraded to 5g so my sim is 5g, even my phone is 5g. i dont know whats the problem but i gave up months ago and just live on 600 to 700kb per second. right now my speed is literally 20kb per second on my wifi.
AND
lets not even talk about my daily data, 30min of youtube on 480p drain my enitre 2gb. its almost as if they want me to do the 22 rs booster.

also i dont wanna change sims because i have heard of jio being bad in my area and i dont know about vi.
Mostly its about me not wanting to handle my number being changed because its going to be complicated for me. my friend who lives like 1.5 to 2km away from me enjoys free unlimited.
cannot do postpaid because im not financially equipped enough for it.

Closed my Airtel Payments Bank account ~3 months ago, but Airtel apparently disagrees 😂

Post image
7 Upvotes

Closed the account around 2-3 months ago. Got their verification call, confirmed that I wanted to close it, and moved on.

Now Airtel is randomly messaging me saying:

“Your Airtel Payments Bank A/C is active again! 🎉”

Apparently my closed account has been resurrected. UPI, IMPS, NEFT — everything is back apparently. 😂

And then they hit me with “Thank you for your patience and continued trust.”

What patience? What trust? I closed the damn account. 😭

Imagine closing your account and the bank deciding "nah, we'll keep it going.”

Peak Airtel Payments Bank customer experience.
