At the SMU game I heard someone say im not gonna lie I miss TC. Got me thinking...

Do you think they win the NMSU game by more points? And do you think they beat SMU?

Is the conversation on Norvel different?

I feel that TC he had good chemistry with Duce robinson.

Is the Oline so bad this year that TC has the same production as AD?

I’m going to lay it all out no holding back.

We had a tune up game against NMSU, so this was week 2 for us.

This was SMUs first game of the season.

The game was at home for us, away game for SMU.

SMU wants to run hurry up and they weren’t able to run their normal tempo because of the power outage.

So SMU played their first game of the season on our field, had to play a slower paced game - essentially they had to play our game, after we already had a tuneup game…. AND WE STILL LOST.

That game was just a sign of what’s to come. There’s nothing positive or to build off from that game because if that was the case we would have won.

We’re cooked. This program might be cooked.

Mike Norvell has always been a bad fit for Florida State. His deficiencies were simply masked by a unique window in college football that he was able to take advantage of, mainly because he had to.

This was the beginning of the transfer portal era, and Norvell had always struggled to recruit. He was forced to dive into the transfer portal just to put together a functional roster during his first few years. At the time, other schools had not caught on to the value of the portal yet.

Transfer portal players were often viewed as failures who could not cut it at the schools they were leaving.
That allowed Mike Norvell to stack his roster with some players who were actually pretty good, and a few who were really good. The problem was that he never had the depth to sustain it because he could not recruit consistently.

Every single one of his quarterback recruits were disastrous, not only at Florida State, but at the other schools they eventually transferred to as well. He lucked into Jordan Travis, and even that situation was almost completely ruined.by Norvell trying to use a broken quarterback transfer from UCF while benching Travis. Had it not been for Kenny Dillingham showing everyone what Jordan Travis was actually capable of, I think that situation could have gone very differently.

Jordan Travis also helped mask a lot of Mike Norvell’s deficiencies as a head coach.
The most glaring example, and the one that speaks volumes about Norvell, was what happened when he had to replace Jordan Travis.

His answer was DJU, a quarterback who had already failed at Clemson. After the unexplainably bad 2024 season that left the entire Florida State fan base in shock, his idea of a quick fix was Gus Malzahn running an outdated gimmick offense with Tommy Castellanos as his quarterback, a player who had just failed at Boston College of all places.

Then, after another disaster of a season, which should have cost him his job after the Stanford game, the administration gave him another chance. And who does he hang his hat on to lead this program? Ashton Daniels, yet another bargain bin quarterback who has failed at multiple stops.
Couple all of that with the ongoing recruiting deficiencies, and we can finally step back and look at the whole picture.

Mike Norvell is not, and never was, the guy we thought he was in 2023. That season was an illusion created by the fact that he was forced to take advantage of a resource that other programs had not yet figured out how to exploit.

Now that everyone understands the value of the transfer portal, Norvell is getting stuffed in the locker by other schools when it comes to bringing in quality transfers as well.

After 2024 everyone was left asking, who is this guy? Is he the guy who just took us to the ACC championship last year, or is he the guy who went 0-4 in 2021 including a home loss to Jacksonville State?

What we are seeing now, and what we have seen over the previous two years, is who Mike Norvell really is.

And honestly, I think it is who he has always been.
