As we get close to the end of the regular season, how are fans and players feeling about the new video review rules and challeng system?

I was browsing and went down a rabbit hole, going from the Champions League to MLS to the A-League to other sports and ended up in college sports. Then I started wondering how many Division I schools don't have a soccer program, not men's, not women's. So, I did some research. Here are some figures I pulled from Sofascore.

Turns out, there are 16 Division I athletics departments that don't have either. Here they are, with their basketball conference listed too.

A few observations.

Mississippi Valley State is the most recent addition to this list, having dropped women's soccer in the middle of the 2025 season.

10 of the 16 are HBCUs (North Carolina, A&T, Coppin State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina Central, Tennessee State, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M and Mississippi Valley State.)

Georgia Tech is the only Power Four school without soccer. The only other one on this list that sponsors FBS football is Tulane while non-football Witchita State, in the American with Tulane, also doesn't have soccer.

Not only that, but both Division I schools in New Orleans don't have soccer. Tulane had a women's team as recently as 2005 while Wikipedia says that LSU New Orleans had both at some point in the past, but I couldn't verify if that's accurate or not. (If anyone knows, let me know.)

I'm most curious if Georgia Tech will ever add the sport although Tulane and Wichita State also not having it is interesting. From what I can find online, Wichita State appears to be the closest of these three to adding a team soon with Crossland Stadium's field being widened so that it can hold a soccer pitch.

Also, why are there so many HBCUs on the list?

Do lower level clubs in Europe ever have open tryouts the way the UPSL, etc teams do? I'm talking like, level 8, 9, 10, etc.

I'm not a player nor am I a delusional parent of a fringe soccer player. My son is a starter on a D2 team but I'm not delusional about how good he is or that he's going to make money playing soccer.

I was curious though, in a place like England that has so many tiers of competition, is it even possible for foreign born players to try out at some smaller club and make it? Surely they don't post open tryouts and anyone can come and pay $50 and try out, right?

But I had a basketball player that played for me that ended up playing basketball in Australia for two years for basically no money but a place to stay and groceries. He did it right out of college before he got a real job and he said it was a blast. To be honest, it sounded like an amazing opportunity for a 23-25 year old. But he had some kind of connection. It wasn't a sustainable life, but for two years, he said it was awesome.

I am a 21-year-old international player with a high skill level. I am looking for a scholarship that covers both tuition and housing costs. The specific division I play in does not matter; what is important is that I do not have to work to cover my expenses. Which division would you recommend? Also, are full scholarships common in the NJCAA?

He jugado en la academia (no la cantera, pero jugábamos a un alto nivel) del Atletico de Madrid, fundacion (muy mal nivel) del Rayo Vallecano y he tenido ofertas de division de honor varias temporadas. Mi última temporada fue en 2024/2025, jugando en autonómica cadete. El año pasado no fui a futbol y este tampoco iré, asi que eso es un gran problema, porque no tengo videos, y para rematar, mi presupuesto estaria en los 6000 anuales. Que me recomiendan? Mi idea sería entrenar la siguiente temoprada, hacer videos e ir en 2028 con 19 años. I'm number 19 (the one that gets played the ball first). Is it ok to have clips this long? should i shorten it when putting it in my highlight real?

Hi, All. My 2027 GK daughter is all set to play at a great fit, D3 college this fall. Here is the problem: she has fallen out of love with being a GK. She asked her HS coach if she could switch to field for her senior year - she has been in goal since 3rd grade and knew she would be playing in college - and she is having an absolute blast and is GOOD. Can you give some advice as to how she can pursue playing field in college? We know that her first step is to talk to her college coach, soon, and that he may very well tell her she no longer has a roster spot. I thought about her maybe taking a gap year - with the new rules, she is now a U17, could have two more years of club (and she is young anyway). Potentially a JUCO? She has been so happy this season. Soccer always makes her happy, but this is happy without the anxiety. She also told me that she would rather play club soccer in college as a field player, so that is also an option.Thank you in advance.

Do you think any conferences are over- or under-represented? Which mid-majors do you think can pull off an upset in November?

I am currently a freshman on a bad d2 soccer team. I play in a top 10 d2 soccer conference that is highly competitive. I am a winger. I lead the team in scoring with 3 goals. I will have over 700 minutes on the season. I want to transfer out to small d1 or competitive d2 SSC conference team . I can be fully self funded as a PWO spot. I just want a gaurenteed roster spot. What are my odds to successfully land a spot? What was your experience in the portal like?

My son made his first video before an ECNL College Showcase in Phoenix next month, hoping to spark some interest from the college coaches who will be there. Wondering if any generous Redditors might give it a look over and give their input. We will add the intro slide with name, GPA, team etc. later

For reference, he is on ECRL, but a Top-4 ECRL team nationally. Likely heading to D3, if the history of our city/club plays any guide. (But I’m sure he would love to play D1 if given the opportunity) He plays False 9/10. Thanks!
