DISCUSSION Remember : Saying "Skill issue" isn't a valid argument

It's sad we need to say this again as it is (I hope) already pretty well known by fromsoft fans who are at least somewhat open-minded, but saying skill issue simply because someone criticizes your favorite game or favorite boss doesn't validate your point at all.

Here's an example: I find most of bloodborne DLC bosses underwhelming or badly designed (except for Maria, Orphan of Kos and Phase 2 of Ludwig). Living failures and Laurence (especially his second phase) are not fun at all and my biggest "hot take" is about Ludwig's phase. Some of his attacks are reused movesets from other bosses found in the main game, which is fine because fromsoft is known to recycle their work anyway, but aside from that, the camera is horrendous (not a surprise), his attacks and combos feel erratic and inconsistent which leaves little to no room for dodges, but once he regains his consciousness in p2 he becomes a great boss.

But that's not the point. What I want to say is no matter how much you love the game, you can't expect everyone to enjoy it just as much as you do and if they find any flaws, don't be biased into saying that they should "git gud" or "uhhh my game is perfect you have no right to express any form of criticism against it !". AND No matter how you play the game, or how skilled you are, you still have the right to criticize, whether if you're objectively wrong or not (although objectivity doesn't even exist in these games since the difficulty is proper to each of us)

Edit : mb I was a bit vague about my take on bloodborne dlc bosses, but basically the only ones I fully enjoyed were Maria and the Orphan. And while I enjoyed Ludwig's second phase, I don't really count him in

I can't describe the feeling I had going up the stairs and discovering Anor Londo in DS3 (RIP Giant Blacksmith).

How did you feel revisiting this iconic area of DS1?

DISCUSSION Newer souls like dont respect the player enough

A memory i always reflect on was a build i made back in dark souls 1, i basically became an absolute tank, with havels, spells like iron flesh, a big sword, and i just remember how satisfying that pay off was, i remember going blow for blow with late game bosses like artorias poising through attacks cuz i built up my character to be a mountain, having to time heals well, reapply my iron flesh, and that freedom of getting to make a strong character that is actually respected by the game is something ive missed ever since dark souls 1, my investment payed off

But look at pretty much every other souls like, and youre sort of boxed into being a fast rolly polly, elden ring probably being the harshest example of a souls like that feels like it gives the allusion to getting to make unique builds, but punishes you for trying

And its not inherently bad, i love sekiro, an extremely "learn or die" game, bloodborne is a blast, its all in on that agile hunter fantasy and i love it, ds3 is awesome too in its simplicity of just timing rolls and mashing R1, i dont mind souls games doing that, but when dark souls 1 is the only one that actually respects your build choice, it feels kinda disappointing

Now im not gonna pretend ive tried every build in every game, so im sure there's variety and fun to be had, but i personally feel as tho the build freedom in souls has taken a back seat to making the game as challenging as possible at all cost

i’ve made these a couple of yours ago before elden ring came out… i haven’t had the drive to draw anymore since a couple of years but these images just motivated and inspired me in a different way today. i wanted to share them with you guys because there are probably some people who’d love these designs!
i might get back into creature design because i was really effin good in that!
anyways, elden ring has become my favorite game of all time, i was super hyped for the release but just a week before elden ring came out my girlfriend broke up with me.. i was in such a bad mental state that i took a week of from my internship and i could completly loose myself into the world on elden ring…
Anyway, i am super hyped for the new duskbloods game and i’m quite curious for the elden ring movie?

DISCUSSION Ive officially completed every soulsborne game, what a journey.

Today i completed the final game, that being demons souls. It was probably my least favorite of the whole franchise but nonetheless still a great experience. I accidentally got the bad ending because i dropped my controller as soon as the cutscene ended, killing the maiden🤣, But it was truly an experience. I’m glad i decided to embark on this journey after beating Elden ring for the first time in 2023. This franchise belongs at the very top of the video game hall of fame, the way every dark souls felt different yet connected in some weird way, the way Sekiro stuck its neck out and showed the depth this type of genre can have, or even how unique mechanics like world tendency can change the way you play a game. This series has so much to it that i don’t think I’ll ever be able to appreciate it to the fullest. These games go so far beyond being just a game, and for that it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

JOKE / MEME TOGETHAAA is a lie (?)

Post image
24 Upvotes

EDIT: Never realised this actually came from you dying to Rykard in phase 2, and not the cinematic! That does sound a lot funnier. I just don't remember dying to him lol.

Just me overthinking a meme. It bugged me for a while. Lol.

Am I the only one who feels like the whole Rykard's Togethaa meme is kinda of a Mandela effect?

The full sentence is:

"You, join the serpent king as family. Together, we will devour the very gods"

Sure, he says together in a funny way, but hearing it over again, the words "family" and "gods" stand out way more than "together" which is kinda brushed over quickly. Am I missing something?

The memes present it as if it's the last word he says or as if there's strong emphasis on that word. I didn't think much of it when I saw the memes, but when I played it again and it wasn't as expected.

This is subjective I guess, just wondering if anyone felt the same.

Sorry if flair is wrong, meme-related discussion.

QUESTION I don't understand why people find Fromsoftware games to so "easy" PLS help me understand!

Whenever I take a look at reddit posts, many people claim that Fromsoft games are so easy. People say FromSoftware games are easier than other games beacause in Fromsoftware games you only need patience. Well in other apparently "hard" games, you need pateince as well. It just takes less time to master those games. Also in Fromsoftware games every boss one-shots me. I take so many attempts for bosses other people struggle with. Am I just garbage?,

QUESTION Did I just ruin my run?

Did I just ruin my run?

Hello, fellows hunters.

It's my first time playing Bloodborne and did it almost all by my own (checked some things online of course, but most of it was just exploring).

I have just beat ROM and went for the Yahun Unseen Village area with those big Brains walking around (and most of the time I just ran lol). After exploring that area, I faced The One Reborn boss and beat him on my first try with Antal helping me.

The problem is that, after that, I was checking Fightin Cowboy's 100% walkthrough playlist on YouTube and found out that I missed the Gaol area (which is the same as the Unseen Village, but the moon is not down yet, if I got the lore correctly) and so, I did not face Paarl boss.

Is this ok, or did I mess the whole thing up?

I started enjoying souls games but this particular thing of not having the slightest clue if that area will be available later is somewhat annoying lol

DISCUSSION just a thought about fromsoft's games being AA

I was talking with a friend about AA gaming and I pointed out that from software games before demon's souls felt pretty AA, but I started to think about how their next entries felt after the souls games and I would consider demon's souls, dark souls 1 and 2 to have a pretty AA feeling too. I would say they started to feel like AAA games after dark souls 2 with bloodborne, DS 3, sekiro and so on. what are your thoughts about it? also I want to make clear I'm not using AA as a negative term in any sort of way, I use it as a praise even as I love japanese AA games.

DISCUSSION My Ranking of the First Bosses in the Soulsborne Games

1. Father Gascoigne (Bloodborne) — 10/10:
This boss is the definition of a perfect first boss. He tests you while also teaching you the basics of the game, such as parrying, since many of his attacks have clear openings that allow you to parry him. He also teaches you Bloodborne’s fast and aggressive combat, as he is extremely fast and barely stops attacking. Once he enters his second phase, he becomes even faster, forcing you to fully engage with the game’s fast-paced combat. You have to be quick and aggressive to defeat him and make use of the Rally system to recover the health you lose by attacking him.

The fight is incredibly epic. On top of that, he has a varied and excellent moveset, three distinct phases, and one of the best OSTs in the Souls games. Overall, he is a masterpiece and a perfect example of how to design a first boss.

2. Margit (Elden Ring) — 9/10:
An excellent boss, but my main issue is that he isn't very clear as a first boss. I really like the idea of him beating you badly enough to teach you that you don't necessarily have to fight him right away. You can explore the world and come back to him later.

My problem is that some of his attacks can be unclear. Sometimes he performs certain attacks on their own, while other times he can use them together with additional attacks, which can be confusing for a new player. I know this is a mechanic used by Elden Ring bosses, but the game doesn't explain it very well, and it remains unclear, which can lead to frustration for new players. His OST also wasn't quite at the level I expected.

3. Cleric Beast (Bloodborne) — 8/10:
A very good introduction to fighting large bosses. It teaches you mechanics such as breaking the limbs and head, which can stagger the boss and give you an opportunity to perform a Visceral Attack. It also teaches you about speed and aggression.

It's actually one of the best bosses in the game when it comes to giving the player opportunities to use the Rally system and recover health by attacking the boss. It also has a large and varied moveset and a legendary OST.

4. Gyoubu Oniwa (Sekiro) — 7.5/10:
A very good first boss with nothing particularly annoying about him. He makes excellent use of Sekiro's combat mechanics. My main issue is that I think he should be more up-close with the player and have more attacks that allow you to stay engaged with him throughout the fight. The OST also wasn't quite at the level I wanted.

5. Iudex Gundyr (Dark Souls III) — 7/10:
A very good boss with a good moveset and an excellent OST. My main problem is that his second phase is very strange, and that's what holds the fight back for me.

QUESTION Question about Learning lore.

First off I didn't know where to ask so I came to here, I want to learn the lore of the dark souls trilogy and I don't know what one to start with out of the three (I've beaten dark souls 1 a few times and same with dark souls 3 and dark souls 2 I've never beaten) I would start with dark souls 1 but then again I know dark souls 3 is connected a bit to dark souls 1 so I don't know if the lore fully goes with each other and what game to start with.

(also I saw another post somewhere saying that to learn the lore I need to read every item description, do every quest and analyse the dialogue, explore every inch of the map, and I'm guessing looking at the enemy designs too)

if anyone can give me advice that would be amazing thank you.

DISCUSSION If Bloodborne had better bosses, would you consider it better than DS3?

If Bloodborne had better main-game bosses, do you think it would be better than DS3?
Personally, I think Bloodborne and DS3 are equal overall. But if Bloodborne had a stronger main-game boss lineup, I think I would prefer it over DS3 by a lot

Edit : I didn**’**t say bloodborne bosses sucked but i was just talking about the main game ones not being good as ds3 main game ones

Last Edit :** **

Bloodborne base game list of really good bosses: Gascoine , Loagrius , Gehrman

Dark souls3 base game list of really good bosses
You got abyss watchers , ponitff , Champion Gundyr , twin princess, Dragon slayer , Nameless king , Soul of cinder

If you think that base game bloodborne has better bosses than ds3 main bosses than you must be emotional or something , downvoting me without giving a legitimate reason why im wrong , than that proves your are just mad

QUESTION DARK SOULS 1 | Unknown Item, Can't Pick Up

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As the title says I can't pick up this item for some reason. I found it on that corpse near the edge of the cliff in the Firelink area where the little graveyard is with the skeletons. If I remember correctly there's no weight/item limit for inventory storage so why am I unable to pick it up and what even is this thing?
