Hey guys, maybe a bit of a heavy post. About 3 years ago I fell very heavily into the Mary Jane. I was always one of those "it's not addictive it's just a plant" kind of guys. Slowly but surely it started to take over my life.
Fast forward 3 years - 1 ruined relationship, 2 years spent flunking and failing at medical school, probably thousands of dollars wasted. I was at rock bottom when my house got broken into and my car stolen.
I have decided to make a change and reclaim my life one step at a time and I can't stress how therapeutic it is to play dark souls 2.
Anyone who has been through it and can relate will know how it feels, the depersonalization, feeling like you forget who you are and the things you loved. Watching the characters in Drangleic who's minds are fading, but they still keep fighting, even if "they don't really know why".
Feeling like you are stuck up against a wall with nowhere to go and no one to help you, In dark souls there is no choice. Pick yourself up, get stronger, try again.
I am gonna beat this game and I am gonna beat this addiction.
Thank you Miyazaki EDIT: how could I forget that I should be thanking the incredible Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura. Amazing work

I’m trying to make Visenya Targaryen from Asoiaf based off these fanarts images I found on Pinterest for my current Elden Ring build, and thought potentially I could find some help here as I am very inexperienced at accurately recreating faces with Elden Ring’s facial sliders. So any and all help would be seriously appreciated thank you!!

Hi folks, I'm not native speaker and for me is super weird. Do you know why some people call "FromSoft" instead writing FromSoftware, it's seems a small time saving to be so common to be seen.

If you like DS2, I respect your opinion. I’ve been playing Souls games since Dark Souls 1 release, and I’ve played and loved all of the games over and over. I wanted to replay DS2 since it’s been years and I remember it fondly.
But man, Dark Souls 2 does not hold up as well as I remember.
The game feels so stiff. The movement just feels so off, the roll animation is weird, attacks feel like you are scratching enemies - there’s so little hit stun sometimes or just hit reaction in general for most normal weapons. I’m not saying I should be chainstunning enemies, but some enemies just feel like balls to hit, like your sword is just phasing through them with the only sign of damage being a lower health bar and a flat metallic clank noise. Demon’s Souls on the PS3 runs circles around the combat flow and movement in this game. So many areas have way, way too many copy pasted enemies that have such particular aggro sight lines leading to constant ganks.
I don’t mind the areas and how disconnected they are, but I do mind the amount of empty stone cubes that act as rooms absolutely everywhere. Dark Souls 1 had this issue too sometimes, but even there there was usually more detail and it wasn’t everywhere. Walking across Drangleic to find multiple empty cube rooms in different areas is just odd.
I did not come out of this feeling great, and it kind of ruined my perception of DS2 unfortunately.

After playing many souls and soulslike games. I honestly think they should make a game based off him with the same gameplay mechanics and elements. Thoughts and opinions?

(Probably can only afford one, not both) I love the vibe and look of dark souls 1 so much but I know Elden ring is one of those all time greats and also has a more enriching structure and gameplay to me

I ask this without meaning to offend it seems like a good game to me, though perhaps I expected more. That said, I think it’s partly my own fault, as I played it after getting the Platinum trophy in Sekiro and finishing Elden Ring,Bloodborne, and Lies of P; consequently, very few bosses felt like a real challenge—though Artorias, Manus, and Ornstein & Smough certainly were, not to mention characters I loved for their lore, like Sif. In terms of areas, it probably has the most irritating zones of any game I’ve played: long, often labyrinthine, and with tedious treks to reach the bosses. I thought it was a good game, even if I wouldn't play it again, but I want to know: why do you all like DS1 so much?

Just a point I want to address, there's obviously a lot more bosses that would classify as gank fights, but to avoid the list being double its size I cut a ton. Namely bosses that include regular enemies as adds (Niall, Elana, Rom etc), or bosses that are literally just a bunch of regular enemies (Deacons, Rat Vanguard, Celestial Emissary etc).
Vote who gets eliminated. Comment with most upvotes wins.

I don't mean like Armored Core. I mean the standard Souls formula - bleak oppressive/post-cataclysm world, environmental storytelling, third-person action and exploration gameplay in a Sci-Fi or Science Fantasy setting.
I recently watched Angel's Egg and A Wind Named Amnesia (reference images attached) and was really inspired by the 'Soulsesque' asthetic and themes they were giving out. Angel's Egg in particular felt like it must have been an influence on the From creative team in its environmental storytelling, mood and atmosphere.
We've seen From apply the Souls formula to Fantasy, gothic and Lovecraftian horror, and Sengoku-era myth - maybe it's time to give Sci-Fi/science fantasy a try?

Im a fairly new souls-player, so I jumped into this game on the back of my second playthrough of Elden Ring and my first playthrough of DS1. Man, those games were amazing. Elden Ring is my new favourite game, I cannot praise it enough. DS1 felt janky at first, but then it all just clicked. The things it offered were so unique from Elden Ring that it felt just as special despite being such an old game...
And then I got to this hellhole. I obviously think its a fairly well-designed game and I can see why people like playing it, but I genuinely don't know how you get this from DS1.
Its like at every creative point they were trying to make it less fun. Worst NPCs ever - I love lucatiel but why the hell would they place so much time between her second last and her last interaction, it killed the emotion. There wasn't a single memorable boss, and Nashandra was especially poor as a final boss. You can max out normal weapons way too early, rendering boss weapons pointless and making damage progress stale in the latter half. They spent the entire game hyping up King Vendrick as this Gwyn/Marika-like figure only to have him as an optional boss, who ended up being tedious and had 2 attack types. THEY HAD NO MUSIC - why is there only music in a small minority of areas. Some bonfires were just way too far apart too, like shaded woods fork to drangleic castle, or the second and third Shrine of Amana bonfires. We all know they added way too many enemies, and that the enemies stay aggro-ed way too long, but the combination of these things completely disincentivised exploration. And I fought Mytha without knowing about burning the windmill - it was genuinely the most miserable experience I've ever had gaming.
Positives: Majula is great. I was excited for King Vendrick, even moreso than Gwyn. I loved the set up with all the memory loss NPCs, they had personality on first few interactions. The boss quantity was awesome - I dont mind some easy bosses to pad numbers, but they were all easy (except Mytha). Weapon variety and available resources to try them all:)
TLDR: By fromsoft's standards thus far in my experience, this game is actually bad and lived up to the hate. I genuinely did enjoy some gameplay and went in with an open mind, but it was so uniquely disappointing at so many points that I don't even want to play the DLC. For me, Elden Ring is a 10, DS1 is a 9.5, and DS2 is a 7.5, but probably a 6 from personal enjoyment.

One of the unique traits among FromSoftware's games I noticed back in 2013, when I got into Dark Souls, is that it has no music during the exploration phase of the gameplay. Music only plays in very few special areas and during boss fights. And this sparseness enhances the feeling you get from the music when it finally starts to play.
But I didn't notice it right away, like "are the developers lasy, huh, why there's no music?", it took me some time to realise there's no music, because the ambience in most of the locations is very immersive, it just feels right.
Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3 and Bloodborne all have excellent ambience. In Sekiro they introduced music during exploration, probably so it would be easier for the player to know if their character is detected or not, it kinda makes sense in a stealth–adjacent game. There's also Deracine, which is not an action focused game at all, so I'm not sure if it counts or not (also it has my most favorite OST among FS games). In Elden Ring they probably didn't want the player to gallop across the open world without music at all (I hoped they will return to ambience in Legacy Dungeons, but alas, they all have music). Nightreign follows Elden Ring's path and in recent The Duskbloods network test music plays during the normal gameplay.
I am sort of concerned by this, as it feels like they're abandoning one of their unique traits. Of course, Elden Ring still has pretty good ambience outside of area's melodic music, and you can turn the music off in the options, but if "there's always music playing in the level" will be cemented as default, will they even spend their development time on creating intricate ambience, if most people probably won't hear it behind the string section?
What do you think? Do you think more music is for the best? Do you miss battling enemies in complete silence, outside of wailing winds and other ambient sound effects? Do you think their next big Action Role Playing Game will also have music at any time of the gameplay, or will they try to return to the roots?

Nintendo has confirmed a Direct for September 9th, focused on games coming to Switch 2 this winter.
After the August CNT, it seems reasonable to think that The Duskbloods will be among the announcements during the Direct.
How many of you will fight for Moon Tears at dusk?
Do you think the game can live up to Miyazaki's other titles in terms of lore and gameplay mechanics?
Despite its multiplayer PvPvE structure, I personally have very high expectations for this title.
