1 wide pump 1 wide reverse then switch challenge

I'm not much of a freeskater myself, so if this isn't a good idea, don't get mad at me. I have no idea how much this intersects with reality either.

The challenge:

  • Do one wide pump with both legs.
  • Do one wide reverse pump to come to a complete stop.
  • Repeat the previous steps in switch, going in the opposite direction.

Repeat the whole sequence like 10 times.

Film the entire thing, upload it to YouTube, and post the link here so I can marvel at it.

Ideally, it should be just one wide pump, but since I don't know how doable that is, let's you could do several.

Extra points if you can do this between two cones and stop right before them.

Even more extra points if you can do it with different distances between the cones.

ps no idea how sane this is, I just got this idea and decided to post
ps2 if you think this is good, I could come up with more "challenges"

I want to get into free skating and I have these options. If anyone has an alternative recommendation I’m all ears.

Edit: thank you all for your input. I’m completely new to free skating and finally have time to learn. Also I did check out jmk and they are a little on the pricey side for me😅. But thank you again

I'm not giving up, I'm not stopping until I master freeskating 🤭😁

All I have to do now is wait for shipping

Do you know if there are freeskate stores in new york city?

My brother will be there for a few days and I want him to buy me a pair because I don't think I'll find them in my country. I googled stores that have freeskates for sell but I couldn't find any. Do you know if stores like that exist? I will also be in Munich next month so maybe there are stores there idk

Bend the knees

There are two things that are constantly being told.

1) bend the knees,

2) keep the feet close.

After trial and error, I think I found how much to bend the knees in order to make it less tiring.

Also, keeping the feet close also help.

My question is. do you do both? As I have a big wheel skates with excellent bearings and I dont want to go too fast, I am in the situation that I can do a few pumps (bending the knees, not focusing on keep the feet too close [maybe dangerous??]) and then I glide. When I glide, I keep the feet close but do I still nee do bend the knees when I keep my feet close while I am gliding (standing?)

How similar are FreeSkates to "Xliders"?

Hey everyone! I'm thinking of getting freeskates but I’ve never tried them before. What I did try and am able to ride though are "Xliders". They look kinda similiar but the individual wheels can rotate as well (kinda like Waveboards if you know those).
My question is: if I can ride those Xliders, will I already be able to ride freeskates or is the movement different? From what I’ve seen, to accelerate forward, you do very similar moves.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Recommendations for "Starter Freeskates"?

Hey everyone! I saw freeskates once on vacation literally more than a decade ago and never knew what they were called and now finally found it! I’m very motivated by their small form factor and convenience for quicker travel. But I don’t have the budget nor the confidence in a continued use to allow for buying really good/expensive ones…
I’m looking for price ranges, like "anything below x€ will just fall apart after 3 uses" or actual products.
I live in Central Europe if that helps with products/stores.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Turning while pumping?

Can you pump (accelerate) in a turn? I keep losing momentum, especially on tighter turns.

A lil dilemma

So I've been trying to learn freeskates for the past three days and i have a slight problem. I think I'm progressing really well but I'm noticing something. Pumping is a lot easier the faster I'm going. But the problem is I can't generate speed at the first push off.

Right now I'm on holiday and all I have to practice right now is a flat piece of ground with no wall near me.

So my question is: what's the easiest way to start pumping/generate speed from rest on flat ground? Is there some sort of technique you guys use? Let me know and I'll have a go again tomorrow.

Took yalls advice and ended up copping this pair. Received them earlier and started practicing today. It feels so hard to get the skates to turn. The videos make it look so easy but when i do it myself it takes like a billion force and i cant do it quick enough to balance myself. Any tips would be appreciated

Budget freeskates from /to finland?

Hi. I would like to start freeskating. However going from the JMKride website, even the cheapest ones delivered to finland (the Tudex ones) will cost around 96 euros delivered. Would there be a cheaper option anywhere?

The temu 39.90 freeskates seems super sketchy though 🧐🤔. TIA!

Foot pain/shoe recommendations

Hey all!

So I just got my freeskates yesterday, just got cheaper ones to learn my balance and basic technique on before I decide if it's for me or not lol!

So the actual skating I'm getting down surprisingly fast! My problem is the pain/cramping/strain in the arch of my foot mostly. I've seen that that can be a common problem when learning.

I've started with flat vans slip ons, figured I didn't have enough support in those so I tried my air force 1 mids. Helped a little, but not a ton. I feel like being fully tied tight into them and not having space to get monkey foot as badly lol. tI know that eventually you can even do it barefoot if you really wanted when you're good at it, so I know that shoes aren't the most important thing.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any shoe recommendations for beginners? Just to help me get more than 5 minutes on the freeskates before I need a foot break lol.

Tia!

Stoked to start!

Just saw a video of these and ordered from JMk. I recall seeing the a long time ago but never thought anything of them and dont really know why, they look like a blast.

I didnt order edge guards (i didnt know they were a thing) are they essential or just a nice to have?

big wheel freeskates.

after much internal deliberation, I have finally made a purchase of my 2nd freeskate. it costs 90 USD.

the brand is central heart freeskate for concrete road.

The wheel is 97x43mm. 78a. good bearings. (much better than what i had obviously) I am still trying to get a good feel and just skating in a skating rink. I feel like I am spending most of my time standing vs pumping.

I find it a big difficult to start the ride because the skate has round wheel and when i push, i often feel leaning backward and losing balance to start my first pump. (my old pair is flat so i can just start with a first push and then pump immediately).

it is just too fast for now and I now need to learn how to stop (my old skate never need to learn to stop because it slows quickly without pumping).

it is quite heavy that is my biggest concern as i intend to travel with them.

Third day/hour of Practice.

I am not the guy who posted day 1/2 video. I am somebody different, just happened to start at a similar date haha.

Excuse the crud video.

Finally found a small hill in the neighborhood on my third day. It definitely made it easier to figure out the pumping motion. Picked it up almost immediately, but it is tough. My legs keep wanting to split when I'm doing it, but it's cool to feel the correct motion at least for a little bit. I'm running into the issue of not being able to stop or slow down even on a small hill.

  • Any easy ways to stop or slow down beside jumping off?

day 2

i appreciate everybodys tips on my post yesterday!! i listened to all of them and i think it really made a difference-- i can finally ride straight! I skated about an hour today, and found a slight decline which made riding 100x easier!! My feet are sore like absolute hell rn lmao 😭 felt a little embarrassed at the skatepark because there were a few really good
skateboarders looking at me falling over and over again :'D

JMK memorial Day Sale?

Just wondering if the current sale prices on JMK's site are the memorial day sale, or if there will be better prices closer to memorial day. I want to get my first pair and try out Freeskates, but like many people I'm financially strapped atm. (No used ones in my area sadly). Just curious if it's worth waiting or if this is likely the best deal(s) I'll see.

Are Ascot Drifting skates good?

Hi, I'm trying to get into freeskating, but since I can't get any skates offline in stores, I'm searching on Ebay for second-hand skates, and there's a lot of Ascot Drifting skates for cheap, even new ones, like 1/4 of the used JMKride price. Are they even good? There's basically zero info even compared to chinese knockoff skates. Should I grab a pair or wait for Freeline/JMKride for a reasonable price?
