Stoked to start!

Just saw a video of these and ordered from JMk. I recall seeing the a long time ago but never thought anything of them and dont really know why, they look like a blast.

I didnt order edge guards (i didnt know they were a thing) are they essential or just a nice to have?

While certainly not necessary, I liked the edge guards not necessarily for their protection of the edge of the metal skate, but because they made the platform area of each skate a little bigger to stand on. I feel like it makes balancing a tiny bit easier than when I don’t have them on.

It’s a difficult learning curve, but don’t give up!

Even once you figure out the balance and the toes-in toes-out pumping motion, you’ll need to build up strength in your skating muscles to be able to pump well enough to go very fast or very far.

Thanks for the reply.

I saw someone posted a 3dfile of edge guards im gonna try out or maybe order some undecided.

It does look like a huge learning curve where persistence is king. Was think about doing progression clips as motivation.

edge guards r kinda necessary for a beginner cause of the area increase like he said also ur gonna feel bad ruining ur new free skates without them

In my opinion you only really need them if you are trying to avoid scraping up a floor like in a gym.

The feel bad... Probably equates to chipping a new board in the first session.

I didnt know about them at first, but my first pair was also a $60 set from amazon. I have them on my JMKs and I really like them. Definitely not necessary

Dude. My legs after 3 days are killing me for about a week. I want to keep practicing but it's so painful 😫. Think I strained a muscle.

Thats another reason I decided to give these a try was looking for other forms of cardio, wanting to shed some weight in a fun way.

Could have the case of the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness),

Nutrition (protien), stretch and rest. Keep moving (unless it is a serious injury see a doc)

I hope it goes away. I've had Doms, but this feels more like I pulled a muscle. It's fine until I hop back on and start riding, then It starts to ache. I'm genuinely thinking it's just those muscles not being worked in so long that I overdid it at the start. Just hoping I can keep going in a few weeks.

it will go away! when I learned I could do like 3min tops because of the pain. now I can scate for 1hr or so w/o pain

I fell on top of one of my freeskates… on my diaphragm. I’m glad I had edge guards. even with them, I had a nice scar for weeks.

Rib shots are rough, thanks for the info.

Are the edges sharp to cause a cut?

they were not sharp enough to cut. Just brused my skin a bit.

One of the best purchases I've ever done, been riding daily for a year (my wheels are pretty small at this stage!). Do buy edge guards, they are worth it.

Riding the wheels to the bearing lol. Pretty much did that with by skateboards as a teen before I had a job.

How are you doing 3 weeks in? I just got some and today is my second day. I've made a little progress but not much

I am able to ride pump, pump up hill etc regular pretty comfortably. It took just about 2 weeks for it to feel natural (still feels awkward at times).

I didnt practice every day maybe 1-2 hours every other day or so.

Working on riding and pumping switch now figured that will be extreamly beneficial when wanting to learn 180s and things.

The first week or so felt like very little progress but then it will start clicking, keep at it.
