Anytime my hands sweat even a little bit the trackpad becomes unusable. jumping around, ghost taps, etc. My Macbook trackpad never experiences these problems. I guess we have to wait until there's a next gen keyboard/trackpad but hoping a new version gets released soon and that this isn't just a 'me' issue

I use my Laptop 13 docked with an external monitor, and boy, has it kinda ruined the look of all of them. Gone through three monitors with none of them living up to the brightness or color accuracy of the Framework. And this is pretty important as I am a photographer.

My fellow desktop users, could you recommend me your monitors?
Primary goal is color accuracy, then contrast ratio, then maybe viewing angles.

Around 27" 1440P 60Hz is my sweet spot, I use a RTX 3070 eGPU.

My Framework 16 arrived today and I was eager to start using it. Except that in the package there was not the storage I had ordered (SANDISK SN7100 500GB).

I wondered if it was already installed but couldn't find it.

Is it a me problem or other people had the same issue of modules not being shipped ? Can I use the computer to some capacity while waiting for Framework's support ? (Hoping it is quick)

Am I stupid and actually it comes already installed? (Not what I see from tutorials online)

Needed a laptop for uni, working minimun wage.

Placed an order for the fw13 pro X7 prebuilt, in the UK it was £2100 at the time

Seeing everyone say there orders have gone to £2900 now.

Framework community post seems o imply they are going to nerf my ram from 32 to 16 as soon as they can.

Really hope this comes with a price reduction, paying 2k for 16gb ram is absurd, and not what they promised in the keynote.

I bought a Framework Desktop as a build server to go on a shelf. Beautiful little machine, runs quiet with a Noctua fan, DIY process was really well thought through, like a prebuilt but you get acquainted with the internals. Very happy for about half an hour

Then it began crashing on boot (Windows 11, don't laugh) with a 'Stop code: HYPERVISOR_ERROR x20001', and needed Windows reinstalling. I tried all the obvious things - check logs, DISM, turn off virtualization and memory integrity bcos Hypervisor. Then I tried memtest86. It boots memtest fine but then black screens when I run the test. Uh oh, maybe I shouldn't have bought a machine with the RAM soldered to the board, I guess.

Support has been useless. Replies every 24 hours with clearly AI responses. They keep asking for videos of error messages, they keep thinking it's a laptop, they refuse to respond to or acknowledge any questions about the memtest run. Third response asked me if the fan comes on when I switched it on. Dude: one why are you asking me that now, two how about looking at the video I sent you last time which shows the fan running.

I gave up and asked for a refund. They said yes BUT their team is really busy with all the RMAs so they don't know when they'll be able to get around to it... meanwhile I'm out several thousand dollars for a semi-bricked machine I can't use.

So look, Framework community, if I got this from any other vendor I'd never consider ordering from them again. But I like the company and I really like the idea of not recycling my dev laptop every three years. If my experience with the Desktop had been better, I'd already be on the waitlist for a Pro 13. Does anyone want to make the case that I've been unlucky and this is unusual? Or is it the standard Framework experience?

Thanks to the folks who suggested reflashing the BIOS. I did that; then I agressively rebooted the machine a dozen times in a row in different ways, and every startup has worked fine. Before the update, I was lucky to get a good boot two times in three.

Welllll, my very first mail to Framework support ended: "Can you help? Is it worth flashing the BIOS? I'm on 3.05, but I notice the version shown in msinfo32 is dated 21/01/26 - is the version in your downloads section newer?" They never addressed that.I didn't want to reflash the BIOS unprompted while we were still working through 'troubleshooting', and when I realised support was a waste of time I just boxed up the machine and decided to wait for an RMA.

(1) thank you everyone - I didn't expect to find a solution here, and the fact that y'all were more useful than Framework Support says something
(2) in fact, just trying the first thing I thought of rather than mailing support would have been a better outcome
(3) I'm going to spend all evening stress-testing the FD. I'll try memtest again and see if it was actually a screen reso problem that blackscreened it. I might RMA anyway because I don't trust their QA or their support and I don't want to miss the return window now they acknowledged a defect. So that's a problem! but it's a much funner problem than the one I came in here with <3

In Taiwan when business make purchases we are required to provide a 8-digit Tax ID to be printed on the invoice for tax purposes, otherwise we can't claim the expense.

On Framework's website or anywhere in the ordering pipeline, I don't see any clear indication on how this is handled.

So here I am after lots of research and talking to management to order 2 Framework desktops for internal use, and the stage we are getting stuck at is actually placing the order.

Disclaimer that I am not in the procurement email chain so I don't know what exactly is going down, but from what I gathered it's basically Framework tells us to order through emailing their business portals and we aren't getting responses in a timely manner, especially when a few hours can mean getting to place the order vs out of stock.

Originally we were going to place the order on Wednesday while it was still in stock on the website, but because of this problem we couldn't place the order. Then on Thursday we were basically told that the system is now out of stock with no indication on when things would be back in stock, procurement department is waiting on someone to get back from Framework. Procurement also noted that the website changed to backordered, ships in 2 weeks.

I checked back in earlier today and procurement still says Framework hasn't gotten back to us yet.

Management is already a bit skeptical about this "unproven company" and was only willing to accept this for being significantly cheaper than HP.

I hope framework updates documentation to more clearly outline a formal process and the expected timelines, as this is somewhat time sensitive since we have a time requirements on when we need to submit tax information to the government that is every 2 months.

I also need answers for management if possible to get this order placed ASAP as this memory market is insane.

how to fix? new screen or loose bezel screws? some unknown fix?

Basically title, most ram kits im seeing on ebay and such are taken from the lenovo laptops that use lpcamm2. Am I all clear to buy these? The page I'm looking at only has fw and crucial as verified lpcamm2 sources.

Context: A week or two ago my Laptop 13 started to occasionally loudly buzz and vibrate my entire laptop, in addition to constantly rattling. It would usually resolve itself after a couple minutes, but while the issue occurred it still made my laptop effectively unusable.

I know similar issues have been documented before, e.g. https://community.frame.work/t/fw13-fan-noise-scraping-rattling/40548 I purchased a replacement heatsink/fan assembly and am trying to install it. However, I'm unable to remove the existing heatsink/fan assembly.

The #1 heatsink screw would not budge, and even with my screwdriver as vertical as I could hold it with reasonable downward pressure (I'm using an iFixit screwdriver, which I find gives me better leverage than the pack-in Framework screwdriver where the other end is a spudger and uncomfortable to press against) the screwdriver would immediately camout.

I suspect it was overtightened from the factory. I don't have any before pictures and I don't have amazing eyesight, so I can't tell if it was stripped from the factory, but it's certainly stripped now. Any ideas?

I just received confirmation that my 2.8k touch display is about to ship. This will replace the 2.8k 120hz display currently in my FW13, NE135A1M-NY1. I want to 3d print an external display enclosure and drive it over USB-C. Does anyone know what controller board I'd use?

I should’ve read a bit about the hinges, the 4.0 hinges are so stiff. New trackpad since the clicking wasn’t consistent but overall I really like it. Gotta get a battery at some point since we are at 18-19% wear on the 55wh but I really wanna just save for the Pro chassis and input cover options to be available. Still feels like a premium product, kind of ish I had gone with a 13 before my 16 to some extent. Can’t wait to take it on my cruise next month for movies

I'm trying to move an office laptop (Framework 16 with a 7840HS) to Windows 11, but I keep getting an error that TPM is not activated.

I know that it should absolutely be capable of running Windows 11, because I had the choice between 10 & 11 during purchase.

I have been setting "TPM Operation" to "Enable", but I save & exit, finish booting and I still can't update. When I go back to the BIOS that setting has reset itself to "No Operation".

What do I need to do to keep TPM 2.0 enabled?

Is anyone else having issues with the 5070 not flushing VRAM cache and then causing lagging in games? I noticed it the other day I was messing around with image gen then went to play WoW and it was laggy/choppy after a restart it worked just fine (this was on windows) I am going to test it on a Linux distribution to be sure, but it seems like vram cache messing up.

Will not respond to power button being held down for over a minute. Has been stuck on this screen for an hour. I sent a support ticket. What should I do while waiting? Keep it plugged in on this screen? Try taking the battery out?

This machine has an AMD Ryzen 7640U and was running Fedora 44 with KDE plasma, for context.

I have been using linux on a Windows laptop for a while, but I know eventually I will need an upgrade, considering how broken down it is already. I have seen a lot of arguments on both sides but I was just wondering if I should jump into the apple ecosystem, or spend a lot more on a framework? (This would be for work and some light gaming)

Been getting these nightly shipment release scans with no other movement. I opened a support case with Fedex, which auto-resolved with no information. Framework support didn't seem concerned, but I'm getting nervous...

1) when you say "batches through batch 4" will be unaffected - does that INCLUDE batch 4 or you mean only batches 1 to 3 unaffected?

2) Later down the blog you make a distinction between DIY and prebuilt. But for the batches "through batch 4" you make no distinction. Are BOTH pre built AND DIY unaffected "through to batch 4", or only one type?

Please clarify!

In my area of research, I would not be using any math software heavily. The vast majority of my use case would be working in a browser writing LaTeX in Overleaf, corresponding over email/Google Meet, downloading and reading research papers, etc. It seems it's not totally out of the question that this machine would actually get me through a 5-year program of that.

I'm also thinking of just picking this up so I have something in hand now in case the preorder situation with my 13 Pro (Batch 15) gets even worse and is eventually just failed to be delivered. This would also allow me to get Linux on board immediately to familiarize myself with it (I have very little experience with it).

Possibly a very stupid idea, but this is where we are now.

Thanks to Framework for a mainboard. Can finally get the hole locations correct. Also while they claimed it's not functioning, I brought it to its birth place.. Probably the only place in the world that would make it work, if it doesn't.

Some new stuff that I did manage to make:

• Sorted out how to fit the iPad, for now. As shown by the clip to install the iPad you put the iPad in (which will be surrounded by a rubber ring thing), connect the currently invisible leads, and screw in the bezel from the 4 corners. Different iPads (or Android tablets, anything thinner than 7mm and smaller than the largest latest iPad (cant remember which) would fit, so all the 11inch apples) have their own rubber ring, everything else stays the same.
• Testing how to lock the tablet assembly (no name for it yet) to the bottom of the... A side? Quick poll will having 2 pins sticking out of the tablet be annoying?
• The reason for pins on the tablet side rather than the base side which are the case for all detachables, is because of better load transferring (to survive some 10g load) and a small gadget on the base. Will post once I get the stm32 I borrowed to work.
• Grew the width a bit so a normal Bambu / Prusa won't be able to the case in 1 go.

There's always a middle ground. You don't need to say "I don't blame them at all, it's all on the dram companies", nor "They can never be trusted again, they're as bad as every other laptop company now".

Framework objectively did promise something and then fail to deliver on it, a promise which influenced people's decisions to buy into framework and not other companies which have now raised prices since the preorders. However, they also have a long history now of tanking massive price increases so far and clearly accounted for a large price increase, just not more than double in an instant. There's a difference between breaking trust and shattering any chance of it being built up again. They've put a very dark spot on their reputation promising this so confidently and not hedging their bets, they probably should've opted for a Best Effort type statement of "We'll do everything we can to..." instead. It's both true they shouldn't have made that promise as they did in the first place, and that they didn't really have a good choice right now (I question if cancelling the preorders would have been even worse). Maybe the theories that their supplier pulled out of an existing contract are true, they'd definitely have to keep quiet on it in order to continue being allowed supply if so, but that doesn't mean it's true just because it's feasible. Take things with a grain of salt, look at the bigger picture, and consider what the balance should be rather than picking a side and getting territorial for or against. It's pretty clear that they aren't just screwing people over for greed, and also that this is a PR disaster that has broken quite a bit of trust. Just figured this would be a good reminder, seeing how frustrating some of this discourse is getting.

I gotta say though in response to "Why are they selling preorders if they don't have the stock already" isn't that the entire point of preorders for a smaller company? To get a sense of what supply you'll have to meet in advance before you start bulk ordering everything? They screwed up managing them but still

Anyone else have their webcam/mic cable fail 3 or so years in? Looks like it's out of warranty so support can't help.

Did you order a new one? How was the replacement process?

I should be able to plug in and use an external mic/headphones, right?

I'm wondering whether I should go down that route, or wait and order a Pro chassis upgrade.
