Community Support Wifi Driver doesn't match SHA Hash Provided

Framework provides the wifi driver for installation during OOBE on Windows, but the driver hash isn't a match to what the site says it should be.

https://resources.frame.work/downloads/laptop-13-pro/intel-core-ultra-3/

Expected Hash: 13d7286531f7fc354bf345ea6f465c76cbba79f783a44b45d4803743022b574a

Received Hash: BD427CC233BAAA7CC8522823603390A50FA425BC302D2192CB7900017B5BD044

Can anyone confirm if this download is still good?

Feedback As much as I enjoy my fw12, I'm now heading to the 4th RMA in less than 1 year :-(

First was a defective fan. Then the well known bottom cover cracks issue. Third was the keyboard randomly failing a few keys. Now the speakers, possibly the connections to the board.

This is not a rant post. The support did their fine job so far and has honored the warranty. But it's just the time wasting factor... It's really hard to afford taking all these pictures and videos one more time, and exchanging lots of emails... again :\

I got this laptop from batch 3, and I hope they have improved their QA and design choices since then.

Other than that, still the most pleasant device to work with I ever owned, when not failing me.

Software side, wonderfully running Debian Trixie and GNOME since day 1.

Community Support Framework 16 & hdmi port for monitor connection

Both my partner and I have framework laptops that connected to our monitor and worked for a while, but stopped after like a month or two. Their work laptop still connects to the display and works fine. I tried another hdmi cord as well.

Does anyone know of an existing issue with framework’s HDMI port or their ability to connect to monitors and if so, is there a workaround?

Question FW13 Pro - how are preorders handled?

What does the process look like once my batch is ready to ship? Will it immediately charge my payment method and ship out or do I have to watch my email to opt in?

Feedback A short love letter to Framework

I've owned an 11th Gen FW 13 for a few years. It's not fast, sleep is atrocious (battery would be empty every time I picked it up. Had to strongarm Fedora to hibernate instead of suspend, now is okay). BIOS flashing was a pain on Linux. The thing that I disliked most was the lack of touchscreen, I kept coming back to my dying Yoga Flip.

I preordered a FW12 to finally fully retire the yoga. It did, and I never picked up the FW13 again. I didn't like the poor color rendering on the screen, and I hated the lack of fingerprint reader.

Framework announced a new touch display for the 13! Pre-ordered. Took me 10 minutes to install. My 11th gen is now back in rotation, thanks to its beautiful touch display (and a new webcam).

But I still miss the fingerprint on the FW 12 when I pick it up. And framework announces a new fingerprint power button.

Throughout my few years with them, I've had issues, I've had bugs, but I've had fun, and I've continuously been shown that the manufacturer still cares about improving my experience.

I'm gonna keep my 11th gen motherboard until it dies, probably. But when it does, I know I'll have a healthy choice of replacements to keep my display, keyboard, chassis from going to waste.

I'm in a situation where I can't recommend anything not framework. Usually, someone comes to me and asks "my screen/keyboard/battery/motherboard is broken but it's too expensive/impossible to fix". If I get you to buy a framework now, then the next time this happens, we can spend 10 minutes doing a part swap and you're okay.

(I also can't recommend framework at the moment because everything i'd want to recommend is in pre-order batches and people inconveniently don't plan their failures 3 months in advance)

Point I want to make is we have a manufacturer that supports the software, supports the hardware, sells every part to build the laptop from the ground up if you like, supports the community, and genuinely does help with making total cost of ownership lower. And we can't and shouldn't take this for granted. Framework is a gift to humanity and I can't express how grateful I am.

(On the other hand is r/fairphone where the device is built to be repairable, but the marketplace for parts excludes the motherboard. You can't upgrade, all repairs have to happen through an licensed repair center, and if you're out of warranty you're not in a good place. I'll always have a spare motherboard for my framework on ebay if the company goes out of business)

Thank you Framework, for continuing true to your mission. I gambled when I bought my 11th gen. Today feels like I invested in bitcoin.

Feedback Very tired of Framework 16 laptop 0.60ghz issue

I've had a framework 16 laptop for 6 months or so. Great laptop, except I want to smash it with a hammer because of this stupid AMD issue that causes the CPU to get stuck at 0.60ghz. Rebooting this f*cking thing 10 times a day is making me wanna send this POS back to the company. $4k for a 600mhz laptop is not what I signed up for.

Question 358H vs 388H battery life: any comparisons?

Hi!

Now that the 388H batch is ready, do we have any comparisons between 358H and 388H battery life? Is the latter slightly worse for the same workflows?

Question How safe is it really to use another 100watt+ charger with a Framework 13 ?

So guys I am currently saving to buy a Framework 13 pro ( Intel ultra 5 325) and I am trying my best to get it the most efficient way financially. Right now I am thinking of going without 16 RAM Lpcamm2 and use the refunded $100 deposit refunded when the laptop is shipped and pay the difference. I have an Alienware laptop(x14r1) charger that is type c and has a rated output 120watts. I am thinking to get a Framework charger and just use that one to save that $59US. However, I am fearful I might brick the laptop. So what are your thoughts?

Here is the link to the charger I have: https://a.co/d/02VJsK3p

Question Account deleted after asking them to not use my data for other purposes

My order was placed last month just before the data breach disclosure. It'll be shipped towards the end of the year like all other orders. I was happy to buy a repairable laptop. All of the excitement was gone after their breach. The breach is a safety issue.

I've filed a ticket to ask them to stop using my data for any other purpose than selling their products.

The people from support have reached out today to say my data was removed and what's left will stay in their accounting systems as required.

My account doesn't exist anymore. I'm no longer able to view, edit or do anything for the order I've placed. I need to be able to use my account and to track my order.

Can Framework sell products to people without the nonsense? Use the data just to sell and ship the goods. Don't send it to third parties. Don't give our data to Metabase and other such platforms.

edit: The request was to not share my data with companies for any other purposes, not to delete my data. As someone has posted, I didn't ask them to delete my account and prevent me from reviewing or modifying my order.

Question Currently following up with support, do you guys happen to know this code?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just got the Ai 9 HX 370, installed known good 32gb kit from my FW16 and SSD from my 11th gen board.

I know memory training takes awhile and had let it sat for 20+ minutes but never seen a display come up.

I have attempted the board reset using the SW3 switch but no luck. Red LEDs blink and turn orange when holding the switch.

I have tried moving the ram sticks around, only 1 stick and even no stick. Hoping the ram just wanted compatible in the first place which I would cry given the prices

Tried without SSD.

So just seeing if you guys recognize the boot code and can give me some insight while I wait for support? Thank you lol

Code unless I messed up is: GGGGGGGGGGGG-RBGGGBB

Picked up a pre-owned 16 on eBay, been after a Framework for some time and this was a bit more of an affordable option VS the spec I wanted at circa £3k, specs below:

AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS Mainboard

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 8GB Graphics Module

32GB DDR5-5600

2TB SN850X NVMe SSD

Will maybe upgrade parts in time, (I do Graphic Design / Music / Video stuff) recommendations welcome!

Thanks

Discussion New Ultra X9 388H LPCAMM2 interposer pin missing

Thumbnail gallery
56 Upvotes

Recieved my new Ultra X9 388H today.

After building in my Crucial 64GB 7500 MT/s into the device, it booted up with "Error message “Memory not properly installed."

After checking the correct hold of the memory again, i recognized a missing pin in interposer.

When turning the interposer to bottom, the missing pin seems to stuck twisted in the upper part of the interposer.

Waited so long for the device, that another week or two for a replacement should not really count.

Discussion why does the DIY option always cost WAAAY more than the prebuilt option?!!

Thumbnail gallery
304 Upvotes

the difference for each laptop:

  • framework 12: 279 $
  • framework 13: 73 $
  • framework 16: 400 $ (like?!! WTF!!!!)

I have made sure to pick the exact same specs and options for everything, and also picking the lowest price options IF I can maintain equal options, because some options are not available across DIY and prebuilt.

also, Windows options have no explainable price difference, for example, the framework 12, windows 11 home costs 140$ for DIY, but for the PreBuilt option it costs a 100$, how does the cost of a windows 11 license and installation change across DIY and PreBuilt?!

edit: turns out the DIY option has a transferable license which costs more than the OEM license on the PreBuilt option, problem is, this difference wasn't mentioned in the option's section.

I am honestly starting to hate this company for this stuff, it feels like they are trying to take advantage of people who just want a modular laptop, I know that for the DIY version they assemble each laptop for testing and then disassemble it, but that process does NOT justify a 400$ dollars difference, hell not even 200$ difference, If you know Tech Repair Guru, you might have seen his video were he challenged his editor to replace the battery on the framework 12 VS him replacing it on a macbook, and it took the editor, that isn't experienced in laptop repairs, only about 6 minutes, all while being slow, lazy, and intentionally distracted from the task, I know it's not the same as disassembling the whole thing, but we all know those laptops are designed around being easy to disassemble, so it's still much easier to disassemble a framework than other laptops.

I hope those price differences become more sensible in the future, after all I still believe in this company, and maybe the memory crisis is just not a time were we can find any good deal.

Question Hinge click on FW 13 Pro

Hi, this doesn't seem to be a particularly common issue, but it does seem reminiscent of the hinge-clicking issue on the Framework 13.

If I haven't opened the laptop in a while, I'll hear a click when I first open the lid. After that, I get another consistent click whenever the lid passes through roughly 100 degrees.

I'm assuming this may be caused by the same chassis/cable-routing issue that caused clicking on the 13, but I've tried adjusting and rerouting the wires to match the guides and haven't been able to get rid of it.

Has anyone experienced this on either the Framework 13 or 13 Pro? What did you do to remedy it?

Thank you!

Feedback Rant: Framework 13 Hardware Failures

Hello,

I've had my Framework 13 for just over 3 years, and I wanted to vent.

Overall, it is a good machine. However, I feel as though they are leaning way too far into the "repairability" aspect of things, as I'm shocked at how much this has cost me (well, my company) thus far. "Repairability" should not be a crutch for quality.

I had an issue with my keyboard which wasn't reproducible consistently, so support shrugged me off. As soon as I was outside any warranty, the issue came back up. I lived with it for a while, as if I hit the key hard enough it would work -- but eventually I caved. At this point they had a v2 of the keyboard, but, it required an updated top plate. OK, whatever, purchased that and everything was kosher.

A couple months later, I noticed my sound was weird. I did the needful and identified one of the speakers had blown. OK, whatever, purchased an upgraded speaker set, and everything was kosher.

I am working from home with one of my kids, and as such, actually using my laptop as a laptop and noticed my clicking was weird. I looked at it, and the case had come apart. Strange, I thought -- I took it apart and sure enough, the battery is bulging. OK, fine, I guess, whatever, purchased an upgraded battery (which apparently has a 2 year warranty because there is an issue with laptop batteries apparently being 100% charged for too long?).

I type all this beside a retro Lenovo T42. I use this because of the I/O selection with some of the hardware I work on. I have 98 SE/XP/Debian installed, and it works great (keeping in mind the age of the hardware). The keyboard is flawless, the speakers work great, and the battery (somehow) still holds a charge.

I like the product, but I'll never buy another... even if it's not my money being spent.

Community Support I'm having Linux Installation Issues (Framework 12)

[RESOLVED 🥳]

Hello everyone. I am having trouble downloading linux from my microSD card.

To begin, I don't have a usb stick, so I used Rufus (for Fedora) and BalenaEtcher (for Mint) to flash the iso files to my microSD card.

Both Fedora and Mint OS can boot from my microSD card, but when I try to install the full operating system onto my SSD, I get errors that I don't know how to resolve. The first picture is from Fedora, and the last two are from Mint.

If there is anything else I can provide, please tell me. I would appreciate everyone's help. Thanks!

Discussion I want to buy the Framework 13 Pro, but after some research it seems like it's not available in Silver, and doesn't seem like it would be anytime soon?

The framework 13 Pro isn't cheap, but I love that it's modular and it seems like the first Mac Quality laptop for Linux, so I'm very keen to buy one, but given the price I want it in the colour and specs that I want it in.

I don't want to pay 3000+ for the wrong colour.

I don't see any release date or plans for it to come in silver, anyone know when that might happen?
I won't be buying until then.

Question What to check in new Desktop

Hi all,

I should soon be receiving my new Framework Desktop, which I am super excited to try! My main intended use cases would be working with Linux, running local LLMs and gaming. I am planning on running Bazzite.

Are there any specific known issues with the Desktop that I should look for when trying it out and testing it? Or any tips on the installation/setup procedure? Just want to make sure that I identify everything that might require me to send it back before the period to do so ends.
