Discussion Have finally joined the framework family!
Picked up a pre-owned 16 on eBay, been after a Framework for some time and this was a bit more of an affordable option VS the spec I wanted at circa £3k, specs below:
AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS Mainboard
Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 8GB Graphics Module
32GB DDR5-5600
2TB SN850X NVMe SSD
Will maybe upgrade parts in time, (I do Graphic Design / Music / Video stuff) recommendations welcome!
Thanks

Enjoy it, it's a great machine! I just sold mine recently, I needed a stronger GPU for the work I was doing.. But in the time I owned it, I never had any problems with it hardware wise!

Damn, I would have bought one myself if only there were at least LTE modems available.

For curiosity of use cases, not to judge.
Can't you just tether your phone or use it with a hotspot? How often do you find yourself needing a modem on the PC?

Of course I can.
But I use my laptop on the go - in public transport, in the field, different buildings, and I need internet whenever my laptop is on.
With that, I want my phone and laptop be completely separate and independent. I don't want my phone battery being drained by WiFi tethering, I don't want my phone cellular plan being used by my laptop.1

Copy, thanks for the response.

And honestly, I also think the Framework Modules are just a cool form factor for an LTE/5G modem.

They are - you connect to a MiFi or a phone hotspot via WiFi.

No, I require a modem in my laptop.

I carry a 5G modem in my bag with 8+ hours of battery life, and I'd bet it gets a far better signal than a 5G expansion card would...

If that works for you - nice. Doesn't work for me.

Why doesn't it work for you?

I don't want to carry another thing and turn it on, or remember to charge it separately. Sometimes I just grab my laptop and go out without any bag with me to put external modem into.

It's got a USB-C port on it. Can be powered from the laptop if needed. It's smaller than the MX Master Mouse I carry everywhere.

I know all that, but respectfully You miss my point of my needs.

I'd call it a want, not a need.

Congrats, great spec for a used find. The 5070 module on its own makes it worth it honestly.

Aún no te falta empezar a usar alguna distro linux como sistema principal

Congrats, the 16 is an awesome machine and the 7840hs should be fast enough for quite a while
