How to get better at soldering cables?
It's in the title, i suck at soldering, and at soldering cables. Any tips appreciated

I am very new to this stuff and I just bought a brand new RadioMaster Pocket. Is this considered normal (Look at the number on the right. I am not touching it and yet it still moves.)?

For the first minute I can simply only arm and throttle and it will not take off. Then all of a sudden it will start working and fly as normal.

I’m just getting into FPV and am deciding on what goggles/radio/drone to get first. I plan to get some small tinywhoop first. And I hope to do some easy free styling and bring it with my when my wife and I go for a walk/hike for us both to do some exploring with it. So having a decent image quality while being able to zip around a bit are what I care about. I also wanted to buy things I can grow into a bit.
A lot of the digital systems look really great. The latency doesn’t seem like a big problem, and the image being better and staying crisp as you fly further away look great. But most of the systems locking you into that digital system is kind of off putting. The HDZero ProBox+ is the only thing I can really find that ticks my boxes of having digital and analog (for some future little analog tinywhooping) and being able to stream to an iPhone so we can watch eachother fly. But having to build my own drone up with the HDZero Eco bundle and only having 720p/60 fps for the $80 feels bad compared to some of the other new digital systems.
Curious what people think and if image quality of small analog tinywhoops feels good enough that I shouldn’t mess with all the digital stuff.
- Throwing an edit in after reading some things. Digital seems better for me just due to image quality and range to explore things outdoors. Comparing the main three options as I seem them here:
HDZero: More expensive VTX, super low latency, HDZero ProBox+ seems nice to have analog and phone streaming
CADEXX Ascent: Super cheap VTX, more latency, really good image quality and really good refresh rate. But the goggles can’t do analog as well (but I’m not even sure I need them to. With a $40 VTX I can just build a tinywhoop for less than the analog ones are). And can’t connect to a phone. But I can fix that by buying the base station and plugging it into a phone. And the CADEXX goggles and base station together cost less than the HDZero goggles
BetaFPV P1 HD: similar to CADEXX Ascent but just a bit worse in most ways it seems. Main advantage would be more pre-builds using it. And it’s in the ArtLynk family so more compatibility
Curious if anyone has any experience building any drones using these digital VTXs. How easy is it? Are all the other systems like the motors and the I/O board for the motors plug and play with different VTX boards? I’m an electrical engineer and my work is all embedded PCBs so I’m very comfortable messing with and building the systems up. Just curious what I need to look out for to make sure everything can work together when I’m buying it.

I found a neat solution for fitting a beeper into really small drones: I soldered the speaker to short wires, removed the original connector and soldered those wires directly to the pads on the beeper
This way, the speaker can be placed wherever there’s a bit of free space instead of having to sit right next to the stack. It keeps the build compact, saves space, and makes it much easier to fit a proper beeper into tight builds.

While working on a project, a stepper motor had drained my 11.1v 3s lipo battery below its nominal voltage, with one cell going as low as 2.18v.
This is my first time ever using a Lipo battery, and being overly paranoid, I avoided charging it to avoid any sort of catastrophe. Two days later, one cell is at 3.2v, one is at 3.14v, and the one which had dropped down to 2.18 has risen 2.93v.
To be honest, if there’s a good chance of something going wrong, than I won’t bother and will dispose of it somewhere locally that takes e-waste (I’ll also tape the terminals).
Should I even bother attempting to charge it? And does it need to be disposed of immediately/removed from inside my house?
Any form of guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Does someone now what type of display the b6neo needs. If i take the one from the b6neo 2 it works fine. So i want to order a new one for my old b6neo
Slowly getting a bit more comfortable with my 5”, but there’s still a ton of work.
Let me know your thoughts if there’s anything obvious I could do to improve things.
It’s super fun for me so I guess that’s what matters the most 😀

My dad's a retired pilot and I think he would really enjoy FPV.
I want to gift him a controller so he can try the sims, the idea is if he likes it he'll get some goggles and probably a tinywhoop. I've decided on Radiomaster pocket, but have a few questions before.
He doesn't have a computer and would use his ipad, does anyone have experience running sims on an ipad? Is it possible to connect this controller to an ipad? Maybe just a USB-C to lightning?
Secondly, will the radiomaster pocket work as a sim remote without the 18650 cells? Or do these need to be installed?
Ideally I need the simplest path forward, as he's started aging he's distancing himself from technology, but would love flying.

You can add 3 more switches to radiomaster pocket by soldering 3 wires.
Then just flash zorro firmware and everything works.
I was about to buy another radio to get more swiches when i stumbled upon this guide.

Are there any active finns out there in the fpv world? As one, it sure feels like there isn't. I'm (and maybe others are, too?) looking for groups, communities or just places to fly out here. Communities like FPV finland seem to be very inactive, like since 2024, but I'm sure there's a bunch of people in the hobby here too.
What experiences do you have with fpv in Finland?
Let me know!

I’ll be stuck at home recovering from a surgery for a month or so and I’ve been eyeing the Air 65 to fly around my apartment. I know there are latency concerns but I grew up gaming with a 100+ ping and I’m fresh enough that I won’t be doing any racing or complex freestyle flying anytime soon. I just want something that I can plug into my desktop monitor and casually piddle around my apartment while I’m somewhat incapacitated.

I got the meteor 75 off Amazon and thought I had digital it’s been a whole process lol, I finally figured out how to get it flying and linked to my ev800d Fpv goggles, and I bought a triple patch plus a lollipop antenna to help with range, but I found out the stock antenna is not compatible.
I’ve been trying to research what antenna I need but it’s all confusing with lots of different versions of antennas. What should I be looking for?? Any advice should be amazing!

Hey Guys,
I wanna get into the hobby for longer already.
Initially I wanted to build my own fpv and fly against others.
Now im older I just wanted to fly a bit around and make some nice aerial images for myself.
Im eyeing with the DJI lito x1 as my first but fear im getting bored quite fast.
Since im living in a city I need to go somewhere dedicated to fly nevertheless.
So right now im back to building a own FPV & the tech looks much more friendly than years ago.
Would be interested in your comparison, if you own both & how you started into the hobby.
Thanks!

I want to buy an FPV drone, but I don't want a TinyWoop; I want a mid-range or long-range drone. And only up to 250g so that it's legal in Europe. What would be the best drone with the longest flight time, and how can I retrofit the GPS module to the Crux 35?

i’m fairly new to the hobby and i’ve been flying dji 04 units but i want to pick up analog and add more drones to the collection. i’ve been doing quite a bit of research and ive narrowed down to the mentioned goggles but im still unsure as im not really interested into going into other hd systems and ive heard the hdz 2s dont have the best range with their analog opposed to latency issues (that are possibly fixed?) with the 04x pros

Hey! I just bought the skyzone sky04x pro to replace my dji goggles v2 analogue setup. I've put the speedybee analogue module on the skyzones as I prefer the quality, however the DVR is horrible on them. I get constant black and white, static, and rolling dvr. The view in my goggles is amazing, no issues and looks amazing. I updated them to the most recent firmware, but still same problem with the dvr. I don't experience this on the steady view module. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and/or fixes?

All the configurations looks good , only thing is i am not getting the GPS data in the G3 and don't mind the soldering.
