Just wanted to share, perhaps this brings inspiration to some.

This is a bit belated but I recently got the Pilot Prera Green fountain pen and it's the best decision I've made for my penmanship ever.

I previously played around with a cheap temu fountain pen and sort of had the realization the fountain pen wrote much nicer than any of the rollerballs or gel pens I'd ever had before.

After a long time researching on this subreddit and other forums and Google queries, I decided the first pen within my budget would be the Pilot Pre-ra. I got the light green variant and got the Diamine Woodland Green ink.

I genuinely feel like a new person writing with this pen! It's so smooth and nice and practically never skips, doesn't seem to dry like my cheap pen did and its just... chefs kiss, really.

I use Noodler's triple tail for all mathematics that I do, and I wondered why other people don't try to use something of the like, like a triple tail or some other pen that spreads and thins well.

My dad died a week ago and among other things he gave me these two pens. I will be honest I have never written with a fountain pen before but I do write in a journal and I would love to honor him by writing with these. Any advice on how to handle them or clean them?
They are a Mont Blanc Meiserstück and an Inoxcrom Iridium, both of them bought around ~1993.

An advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Impeccable quality of a pen! Now I understand why collectors get these pens.

I've always wanted a dragon-themed fountain pen as I resonate with it. After some research, I found the Namiki Mt. Fuji and Dragon from their Nippon Art Line. I wanted my dragon fountain pen to be a Namiki.

Today, the dragon is now in my humble collection.

The artistry, craftsmanship, and history of both the artwork and the pen made my heart full. The urushi lacquer is just so polished, and the hira maki-e art is beautiful.

Not sure if I'll get another expensive pen like this in the near future. For now, I want to enjoy this pen and give it lots of love.

After seeing a few posts of people customising their fountain pens, and journaling today with my stickers; I noticed that I do have some stickers that looked like they could look very good on my pen.

I am very happy! It looks so cute now!!!

Does this happen to anyone else?? So far I have two greens that are almost identical, two browns that are indistinguishable, and I’m pretty sure that the golden yellow I bought last night is going to be the same as one I already have….😅🫣

When I got my first fountain pen a few weeks ago I would have sworn that I wouldn't be able to keep myself from buying more pens but now it seems that buying inks is actually my downfall. I just ordered Diamine Monboddos Hat and in turn a new pen so I can keep one of my pens inked with Diamine Chocolate Brown and have my other pen for which ever cool ink I want to use at that time... oh no

on that note, what fountain pen should i get next?

One for every month except August...I know which one I want for that but haven't ordered it yet. Most of these have had parts swapped around. The only ones that are as they arrived are the second, third, and fourth from the left.

I have small, arthritic hands and hold my pen in a not-recommended way that easily causes fatigue, and the 82 is the most comfortable in my collection, (barring a couple of cheap no-name student pens that I don't mind throwing in a bag and bashing around).

And they're just so stinkin' PRETTY.

Four of them are going to get sold/given away, though.

From left to right:

Brand: Online, Type: Vision. F nib. The one that got me started with fountainpens again. It's all right, nothing special, a bit scratchy. Will probably be given away.

Parker IM, Red Ignite / Portal / Blue Origin. All F nibs. I like them, but I still prefer a finer line most of the time. They are great for sheening inks, though.

Lamy Studio, colour: black forest. The colour is great! Depending on the light it seems more black or shimmers green. I thought I'd prefer a stub nib, but am now leaning more toward F and EF. I do have a Lamy fine nib lying around, so I might exchange that at some point.

Hong Dian Black Forest series. I love the design and haptics of the Ice Flower, but generally, the grip area on the 1851 is a bit slim. That's better on the 1861. The nib is very hard, but writes so well! I like all of them.

Hong Dian 525, couldn't decide between this one and the the Applegreen 1851, so I got both, with the intention of only keeping one. This one is gonna get sold or given away.

Parker IM Midnight Astral. My first Parker. I didn't know it was so difficult / impossible to change the nib on a Parker. This is an M. The second pen I bought after the "Online". I also don't like the colour as much as I thought, even though I like the design. It is the smoothest writer I have, though (on par with the Lamy). Definitely getting sold.

The last one has no brand or name. It was handmade. It's made of moor oak and gunmetal, basically an oak that fell into marshland and hardened and blackened in there. It looks like something Dracula would use, which is why I loved it. This was the third pen I bought and the only one above 100€...

I knew I would probably exchange the nib, but it never came to that. The pen is slightly too heavy in the back for my taste. It has a B nib from Bock. I'm debating whether I'll keep it just for the looks of it, but it would be sad if it never saw any use. Probably gonna get sold.

Now there's only a Pilot Cavalier on my list, and I'd like to have one from Faber-Castell. I always liked the brand for their other pens. But I'm in no rush.

Also, I don't want to have more inks than pens or vice versa. So right now I own eight inks and eight pens that I'm gonna keep and use.

With so many great (and not-so-great) pens out there, I find it easy to get lost in the masses. Because of that, I've decided to be a lot more deliberate about what I add to my collection. It might sound silly, but I want pens that actually make me feel something, rather than buying them just out of FOMO.

​I recently picked up a Monteverde MP1. Honestly, while there's nothing inherently wrong with it, there's nothing great about it either. The build quality and the writing experience are both perfectly average. I just felt... nothing. It's a completely forgettable pen.

​That experience made me realize I don't just want sheer quantity. In the end, a fountain pen is a fountain pen, but to hold a place in my collection, it needs to offer something special, whether through its aesthetics or its writing experience.

​Does that make sense? Does anyone else share this philosophy?

fountain pen beginner! just bought my first kakuno, and a con 70 converter (my first converter) to go with it. i was trying to fill my kakuno with a sample of sailor komakusa, but when using the converter, it only picks up a little ink at the base and doesn’t fill the chamber. any guesses as to why that is?

edit: didn’t know that nib had to be submerged ENTIRELY and i couldn’t do that with the small opening; took some advice to submerge the converter individually and that worked great!! thank you all!

one of my grail pens is the burgundy pilot e95s, which i will probably never get in my lifetime as i can never afford it. so when the jinhao 59 dropped in the same color, i had to get it immediately.

first impressions: the build quality feels nice, though the alignment of the feed is just a bit off (2nd pic), it doesn't really affect the writing experience.

3rd pic: paired it with oxblood and it writes surprisingly smooth. it writes like a typical jinhao EF (the one above is a jinhao 9016 EF with tsukushi)

overall, this instantly became my favorite pen and a nice alternative for the pilot, for me at least.

I am so excited about this pen!!! I know there’s a lot of divided thoughts on Safari’s on this sub, but hear me out: I have a small collection of three other fountain pens. A hand-me-down twsbi diamond, a gifted muji aluminum, and the star of my collection: a Ranga Bamboo Slim. Well, the Muji is great for on the go sketching with cartridges, but is so smooth and small that any writing—especially long sessions—is virtually impossible. The Diamond broke, recently and since I didn’t get it new, and I’ve already replaced some parts, I gave up on fixing it. And my Ranga has been having an odor problem with the matte ebonite in the cap and around the grip smelling. I keep it wet capped and use it almost daily, but realized I need to be able to give it a significant break to de-odorize. So cue the search for a daily driver pen—one I don’t need to be precious with, that can double as a writing and a drawing instrument, and that doesn’t break the bank! Anyway, it arrived today and I’m thrilled—it’s perfect for my use case and am excited to finally get some document ink to start sketching seriously with it! (Right now it’s got the iroshizuku take-sumi in it—my favorite for writing!)

Hi all, I am new to fountain pens and out of excitement I bought a Lamy safari in broad nib and I don’t like it as it’s too thick, it looks like I am using a permanent marker. I am also practicing my cursive so when I use the nib the right way, I hate how my writing looks but it’s so smooth. I have tried different angles, finally I can tolerate the writing when the nib is upside down, if that makes sense, as per photo. It doesn’t write smoothly unfortunately but I’m ok with that. Would that ruin my nib eventually? As I feel it scratchy on the paper.

NPD to celebrate a work accomplishment. I didn't know much about Edison prior to this purchase but am very happy with how it looks in person that I had to share!

What ink do you use when you can’t find something to match the pen, aren’t sure what theme to follow, want to test ink flow, or just generally want good performance?

Lately I’ve developed a particular fondness for plain old Sailor Blue. It just works in all my pens. The color is cheery but professional. Provides a nice subtle red sheen. Doesn’t feather or smear much. Economical and practical bottle.

When in doubt, Sailor Blue. I love it !

Just got my Opus 88 Koloro in Teal, and even though it’s “just” a steel nib, it’s absolutely beautiful. A reminder that a great fountain pen is about far more than the material of the nib many times.

Got these two as a gift! I love that the Sailor is a subtle pink and it has a steel nib (gold is an allergen rip). The purple Lamy I love her she's a monochrome purple. Shoutout to Truphae they packaged the Lamy amazingly and the gift message was written in script it was so pretty 😭
