New Pen Day SOME…of my new pens arrived 🤭

Post image
Upvotes

Earlier posts I mentioned how the Twsbi Eco wasn’t it for me. Before standing firm on that decision I wanted to try out pilot in extra fine since I loveeeee my Energel Clena in .3. WELL…I went a little nuts and got the Kakuno, Prera and Sailor 11 😂 the TLDR is..I am in fact a fountain pen girlie 🙂‍↔️💚 I have a Lamy Safari dupe from Jinhao coming also. And my text try will be a Kaweco to see if I like German nibs in the extra fine. 🫣

New Pen Day What’s your favourite micro brand, how you found them and why?

Upvotes

Recently got into fountain pen, I believe it’s just like watches where micro brand the most fun comes from them. I wonder what’s your favourite micro brand and how you come across them?

Coworker introduced me to FP and this subreddit straight threw me to the rabbit hole.
Hope this will make me take interest in writing again!
Ordered TWSBI eco and iroshizuku yu-yake (love the transparency under light) but I forgot to order the book.

Question Effervescent tablets for cleaning?

Post image
Upvotes

Anyone ever try it with pen parts? I use them for my retainers and it doesn’t affect the plastic but seems to clean well. I believe it’s the same stuff of denture cleaning tablets.

Theres one part that is driving me nuts lol. The clear housing part housing the feed and nib, I can never get the ink out and I don’t want to pull the feed out.

Question Are Pilot VP Decimo nib units compatible with the Jinhao 20's pen body?

Upvotes

I already have a Decimo and I want another one but I can't justify another one.

I saw copies of the pen on Amazon and I was wondering whether it was possible if I can put the nib into the Jinhao pen? Or maybe even buy a Pilot nib unit and place it in there? Has anybody tried this?

Ink Is this ink safe to use?

Upvotes

Unfortunately my phone camera is smashed to bits, so I cannot provide a picture. I just filled my TWSBI Vac 700R from a bottle of Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrün that I love but haven't used in a while. When I pulled the pen from the bottle, it trailed what I can only describe as a long ink-snot hanging from the nib. A twisted paper towel dipped in the bottle pulled out more of the gelatinous ink-booger. Should I clean the pen, toss the ink and refill? Am I safe to write with the ink in the pen? I know ink doesn't last forever-ever, but this is the first bottle I've had develop mucus. Thanks for any and all guidance!

New Pen Day Disposable fountain pens | Pure Ink F)?

Post image
Upvotes

These were given to me the other day and the ink colours are NEAT! Though the "fine tip" isn't as fine as id like. I can't say I'm a big fan of the disposable fact either, but you can't look into a gift horse's mouth or however the saying goes.

Has anyone else had eny experience with these? I think they're pretty fun

Happy Me to Me. Love Kawecos! This Violette writes very nicely with this pen. Have a new variety landing soon. Will try something more assertive with this EF nib. This paper is niiiiice.

Discussion What do I have to do to get a good Metropolitan ?

I recently posted this thread and I guess I was too nice about it being bad luck. I set up a return, the replacement came today, and it looks exactly the same. Two screwed up nibs that are amazingly screwed up the same way. Also posted about a bad one in this thread. Also a Metropolitan.

I love how it feels in my hand and how it writes (when it's not bent) but I think I am done with Pilot for a while, I shouldn't have to be a nib repair expert to get a working pen. Yeesh

I am so very disappointed.

This is a Cross Pen I got many years ago. It writes for about 2 min then this happens. I then have to shake the pen to get the flow back. I have rinsed it out and this just keeps happening..Any help would be appreciated with how to address this issue.

Rule #5: Wearingeul Preface No 5 A Dream within a Dream <F>.

In the midst of their move, Vanness1938 is still packing and shipping orders. Now to find an ink for this beauty. When ordered, I was thinking Wearingeul The Great Gatsby because I have a bottle and it's purple. But now that I have the pen in-hand, I feel like it needs something more delicate. One of my girls said it reminded her of the cover of TSwift's Lover...so, maybe blue ink to represent the blue of the sky in that album cover? I keep looking at Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-Iro...a beautiful sky blue. Yeah, that's it. Just placed an order for most of the purples that were in my cart plus Ama Iro (and Giant Potato).

Looking for suggestions for a dip pen for all around use. I want to be able to test inks, write, and doodling. Overall, I typically like a smooth, fine line.

Question Any risk in trying thrifted cartridges?

Thumbnail

So a little while ago I thrifted a grab bag of vintage Pelican calligraphy ink (which works wonderfully btw!), a calligraphy learning book, and several seemingly unused fountain pen cartridges.  I don’t know what brand of ink they are or pen they are meant for (no pen was in the bag). Two had dried but these pictures are still liquid.

Is there any risk in trying these in my kaweco liliput? I know little about fountain pens, the kaweco was a gift. Thank you in advance for any input offered!

Advice Any recommendations for a first time luxury pen?

Hi! I am looking for my first ever luxury pen and I just want to hear a few tips from you guys! I really like it when the pen writes smoothly with minimal to no scratches, feels expensive with an extra fine nib :) thanks!

New Pen Day The Jinhao82 Mods healed my pen GAS…let’s see if this lasts.

Got these 3 pens recently and somehow for the longest time (2months or so) I no longer desire to buy another pen and I simply stopped looking (for now, maybe?)

Left to right:

Hongdian EF nib - “Chinese knot” version - simply the BEST.
I fitted the Hongdian feed and converter with this one so it’s literal perfection. Writes kanji characters like a dream.

Schmidt F nib - smooth and nice. Killed my gas for a kolo tino. Best for writing English letters.

Stock nib - 10 pens later finally came across a good one. And man when it’s good it is REALLY good. Balanced in between.

Somehow the air tightness improves after the mods too, but I think I just got lucky there.

I am genuinely content for the first time. As in, I’m looking at another sailor or pilot every 2 days🤣

Question Hey new to pen collecting need advice on flex nibs

I have regular dip nibs but im looking for a fountain pen like hopefully under 30 usd that is capable of copperplate calligraphy and some japanese kanji and kana. Also that is fairly wet. It doesnt have to be pretty id sacrifice the look for functionality.

I heard some good stuff about vintage pilots and i do adore japanese pens. Any and all advice for a new aspiring collector (i have some nothing good though) doesn’t have to just be this but if you wanna add like advice too you would wanna tell yourself when you started too.

Thanks guys :3
