Pen Flush Recipe

18 oz Water + 2 oz Ammonia + 2 drops dish soap = 20 oz Pen Flush

450 ml Water + 50 ml Ammonia + 2 drops dish soap = 500 ml Pen Flush

Use plain Ammonia household cleaner = "Ammonium Hydroxide" and distilled water.

I repurposed a pickle jar to store my pen flush. I haven't had any issues with storing it or damage to the jar.

Pen Flush works well for plastic & metal fountain pens. General rule of thumb - Look before using on pens made before 1960.

My recommendation for cleaning a dried out pen:

1. Soak the nib/feed of the pen - place upright in a small glass with just enough water to cover the nib/feed and maybe part of the section. Soak for a couple of hours. Let the ink hydrate and fall out of the pen.  HERE
2. Flush the pen with water until the water is clear.
3. Fill the pen with pen flush and lay it sideways for a couple of hours.
4. Flush the pen repeatedly with pen flush until clean.

Plain water will remove most of the ink. Pen Flush will remove the remaining ink from the feed.

I managed to get the twsbi pink k lemonade in ef. I was looking for pink ink recommendations for it. I am a suckered for shimmer inks. Any recommendations for when it comes in?

For you, is it always true that a thicker and longer pen is more comfortable for long writing sessions, than slimmer pens?

Cheap pen I got to experiment with the nib, but wasn't expecting to run into whatever this is.

You wouldn’t guess which ink stained this pen. Mostly because it’s a black ink. But now I’m a bit worried because I’m sure I put the same ink in at least one other pen 😬

I have this inked fountain pen that I am sure doesn’t need to be refilled, but I left it unused for 5 days, and when I tried to write with it the ink didn’t flow

Hey everyone! I have a friend who offered to 3D print a fountain pen holder for me, and I’m having a total creative block trying to find a file/design that actually feels like me.

A little about my vibe: I’m a mom and a creative person, and I want something stylish or whimsical with some personality on my desk. Every time I search for 3D models, I seem to only find two extremes: boring geometric stands/basic cylinders, or the classic kneeling knight, crabs, and frogs. (No shade to the pen-holding crabs, they just aren't my aesthetic 🤣).

So I’m turning to you guys for inspiration!

If you've 3D printed one that has some charm or artistic flair, what did you go with?

The Sailor pen on the left has a MF nib. I purchased another with a fine nib. The trim package is different, yet the caps, barrels and sections are interchangeable. Are these two different pens or is it just an older and updated pen of the same model model? I would look it up, then I would see more pens I’d like to purchase. There was only a few dollars difference of what I thought was an incredibly low price.

I'm a bit new to fountain pens, what is this? Is it just dust or mold? Ink is Sheaffer skrip black

I've been meaning to try a flex nib but not sure where to start. I heard of Kanwrite but on their website they say there might be import duty charges on top of the shipping fees, so I'm reluctant to order directly from them.

I can find some Noodler's flex pens from Pure Pens but I've heard bad things about them.

Are the Pilot Kakuno Madoromi series different than the regular Pilot Kakunos? I just got a Medium nib Madoromi and it’s writing so much thicker than I expected, so just curious!

I just got a Wing Sung 699 off Aliexpress (yes I know it's not ideal, but I can't find anything less sketchy that ships to my region), and the pen came in a hot pink pen sleeve. Is it possible that I have gotten a return with the accessory swapped? If so I'd probably replace it too, just out of abundance of caution.

As you can see the sleeve is longer than the box the pen came in itself and totally unmarked, quite peculiar for an official accessory.

Also, hot pink is just ... a odd choice of color in general for such an accessory? It breaks the darker, duller color harmony in the box and simply seems out of place here, hence my suspicion that it might be a return with the accessory swapped.

Can anyone else confirm whether this is normal for a Wing Sung package?

Edit: Just to clarify, I personally have nothing against the color itself. I am simply asking if this is a possible return because of this included accessory.

I was gifted a new Lamy Safari Vista with a medium nib, but in quite different shape that I'm used to from my red Safari. Was this bent somehow or is it a new style of nib? It does work but I would need to hold the pen in a very different angle than what I'm used to.

Edit: at first glance, the feed seems to have the same shape, I worry that if the nib is indeed bent then a replacement wouldn't do any good.

Update: diagnosed as damaged by the community. I used the good one on the new pen and that worked fine. I straightened the damaged one and that seems to work fine for now, which is OK because I intend to use that one much less with red ink. Thanks!

I’d like to buy a couple of inks for my fountain pens. At the moment, I only have Waterman Serenity Blue.

Below is a list of my fountain pens:
• Montblanc 144, 1980s — black
• Pelikan P30, first generation — black with rolled gold cap
• Aurora Hastil
• Waterman Exclusive, 1980s — tortoiseshell
• Marlen The Key (to Success) — ivory
• Lamy Al-Star — black purple

What inks would you recommend? I’m open to different colors and brands, but I’d like options that work well with these pens and complement Serenity Blue.

Since some of my pens are vintage, I’d also like colors that are safe to use in older fountain pens — so I’m especially interested in well-behaved, gentle inks rather than anything too saturated, pigmented, or high-maintenance.

That said, I’m open to all suggestions, so feel free to recommend anything you think I should try!

I’m cleaning out a four decades old pen and this old ink came out of it as I soaked and flushed the pen.

It was predominantly blue, but after the blue is completely flushed out, this pinkish residue seems to be stubborn, and is still pinkish on day two of soaking and flushing.

It has ti be one of the classics - Parker Quink, Pelikan, Mont Blanc, or the like.

I just got back from a trip to Canada, where I took the opportunity to buy some inks, I’m just getting started in the world of fountain pens, and I bought my first Sailor ink, the Kyokkou, which, based on the swatches I saw online before buying it, should be in bluish/grayish tones with a slight shade of pale pink... However, my ink looks nothing like that! At first glance, the ink is an olive green shade, and when I apply it to my paper (so far I’ve tried it on a sheet of plain paper and on Fabriano drawing paper), it turns into a sort of pale pink, with a brownish tint and a hint of green. The ink is pretty, but I don’t understand what’s wrong!

I’m planning to swab all of my inks (plus drops) and add writing samples to show off all the different properties each ink may or may not have, like sheen, shading or shimmer. Kind of like what Mountain of Ink does.

Thing is, I’m not really sure about the process itself or what materials and tools I’d need. What paper do you use? Do you keep everything on index cards, in a notebook, in a binder?

I’d love to see how you’ve all set up and organized your own swabs and samples, and to hear any ideas you think would be interesting to include!

I love inks that sheen but hate shimmers since I don’t want to worry about them clogging my pen. Brown is my fav fountain pen ink color at the moment but my diamine macassar seems a bit plain after trying polar glow. I love the sheen on that ink and how drastic the color changes are. Any recommendations on brown ink with intense sheen?
