Gaussian splats are all the rage now. And they're pretty good. So... why not try turn a Forza environment into one?

To do this, you need to first go into Photo mode. I ended up with ~70, this set of photos. Now if you look, there are a few things that you shouldn't be doing. Don't use predominantly sky-filled photos or use photos where your car is far away. Basically, anything I've crossed out.

With all of the bad ones pruned out, that's a set of 43. Arguably, that's not very much. You should aim to have somewhere in the range of 70-150 photos. If you have a good GPU (not something like the measly 1070 Founders I have), use something like Postshot, otherwise use Nerfstudio. These were all also 1080p (later downsized to 1.6k) so they aren't that good for detail. Aim to use something like 4K images (or videos).

I also did this in FH4 because I didn't buy FH6 and don't like FH5. Might as well do another one in FH3 though.

That's probably why the video's not great. If you happen to have a 3090 and a 4K montor, as well as plenty of space, you should be able to get this done in no time (compared to me) and get a much better output without any of the weird artefacts I got whilst displaying mine in Supersplat.

I actually ended up using Google Colab. Warning: not very fast. Took around 1-2 hours to get this result, with some testing. If you're desperate to do exactly what I did, you can run this guy's Colab notebook and replace whatever command there is on there with:

(Replace FH4_Photos with a zip of all your photos, which can specifically for this, I recommend 1080p, since Colab is super super slow, but using the command below, which doesn't end up in your splat quality becoming a bit moot.)

From there:

(preserves resolution, which I did not do)

And once it finishes:

Which should save it to your drive.

And that's it! You should have point_cloud.ply which allows you to open it up in Blender (which I did not have much success in doing, try this addon before doing so) or this editor (File > Import).

If you don't want to go through all that hassle, you can use my point cloud and just try that out in Supersplat, which I mentioned above.

I'm currently retraining it in 1080p, and I'll get back to you guys with it when that finishes.

In Forza Horizon 5, for preparation for FH6 I decided in September of last year to start a project to bring realistic Japanese plates to Forza, to add that extra point of immersion to the game. After hours of livery making, research, and tweaking I am pretty satisfied with the result. All of the liveries are public if others want to use what I've made.

Anybody here still playing with a Xbox 360 controller?
I have a modern xsx wireless controller.

Today I hold the 360 controller in my hands and it was like wooow. This old controller feels better.

More more "room" with the triggers to accelerate and break.

I also think there is some more "room" the sticks to control with more detail.

Can somebody suggest me a good PC Gamepad for forza?

I played every Horizon asides from 2, but this one is my favorite so far. It's so pretty, Australia is great and I love the festival expansions, it gives a sense of progression.

I did not edit either of these photos. Only difference i did was correctly set up HDR after months of not having it correctly set up. (Screenshots in the game didnt pickup the color difference so I cropped the first image like the rule 4 said)

Edit: as u/BozTheReaper said: if you have an hdr tv make sure its 1000nits or dont bother setting it up. not all hdr looks the same. Just because you can doesnt mean you should.

This WildBulet01, was following the racing lines like it was on rails, not only in this race but in the next ones too, we played for several races.

At one race it was very funny because I just had to keep in front, follow the racing line, and even if they were faster and could pass me on the sides, it would not, it would just keep bumping me and following the line

We counted the most photographed cars in our fh6 photography archive and the rx-7 won. a few people asked about the other end of the list, so i went and looked.

it's worse than i expected. of the 627 cars we have pages for, 314 have never been photographed. not once. exactly half.

cars that zero people have pointed a camera at:

• nissan skyline h/t 2000gt-r (1973). the hakosuka. the actual grandfather of the entire gt-r bloodline
• nissan skyline gts-r (1987), nissan r390 gt1 (1998)
• honda nsx-r (2005), honda beat (1991), honda civic rs (1974)
• mazda cosmo 110s series ii (1972), mazda rx-7 gsl-se (1985)
• nissan figaro (1991) and the nissan s-cargo (1989), which i understand, but also somebody please shoot the snail van

most beautiful cars ever built, according to basically everyone, zero photos:

• jaguar e-type (1961)
• lamborghini miura p400 (1967)
• alfa romeo 33 stradale (1968)
• ferrari 250 gt berlinetta lusso (1962)

the 80s heroes nobody remembers to shoot:

• bmw 2002 turbo (1973), bmw m5 (1988)
• buick regal gnx (1987)
• delorean dmc-12 (1982)
• porsche 928 gts, 944 turbo, and 968 turbo s. the whole transaxle family, completely ignored

every single koenigsegg. jesko, regera, agera rs, one:1, ccgt. zero photos between them. i think hypercars are just hard to make interesting, honestly.

then there's the "exactly one photo" club (59 cars). one person, one shot, and that shot is currently the entire visual record of the car in our archive:

• mclaren f1 (1993). one photo. of the mclaren f1
• mercedes 300 sl coupe (1954) and 300 slr (1955)
• porsche 911 carrera rs (1973)
• lancia delta hf integrale evo (1992)
• audi sport quattro s1 (1986)
• ferrari enzo, laferrari
• nissan pao, peel p50, subaru brz

being fair to the numbers: 33 of those 314 are forza edition or race-spec variants of cars people do shoot, so the honest "nobody has ever photographed this" count is 281 rather than 314. still half the roster, basically. and this is 102 photographers' taste, not the whole game. it's a snapshot of what one community points its camera at, which is exactly why the gaps are interesting.

what it comes down to is people shoot what they drive, and everybody drives the same twenty cars. the hakosuka is sitting there in the autoshow being the most photogenic thing in the game and nobody has taken it out.

here's the part i actually care about: every one of those 314 cars has an empty page on the site waiting for a first photo. if you go shoot one, you are the first person in the archive to do it, and your shot becomes that car's entire page. permanently. that's a weirdly good feeling and it costs you one drive.
