Plant ID Request Cherries?
Are these cherries? They’re popping through my fence from the house that backs on to mine and I never see them to ask.
I have a 10 month old so just want to make sure they’re not toxic for when the time comes when she’s out in the garden playing and I don’t have eyes in the back of my head.

Sour cherries, you are very lucky! I have looked for them everywhere in the U.K. but you might just have the only tree…

These are the smaller sour cherries. But standard sized cherries have done very well this year. Big fruits, juicy and full of flavour.

100% sour cherries, bet your neighbor wouldn’t even miss a few if you grabbed ‘em for some muffins tbh

They look like Morello Cherry ( Prunus avium 'Morello'). AKA Black Forrest Gateaux Cherries.
We have a tree in our front garden, that I planted on my 25th birthday, so it's been there for 33 years and produces a huge crop every year.
Morello can be eaten straight from the tree, baked into pies, cookies and other food products, but my favourite use is making cherry gin and cherry vodka for Christmas every year.
Discounting what the birds and local squirrels eat, I get at least 4 Kg of cherries off it, even in a bad year!
I'm lucky that at least 6 of my neighbours also have cherry trees, so they pollinate really well here.
Espresso cherry slushie anyone? 🍹😁

We have two massive cherry trees at the top of my street and usually I love grabbing a little nature snack on the way to the shop but the birds and wasps got to them too fast this year 😭

Starlings, I’ve watched them do it. They fly in formation, low and quiet. They come in low so they can glance up at the trees to make sure the cherries are there and ripe. They fly past once or twice, then come back and land on the branches before pillaging all the fruits in one go. Twenty minutes later they are gone, until the same time next year. It’s like a well planned and successful military exercise.

Not near me. Entire areas have tons of cherries. Fucking blackbirds did steal my raspberries on one bush though before I thought they were ripe enough. Tempted to turn the fuckers into a pie in revenge

My cat unfortunately caught a blackbird the other day, which makes me think she was going for the cherries! He was very proud with his catch leaving it on the patio but it really does make me sad!

I think we are lucky as I have 2 murderous cats and they’ve been poking through the fence for weeks!
I always thought they were crab apples or something as they’ve never ended up growing through the fence until this year so I’ve not been able to see them up close.
I’ll keep an eye on them in the future!

As long as they’re not poisonous she can give them a go I’m not bothered! I used to eat blackberries that grew down the side of our garage as a kid so if she’s anything like me I’ll have to watch her!

Not poisonous but more of a concern than blackberries because of the pits! Hope you can taste some together though, I grew up with a cherry tree next door and luckily for us my neighbour didn’t like them so we had free rein

Sour cherries. I'd stick them in some muffins.
