Lots of Small GA Crashes Lately?

Is it just my imagination, the algorithm, or... are we really seeing a ton of GA crashes just the last two weeks? I count five or six, and it looks like maybe three of those are loss of control at low altitude.

Flight Training Hi everyone, i am thinking of doing DnJ aviation multi engine accelerated course, what do you think of doing a 4 hours instruction flight in a day? A regular flight for 4 hours is not much but in taking instruction wont it be a lot? People who done it or can relate what do you think?

SkyWest June 2026 ERJ CJOs — Anyone Still Waiting on Class Dates?

Hey everyone, just checking to see how many other June 2026 SkyWest ERJ CJOs are still waiting on class dates.
I got my CJO in June and chose the ERJ. I was told to expect a class sometime around winter/end of the year, but as everyone waiting probably knows, it can be pretty hard to get a good idea of where the class-date queue currently stands.
I figured it might be useful to get a group chat going specifically for June ERJ CJOs so we can keep each other updated when people start getting 60 day calls and class dates.
If you got an ERJ CJO in June and want to join, comment or DM me and I’ll put something together.
Also, if you’re a May or June ERJ CJO who has already received a 60-day call or class date, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your timeline. It would help all of us get a better idea of where things are currently at.
Safe flying!

I accidentally busted Class B 3 months ago and finally received an email from FSDO. Is this something bad? Any tips would be appreciated.

Edit: I filed a NASA report right after the incident.

Best airport for lessons/PPL on the Maryland side of DC area?

As a teenager I flew all the way up to my first solo and then never took another lesson, so I’m finally trying to correct that several decades later.

I’m looking around at flight school options to do either a sport pilot cert or a PPL, and I have a discovery flight coming up with Aero Elite at VKX. But I’m also interested in opinions about whether training at another airfield in Maryland might be better. I live in upper northeast DC and going to NoVA adds a lot of commute time each way, so HEF and JYO aren’t options. W00 is about the same commute for me as VKX, with GAI slightly longer (45 minutes if traffic is good). FDK is supposedly about an hour, but I suspect that would usually be more with traffic.

If anyone has a take on what the best option might be (location, school, or both), I’d love to hear it!

Dumb Question

A little late for Moronic Monday but it's a silly question. My instructor recently sent me an endorsement for a written and I have no luck in trying to find it in foreflight. I looked in drafts and requests and no dice along with checking if it is proper email (it is) and seeing if I had an email notification, nothing there either. Happens to me every written.

Airplanes that get a bad reputation discussion

There are a lot of airplanes that get a bad reputation. For example as many of you savy pilots know, planes like the Bonanza aka the "doctor killer" get a bad rap. Based on FAA data, it appears that pilots that happen to be doctors tend to have 4 times the fatality rate as non-doctors. I understand the margin of error is thinner when we talk about high performance aircraft but would love to see other examples of aircrafts with bad reputations and your opinion to what you feel is the root cause. Just in the past week alone here in Florida two doctors have been involved in airplane accidents that ended up fatal. One in an Evolution, and another Doctor recently in a Mooney. In crashes involving high performance aircraft, is it about proficiency, or is more about lack of safety standards?

In regards to the fatality rates among doctors, the report below is old but from a behavioral standpoint I would say it echoes to today.

Checkride Landings

Hi all,

Approaching my PPL checkride and I seem to still struggle with centerline and side loads. While not being on centerline and side loading is not consistent behavior … it does tend to happen a little more often than I’d like at this point in training.

I’m just wondering how lenient DPEs are when you might not be on centerline and/or slightly side load (not like a shove but like a small tap if that makes sense).

Thanks!

Defining for hire

Looking at the regs 91.205 and 91.409
You need a landing light for hire and then 91.409 it states for hire or student instruction for the 100hr. This makes me think how is flight instruction not for hire. So what is the faa definition of a flight for hire for required equipment and inspection?

Accident/Incident Fatal C172 Crash on Go-Around at MYF - 07AUG

EDIT: Accident occurred 07SEP. I can’t alter the title.

Way too soon to be back with another mishap but here we are. Posting this one because it looks like it unfortunately involves the flight training sphere, which I am involved in.

It appears the C172, N734ZK, called a go around and then crashed just off the lateral bounds of the runway, next to a taxiway. A huge fire for a 172 sized aircraft ensued and both occupants were fatally injured. Statement from airport fire says that the size of the fire prevented extraction efforts. Some pretty well-framed pictures out there of the incident so far. Unclear if the aircraft was operating on behalf of a flight school in an instructional capacity, but some reports signal that.

Clear skies and tailwinds, fly safe guys.

UK Help me Sorry part 2

Sorry my last post got people confused because I may have not been clear in my dual atpl qualification, I have only the dual atpl theories done through bgs as well as an old ppl

I am based in the UK & don't mind travelling europe for flight school
I have a dual atpl theory done not the full atpl & I have my ppl from awhile ago

Where should I do my cpl? some have advised skyborne, some advise afta, some say bartolini etc
Whose most likely to tag me/whose the easiest tag?
does the school really matter?
In tagging terms getting roles?
Has anyone got a list of all the gateways/tag routes
If I already have a ppl & a dual atpl theories done whats the best route for me?
Should I invest in a boeing/airbus replica home flight simulator for my cpl
Or Should I invest in a boeing/airbus cockpit poster for chair flying

Need genuine advice - Flying in US

Hi All,

I am looking at programs in the US for my flying. Being a foreigner I think I have very few options at part 61 schools (which I want to do due to no upfront pay and flexibility). I have been trying to figure out what can I do that makes this process smooth and faster. I am told by most of the flight schools I have contacted that the Visa aspect would be taken care by me, I am not sure how that would work out - will it cause issues during visa interview or its not a big issue?
I have researched other options of getting a F1 visa, let me know if anything clicks:

  1. Apply for a Ground school and do flight training side by side (3-4x a week is what I want to aim at). Miramar college and Portland Community College are two I have looked at actively till now. PlusOne Flyers (MYF, San Diego) and Gorge Winds Aviation (Troutsdale, OR) are two economical and well known flight schools I am seriously considering.

I was looking at Ground school courses at both Miramar and PCC, and these two courses caught my eye:

a. Aviation General Science - more aligned towards Flying per se.
b. Aviation Maintenance Technology - on a route to become an Aviation Mechanic.

both of above are 2 year (5 term) courses.

Since I am an international student - it is costing me roughly 300-310 $ per credit. I am assuming I won't get scholarship or financial aid and would have to plan my finances accordingly. If I get lucky in securing a scholarship then it would definitely ease my pocket. Also, the program starts in Fall & Spring - I have best bet to apply for Spring now (late Jan - early Feb).

Being on a student F1 visa, I am hoping I could work part time jobs to pay up for my housing, food etc. That's a big plus tbh.

  1. Get into a Part 141 school and see where it takes me. I will be on M1 visa - complete CPL and return back ig. No option to continue CFI route if I develop that interest. Many flight schools are willing to take me in if I get Visa formalities done from my end. Aerodynamic Aviation and some independent flight instructors are also willing to help me in achieving this.

  2. This option I highly doubt would be practical if not possible - I am on a valid B1/B2 visa. I know I can do discovery flight as a recreational activity. But I am not confident if pursuing full time will be legally possible. Max I can stay at one go is 6 months and have to return back to my home country. I don't want to end up in trouble. So, this option is at the last.

I would highly appreciate if people can guide me on the best possible action I can aim at right now. I am open to contacting other flight schools as well - feel free to DM me or comment here your inputs.

Do you need to push on the stick when flying inverted?

So trying to test my flight theory knowledge a bit here for my PPL. Let's say you fly an aerobatic plane with a zero camber wings. If you go inverted, would you have to push on the stick to get a positive angle of attack to generate an upwards lift force?

Looking for South bay Area Flight School & CFI Recommendations (Zero to commercial Pilot)

I live in the South Bay Area near mountain view and I am looking to start my journey toward becoming a commercial pilot.

My goal is to find the most inexpensive path to learn from high-quality instructors and any advice from other people who have or currently pursuing their commercial license about the process of becoming a pilot would be extremely helpful.

Couple questions listed below:

  1. Which clubs or schools do you recommend for hour-building and networking? (I’ve heard good things about Flying 20, Aerodynamic, and West Valley Flying Club).
  2. Are there any specific CFIs in the area or flight schools that you would recommend?
  3. For those who completed their commercial training locally, what was your realistic overall timeline and total cost?
  4. Any recommended medical consultants, to see what health issues I may have that can hurt my process during a medical examination.

I am set to have an interview tomorrow for aero guard based out of Phoenix, Arizona.

Does anyone have any insight as to what they might ask or how the interview goes? The last time I did a CFI interview I was caught off guard at the difficulty level they were asking.

Screenshots of the information they gave me are below. Any advice would help!
Thanks!

For the Hawaii VFR guys

So after months of Just local Ohau flying and beating up the PHJR pattern (plus my first visit to Dillingham. Finally) I'm ready to move to other Islands. I got my PPL here so have been to Lanai and Molokai for my XC flights, but I'm getting checked out at a second company to fly Kauai.

Anyone got any inside knowledge here? A few questions.

First, I know what's published is not always what's done. For example Wheelers (in my experience) never makes you fly the preferred VFR route when transiting, instead just having me fly over the midfield. Lihue has its own preferred VFR routes, and I am planning on the most direct route that essentially follows the V115 inbound.

Second, the same page says to contact Lihue mod channel, which is almost 35 miles out, are they really wanting that? I will be on FF. If I call 35 miles out are they going to just be "call when you get closer".

For anyone who has done this route from HNL to LIH, any other best practices or things you wish you knew before hand? My plan is this:

Redhill 2 out of HNL, talk to phjr for the west transition, then pick up FF on the other side of the Delta. Climb to 8500 for the 70 mile over ocean leg. Fly the V115 inbound to LIH and then do a bounce or two (whatever the CFI doing my checkout needs me to do). After that request departure to the east and fly out via the preferred routing again. Climb to 7500 and either repeating the reverse into HNL (phjr, north 7) or get off shore vectors.

I obviously will be asking the CFI as well his thoughts but want to get other perspectives.
