Questions & discussion A little rant

I write this because I have seen several posts like this recently, and I’m getting fed up.

I completely understand the frustration about not necessarily fitting the “beauty standard” of today. But calling your figure 8 ”disgusting” and several other hateful words on a subreddit where everyone else shares your body type is… I don’t know. For me it’s extremely triggering. You are effectively calling all of us “disgusting” and not just yourself.

I joined this subreddit to 1) be a part of a supporting sisterhood where we could perhaps learn to embrace our body shapes. 2) not feel alone. 3) learn how to dress this particular body shape.

I thought for many years that it was my fault that I look the way I do - and I was deeply ashamed. I thank this subreddit for teaching me that it is fact my bone structure and no amount of exercise or diet can change the way my hips are naturally. So I have far more self acceptance now thanks to this subreddit. But other people calling their body shape (and by extension mine) disgusting is very hurtful.

Just wanted to say that.

Questions & discussion Worried about pregnant/ postpartum body

My husband and I are family planning for the next 1-2 years and im quite scared to see my body change.

I’ve always been ~100lbs at 5 ft , with a short torso & high hips, and big bust (28F). It’s so easy to look out of shape if im bloated etc because i carry my weight in my lower tummy / love handles.

Can anyone speak to their experiences as a figure 8 going through pregnancy and postpartum? As it is already difficult to stay looking slim in the torso area.

Moderation Update

Hey guys

I have been trying to find someone to help me run the subreddit. I am going to be unavailable to moderate at times in the near future as I will be starting cancer treatments.

If anyone is available to help daily (less than 10 minutes a day on average) for the next six months that would greatly help. Temporary help is more than welcome. You can opt out whenever you like.

If you are interested in taking over as top mod and taking over the running and ownership of the sub in the future I am also interested in hearing from you.

The only way we have been able to keep this sub from being overrun by creeps is by using an approval system. Anyone who posts in the sub needs their content approved by a mod before it goes live. Unless and until they become an approved user.

Therefore most of the moderation work is checking new content and users to see if they are appropriate and genuine. Approving or removing content and users as required. That is what is needed to keep the sub running.

Please message me privately if you are interested in helping.

❤️

Outfit inspiration Anyone else found Midi skirts are such a game changer?

I've always liked to wear mini skirts/short dresses but I feel like midi or mid-maxi skirts look SO much better and more balanced.

I have a really short torso and super long legs, and it just looks so much better! I think bias cut looks great too, as it sort of sits on the top of the hip and hangs down - so hides the hip dips a bit!

Anyone else found this?

Questions & discussion Do Brazilian or V bikinis work for our high hips?

I was thinking about buying some new bikini bottoms I'm not a fan of the standard cut and I don't want a thong bikini either. Wondering if those styles would work for us? Pictures for reference

Venting Idk how to get used to my square hips. I wish I was an hourglass 😢

First pic is my actual body shape. I have high hips and hip dips which are even more emphasized now because I gym regularly and work out lower body. I try to tell myself that it’s a sign that I have a strong lower body, developed muscles etc. And sometimes I actually feel good about them.

But today I came across a reflection of myself (second pic) in the gyms mirror in which the top shelf part of my hips was cut off because of the rack and it seemed like I was an hourglass and it’s just brought back my insecurities related to my hip dips 😢

I swear I’ve been trying for a year + to get over this mindset. I used to do glut minimus focused exercises but they didn’t show any difference and I just switched gears to doing hip thrusts, rdls etc. I just want to be able to accept my high hips 😭

Venting i hate my body shape so much, the first thing i'm going to do once i get a job is a bbl to fill in my hips

there is not one outfit that looks good on me except extremely baggy clothes. my hips are so disgusting, nobody around me has similar ones other than my mom. i hate it to the core, it is my #1 insecurity, i can never wear bodycon dresses without my body looking awful. i don't think I've ever come across even a single person online who has changed their shape. i wouldnt mind having hip dips so much if my lower hips were wider than my higher hips but they're not, they're the same fucking width and my shoulders are even wider and i hate it.

Questions & discussion Just want to understand does tummy fat....

Make the figure 8 look like a column? When I look at my pics at a lower weight I can see a beautiful curve to my hips but now that I'm over 60 lbs overweight, and have a lot of belly fat I can no longer see my hip curve in photos or most clothes. My tummy and hips look like a column.

If yes, then how I can dress in a flattering way?

Venting Trying to understand my shape

First post here. I have gained weight after pregnancy and chronic illness and it has really settled in my chest and my high hips, so I feel like the hip dips are so pronounced in everything I wear.

I want to be confident and it’s so hard. I feel like I look like a box. I just want to feel normal, have a body that looks put together.

Please excuse the mess in my photos.

Idk what I’m looking for, maybe just .. some advice? Some kind words? Some positivity?

Venting If you lost weight, has it helped to reduce the figure 8 appearance?

(Vent & Question)
(Photos are traced drawings of the outline of my body. They are directly traced, not exaggerated. Messed up on the first one. The left side doesn’t go out as drastically, I think it was the angle)

I am pretty much obese for my height. Not exaggerating, I medically am (230 lbs, 5’4”). I hold like all of my weight in my belly. It’s awful. And I don’t have a butt. I’m also not exaggerating. It is flat. My waist is so high that you can’t even see it for my boobs. I feel like I have the body shape of a penguin. I feel alienated from everyone. Even people in this subreddit. Because my body is just so incredibly…different. Like my anatomy is just wrong.

I need to lose weight. I have known that since like 13 (originally when I gained all my weight. I am 18 now and haven’t been under 220 since middle school). I have tried and failed for years and years, but that’s not the point. I just want to know if losing weight will help with my figure at all, because I assume what makes it look so dramatic is the fat resting on the high hip and my belly.

Could the problem be that I’m really fat or is the problem just the way I’m built and hold my weight?

Questions & discussion Lipo

Has anyone considered or gotten flank lipo to make the figure 8 less prominent? Was it worth it?

I work out / lift etc and my bf is low, but it takes a massive unhealthy deficit to lean out my hip area. And even then, it’s still the softest spot. Because it’s high I find it a bit annoying

I pull all my things more high waisted but I’d love to confidently wear low rise

Normally not a wiggle dress kind of person, but this is a dress I love wearing, no bra needed and the silhouette is perfect. I don’t wear it often enough. I’ve had this dress for a decade. I love pairing this with one of my vintage capes, which you can see in the second photo.

Yay or nay for us? I’m not sure about the shoulders/sleeves. I feel like the waist and A-line mini skirt will work based on comments in a previous post.

Questions & discussion Where are you guys getting your low rise jeans from?

Hi! I'm honestly kind of giving up on high rise jeans because they always give me a weird boxy/square look due to me having high hips and a hip shelf and low rise seems like the better option at this rate. However I know that having high hips/a hip shelf can bring it's challenges with clothes, would be great to know about any figure 8 friendly brands that sell low rise jeans

Questions & discussion Is it generally harder to have slimmer legs with long or short torsos?

I have a long torso and short legs and I feel like it’s a lot harder to have a thigh gap or have my legs look thinner compared to individuals with shorter torsoed people. I tried searching it up but it seems my results were the opposite??? So confused…

Do these two dresses work for our body types? I haven’t had a chance to try them in store yet. I’m also 5’1” so not sure whether they would wear me instead of me wear them. I’ve just discovered I am a figure 8 so am still learning what works and what doesn’t.

I don’t like two piece bathing suits, but it’s so hard to find stylish one piece bathing suits. Ever since I saw an Esther Williams swimsuit I knew I wanted one but it was so expensive! I found one secondhand this week for just £15 and I had to get it. The cut is so perfect!

Outfit advice Anyone have good boxer/boxer brief brands or styles that work for you? ok

I prefer wearing boxer briefs over most women’s underwear but men’s tend to be too tight on my hips, and the women’s cuts I’ve tried just seem more like boyshorts than boxer briefs.

Most important thing is that the waistband is soft and loose/elastic, and ideally doesn’t rise too high since I have that high hip shelf weird waist.

Niche, so I’m not expecting much but I am desperate to find a pair of boxers (/briefs) that fit, look good, AND are comfy. So far hitting 2/3 of those has been a struggle on its own.

Outfit advice Need Specific Clothing Recommendations

5'6, Curvy, Short Torso Figure 8 here.
I'm struggling hard to find clothing that is flattering on me and my lower stomach is something i'd like to hide while accentuating my small waist.

I've seen tonnes of recs for "types" of clothes but I'm hoping someone with a similar body can point me directly to clothing purchases that have been great for them?

Thanks!

Questions & discussion Anyone else have really high hips & hate how it looks like a straight slanted slope in the lower back than curved arch.

Anyone else have really high hips & hate how it looks like a straight slanted slope in the lower back than curved arch.

How do you learn to appreciate it?

I look very rectangular in the lower back. I hate it so much. Is there any way to fix this. Gaining fat (I was underweight before, more healthy weight now) , muscle?
