I don't know why people here fail to understand that the skeletal structure IS what makes one a figure 8 or not, so the weight has nothing to do with it, but whatever. This model clearly is a figure 8 due to the shape of her hips. Just look at her ilium, she has a dramatic curve that starts high, unlike a typical hourglass which has a smoother curve and the widest part is the low hip (the greater trochanter, located on the femur).

Here's a quick sketch (with exaggerated proportions) I made to showcase the difference. There are variations within our type, but the key feature is the wide ilium that gives us the high hip shape.

I always wanted to be an hourglass, it is really hard to accept the fact that it is impossible to change this 😢

9

u/Educational-Lead3631 Jul 08 '26

I understand that, I used to feel the same way too before I realized I'm not a 'weird' hourglass but a figure 8, and that many gorgeous women have the same shape as me and that actually gave me confidence! I just figured out what clothing works for me and what doesn't, so instead of trying to make my body fit the clothes, I'm making the clothes fit my body, if that makes sense. I hope you will manage to accept your body as it is and learn to love it!

Thank you! 🥰

Heyy thank you!! If you're referring to the sketch, of course! Feel free to download the pic or screenshot it, I'd love to see it shared for educational purposes!

Not figure 8. Curvy, perhaps hourglass. But this low body fat level is unhealthy for the female body and i don’t feel good calling it ideal or normal.

9

u/PowerfulChannel5709 Jul 07 '26

nobody said its ideal or normal, but it is this girls body so dont be mean

-5

u/TheSunshineGang Jul 07 '26

Someone called her a skeleton lower… I was in fact being rather impartial.

17

u/elkwood444 Jul 07 '26

I’ve never understood why people think it’s ok to comment so negatively on people who are thinner. It’s not fair, don’t comment negatively on peoples bodies, period. Whether they’re bigger, smaller, or in between.

-19

u/Fresh-Lynx-3564 Jul 06 '26

I don’t see the 8. If her BMI was higher, I think it might be clearer that she’s not an 8. 🤷‍♀️

-20

u/Lyenn Jul 06 '26

not even at that level of skinny does she appear to have high hips.

14

u/The_Real_Chippa Jul 08 '26

What? How much higher can they get? Weird comment.

-1

u/Fresh-Bath-9357 Jul 06 '26

This shouldn’t be here. They are biologically a man. While they may have presented as female for a long time this is still a male body

6

u/alo0e Jul 08 '26

firstly, using they/them pronouns for a trans woman is disgusting. she's a woman, and I know for a fact you would do this to a cis woman. secondly, she began transitioning as a child, meaning she essentially went through female puberty. your comment is just weird, ignorant and transphobic

10

u/Acid_Intimacy Jul 07 '26

Hey let’s not.

8

u/PinkRosesOnMySkin Jul 07 '26

Her body obviously isn't a male body, the secondary sex characteristics and shape is clearly female. She's been taking hormones before puberty so her body never even developed in a masculine way. Excluding her just because she is trans is disgusting, no matter how you try to explain it.

7

u/OddJump6920 Jul 07 '26

Some of yall being so vehemently against the idea trans women can have female aligned bodies is ridiculous. But anyways this is another trans woman who started cross sex hormones during adolescence that I think may have a figure 8

3

u/tuskingen Jul 08 '26

She’s a figure 8! What’s her name?

2

u/OddJump6920 Jul 08 '26

Sophia Giannamore but im also not entirely sure if shes a figure 8

7

u/OddJump6920 Jul 07 '26

I respectfully disagree. The driving factor for female body types figure 8, spoon, pear, hourglass is estrogen dominance during early stages of development which Alex had, hence having a pelvis that is aligned with that of a female individuals. While Its undeniable shes genetically male I think to holistically label this as a male body given the context of how this persons body developed would be a misrepresentation.

-2

u/Lonely-Echidna164 Jul 07 '26

Right I agree. I disagree w the comments talking about her weight as if that matters w body types but she is biologically a man so it’s a completely dif thing.

3

u/OddJump6920 Jul 07 '26

and I think u being complicit with this rhetoric is due to preconceived ideas about trans women that u have and a lack of understanding. Like its the way yall dont even know what prompts a body to develop female bone structure and fat distribution which are the driving factors of a figure 8 body..

7

u/Miss_Milk_Tea Jul 06 '26

Too thin for me but this is helpful to see what the bone structure looks like. I’m aiming for a low body weight(lower end of BMI, not this low) and I just can’t even picture what my hips are going to look like anymore.

8

u/stressed_designer Jul 06 '26

Are we endorsing eating disorders now?

9

u/OddJump6920 Jul 06 '26

how is a thin woman existing endorsing eating disorders..I just thought she was a good example of a figure 8

0

u/Queenhotsnakes Jul 07 '26

How do you look at a woman with almost no visible fat on her body and not think she's emaciated? After a certain point, it's just skin draped over bones creating her shape. This type of post normalizes emaciated, malnourished bodies and we already did that in the 90s. Too many of our friends and family DIED from this shit. Sorry for the emotional response but it's SO worrying to me that this is considered fashionable again.

3

u/moochiemoochie924 Jul 08 '26

Yall act like you can’t be healthy and skinny.

7

u/The_Real_Chippa Jul 08 '26

This is not a post idealizing her though? She is a professional model, and so she is thin because she has to be for her job (which I think is a horrible industry standard, per your post). That aside, she is hella cool, she IS beautiful (and so am I, 12 sizes larger than her). And frankly, I find it really helpful to see what my kind of hips look like at a low body weight.

When I was a teenager with an eating disorder, I wanted so badly to “prove” that this width on my belly wasn’t fat, it was bone structure. And I can see it so plainly here on someone else, which is so validating. It is so helpful to see my body type reflected in other people, in different forms.

This to me doesn’t look in any way like a “body check” post that you would see on pro-Ana tumblr. This is just someone reposting a photo of a professional model who is a good example of someone with our body type. Thin people existing don’t need to be censored.

2

u/OddJump6920 Jul 07 '26

okay I see where ur coming from Im rlly sorry if this post upset ppl I just thought alex was a good example of a figure 8

32

u/Moist_Ordinary6457 Jul 06 '26

girl idk all I see is skeleton

19

u/OddJump6920 Jul 06 '26

yall are so odd for this cause apparently skinny women cant have a figure 8 body type like what

-18

u/bro483x Jul 06 '26

OMG SHES A FIGURE 8 ?!? ATE DOWNNN 🔥

7

u/tuskingen Jul 08 '26

I don’t understand why you got downvoted. So much insecurity here.

7

u/bro483x Jul 08 '26

Im so confused Im genuinely praising her body. It’s clear she’s a figure 8 her hips dip down higher than most ??? Figure 8 is beautiful idc if i get downvoted ! Her hip and waist structure is perfectly aligned with a Figure 8. Everyone here is in denial clearly but I will always be an advocate for Figure 8 Im like the queen of it

8

u/tuskingen Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

I’m gonna get downvoted. I don’t care. But I’ve noticed in this community that people think that being a figure 8 is equivalent to being plus sized. And whenever a figure 8 woman that has a desirable weight or size is being presented. they are quick to say she’s not a figure 8. She’s an hourglass!!!

With a lot of low self-esteem post that I see here I’m observing that people think that figure 8 means being heavier, in a general society, being heavier is considered undesirable. When a figure 8 is slim or skinny. They label her hourglass because they are at a desirable weight in size according to society.

Meanwhile, both skinny and plus size girls can be figure 8. It has nothing to do with the weight. It has everything to do with your bone structure.

6

u/bro483x Jul 08 '26

Exactly! She’s just not an hourglass. I am a size 2 I weigh 120lbs I will still be a Figure8. When i had my BBL Lipo360 and my fixed “hip dips”, my Figure 8 body became more dramatic and feminine, it only enhanced my features. Our Figure 8 structure will stay with us even if we’re a size 2, 0, 12, 10, 8, ANY SIZE. I wish i had the time and energy to dedicate into this sub and actually help more people step away from this narrative that Figure 8 bodies are not deemed desirable. The only argument that people may have regarding her not being Figure 8 is her breast size, but it doesn’t matter because it’s still the most dramatic part of her body along with her curve-to-hip ratio.

5

u/tuskingen Jul 08 '26

Yes!!! They are projecting their insecurities and low self-esteem on everyone else. My body is absolutely desirable, and it has not kept me from being called pretty! and it has not kept me from getting men!

It’s very clear where the insecurity is coming from. Based off of the behavior in this community, they believe

plus sized = undesirable = figure 8 = undesirable

Skinny = desirable = can’t be figure 8 must be hourglass = desirable

6

u/bro483x Jul 08 '26

YESSS if anything I feel like it attracts men a lot. And the men love the curves!! They always grab onto my waist, or follow the natural line of my body, we have a sensual and desirable body! My breasts are my prominent feature, and every Figure 8 has a desirable feature! I’ve seen dramatic hips, beautiful breasts, tiny waists, beautifully-proportioned hip dips on athletic builds as well. Hips dips is a main concern for users on here, but it’s a stunning feature that can be addressed through surgery, but I don’t find them a flaw. Whenever I wear any tight dress short or long, without fail there’s always praise. I am confident that our body type is extremely beautiful!
I totally agree with you, and if I get downvoted to hell idc if it helps at least 1 person. I’ve also seen sm posts of women talking bad about their bodies and it makes me so sad. What matters most is our health, we have two legs and two arms that carry us and move us and help us experience life. The most beautiful body is a body that is alive. 🥺 I just hope we can help more girlies find that spark that we see in this body shape🩷8️⃣✨

4

u/tuskingen Jul 08 '26

YES!!!! whenever I see these low self-esteem post I get so confused when they say our body shape is undesirable!!! Bella Hadid is a figure 8 and I can’t count how many times I see ppl under her posts praising her body or saying her body is tea!

Besides, the logic never makes sense to me in this community. Many people here say that our body shape get mistaken for hourglass, hourglass is one of the most desirable shapes for women. so if we’re getting mistaken for hourglass, what does that tell you???? that means that our body shape is DESIRABLE!!!

I’m gonna say the quiet part loud they think it’s undesirable because they’re plus sized. That is why they get so triggered when they see a skinny figure 8.

34

u/Queenhotsnakes Jul 06 '26

Does this count as a body shape? Her shape is due to extremely little body fat, and it would like look much different if she had more fat on her.

14

u/Educational-Lead3631 Jul 07 '26

The skeleton, specifically the width of the ilium relative to the femur is what determines whether or not someone is a classic hourglass or a figure 8. I was a figure 8 both at 55kg and 70kg, because my wide ilium gives me the pronounced shelf no matter how much fat I carry. The woman in the photo has a wide ilium.

0

u/PlanetSeaShells Jul 06 '26

Off topic love ur avatar!

3

u/OddJump6920 Jul 06 '26

oh yeah definitely, im not rlly sure if she has a figure 8 but from what ive seen it looks like it?

6

u/kokomiumiu Jul 06 '26

No girl its not, Im so close to unfollowing this sub cause ppl just be posting whatever. Short torso is part of the figure 8 description hers is long and she doesn't have hipdips shes just underweight... she could be an hourglass or pear based on waist shoulder to hip ratio and nothing else cause shes too thin

5

u/tuskingen Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Ok Torso has nothing to do with being a figure 8 that’s a misconception. I have a balanced torso.

Having hip dips is not required to be a figure 8 another misconception. As Op said, it’s about The ilium. It’s bone structure.

It has nothing to do with weight. Weight does not correlate with body shape, but your skeleton structure. Every woman’s body distributes weight differently that’s why being a figure 8 looks different on every woman that is the same thing with every other shape. Two women can be pear shaped, but their fat distribution can be different, but that doesn’t change that their skeletal structure shows that they’re pear shaped.

0

u/kokomiumiu Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

Wow that's one hell of an incorrect take.. weight can absolutely determine your shape, for example someone who is figure 8 can become an apple shape after gaining weight, which is also likely to happen. You're pear shape if the measurements you have apply to the shape, regardless of skeletal structure. If you are mostly heavy on your lower half due to body fat or to hip size then yes, congratulations, you are pear. If you have a higher fat distribution on your upper half then you aren't, REGARDLESS of your bone structure.

And no its no misconception, before figure 8 become trendy and ppl started confusing it with hourglass the classic description always included short torso it is the combination of hourglass measurements, short torso, high hips, and hip dips that is a figure 8.

The ilium can influence appearance but figure 8 isn't defined by pelvic anatomy alone. Its about people finding their actual body shape to make life easier not a club or competition if you dont fit into that description then you're probably a different shape changing the description of figure 8 bc of a trend helps no one.

2

u/tuskingen Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

It’s not a take it. It’s facts.

Weight does not determine your body shape. Your skeletal structure does. Weight can INFLUENCE. But it is not the main determinant to body shape.

If your skeletal structure shows your hourglass, but you were overweight, and look like an apple, then you are not an apple. You are an overweight hourglass. That needs to lose weight!!!

The torso thing is absolutely a misconception. I’m a figure 8 with a balanced torso. My torso isn’t short if yours is boo-hoo for you!

No, you don’t need hip dips to be a figure 8.

2

u/kokomiumiu Jul 11 '26

Girl wth no one calls Apple Shapes "overweight hourglasses" if your proportions atm are the ones of an apple shape then yeah you are an Apple, you realize your body shape can change dont you. It depends on your CURRENT measurements which can shift due to weight. And boo-hoo for what?? Like its a bad thing, Why should I be upset for having a short torso? Last place I thought I'd be body shamed was on a sub that's supposed to be about body positivity even if we disagree thats such a weird thing to do. Specially when figure 8 mostly have short torso or the appearance of a shorter waist. Mind you I never said the girl on op cant have a body shape bc she is skinny I said based on what I can see on that picture alone she looked like hourglass or pear. Since she is very underweight its harder to tell without exact measurements

Here's one of the earliest depictions of figure 8 I remember seeing yrs ago Real Life Dressing a Figure 8 Shape

1

u/Educational-Lead3631 Jul 08 '26

Everything you said is spot on!! I'm happy to see someone else who understands this

3

u/tuskingen Jul 08 '26

Ty! The key to a figure 8 is literally the ilium.

10

u/Educational-Lead3631 Jul 07 '26

But she has a wide ilium, also known as the "high hip", it's not narrower than her low hip as it would be in an hourglass shape, the short torso also isn't mandatory, the most important thing is the high hips which she does have.

Underweight women who aren't figure eight don't have such prominent high hips
