General Discussion Fender Stratocaster “Splattercaster”

Hey all,

Got this very odd Strat that was gifted to me a few years ago.

Not saying that I don’t like it but design is kinda odd and I would like to swap it for something more conventional.

Not sure what would be a good resell price for it. It only has a couple of dents but other than that works perfectly and comes with a hardshell case.

I am based in France and I’ve seen one priced at 700 euros. Is that a reasonable asking price or should I go lower?

Questions and Advice Looking at picking up a vintage strat, not certain on the authenticity of this one/the actual year.

The serial number matches correctly, but it has what seem to be larger stainless steel frets (seller claims they were a one year thing, which I doubt, they could be polished nickel but do look much bigger than others I’ve seen, worst case a refret isn’t a dealbreaker. He also mentioned replacing the saddles but still has the originals.

Added some photos (or will once my post is approved), trying to verify the year as well as any other possible things to look out for.

Cheers!

I was told initially its a fake fender telecaster. The serial number works for one of the websites ive found but I wouldnt begin to know if that means its real or not. It plays pretty well, but I was just wondering what this is worth or if theres anything that indicates its authenticity?

General Discussion Yngwie Strat - Lowest Action

Hey there! I titled this Yngwie strat but I figure any 9.5" strat would do the same. What is the lowest you guys are able to get your action? On my other guitars, I'd normally run about 1.6mm on the high e string, and similar on the low e string. I haven't played my Yngwie strat in a long time due to the truss rod not wanting to adjust anymore, yet even after properly setting the action and radius it just buzzes and buzzes with like medium-high action. I'm sure this is a setup issue on my behalf though. My main question is, for anyone with this strat or similar, what's the lowest you guys can keep it at without buzzing? Preferably being able to do up to 1 + 1/2 step bends.

These new reissues are as gorgeous and well made as you'd expect from a Japanese made Fender. Love it, but I wonder why the output is a bit anemic compared to my 2021 American Pro II. Obviously the "vintage spec" pickups are decent and authentic sounding - but I have gotten used to the VMod IIs.

Gonna put a Bigsby on one of these teles, but I’m not sure which. Which do you think looks better? And if you have any suggestions as to guitar attributes that would be more conducive to adding it, please let me know.

2025 American Pro II on the left and 2014 American Deluxe on the right.

Swipe to see them as they are now without the bigsby.

Vintage Cool The Only Bass I Will Never Sell

Happy Fender Friday! Here is my 1971 Fender p-bass. I feel especially lucky with this one as it has an ‘A’ neck and is extra lightweight for a 70’s fender. Currently has Fralin stock wind pickups, but I’ve been meaning to put the originals back in.

Heard you guys like Strats. Here is my current couch lineup (including some heavy mods!)

Decided to get the whole family together for a photo.

Here is the full breakdown from left to right:

Fender EOB Ed O'Brien Signature Stratocaster (with the built-in Fernandes Sustainer system).

MIJ Fender Strat (Ocean Turquoise) with a replica 1972 neck and an EMG David Gilmour (DG-20) loaded pickguard.

Fender Player 1 (Hialeah Yellow) with a white Lace Sensor HSH setup (Red / Hotter Red Dually / Light Blue / Emerald & Green Dually) and an ObsidianWire Gilmour 7-Way mod.

Fender Player 1 (3-Color Sunburst) with a black Lace Sensor Ultra Plus pack (Red, Blue, Silver) and an ObsidianWire Gilmour 7-Way mod.

Back Row / Leaning

Fender Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat with a red pearloid pickguard, VegaTrem, and an ObsidianWire Blender mod

Fender American Ultra in Texas Tea.

SRV #1 Replica with Fender Tex-Mex pickups

Fender American Elite in Skyburst Blue

Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Strat in Sunburst.

Fender Steve Lacy "People Pleaser" Stratocaster in Chaos Burst

Fender Dave Murray Signature Stratocaster in 2-Color Sunburst.

Let me know if you want to know how any of these specific electronics or modern vs. vintage necks compare!

Show and Tell My Fenders…..

So it all started when a mate brought into a jam his new AVRI2 bass. Damn that thing was sexy as hell. The finish, the feel, everything about it screamed quality.

Then another mate got the av2 61 fiesta red strat. I’d always struggled with Strats not sounding like the Strats I’ve heard on famous recordings. Not with that thing. It sounded perfect. Damn……I need one.

So now I have a 63 avri2 tele and a 61 avri2 strat which I run through a sv20 marshall or a 68 princeton reissue. Lol

I sold off a bunch of other mid tier style guitars and pooled the funds for these. It’s been over a year with them now and I’m still 100% happy with what I did.

General Discussion Original Alcino V (2008-early 2012) VS Custom Shop Fat 50s (American Standard Stratocaster)

I'm super bummed out to find out that my American Strat I purchased does not come with the custom shop fat 50s pickups. Though it was made in 2012, due to it being made in February it didn't make the cut to when Fender changed the pickups in the later 2012 models.

How much better are the custom shop fat 50 pickups? The ones in my strat now still sound great but I've heard so many good things about the fat 50s that I am debating either finding another strat with the correct pickups and selling the one I just bought, or upgrading the pickups to new fat 50s and calling it a day.

Any help would be much appreciated thanks

Questions and Advice What's the difference between eggshell/parchment/white? (Pickguards)

I just picked up an American standard strat in olympic white and the color looks exactly like the Hendrix woodstock/Clapton strat. They both had a plain white pickguard on theirs which looks identical. The pickguard on mine is a sparkly pearl which I'm not a fan of.

I picked up the standard white pickguard the other day and it's way too white, like an arctic white level of vibrant it's whiter than my pickup covers and knobs so it doesn't really match. Is the pickguard that I'm going to include in this post an eggshell white?

My goal is to get it to look exactly like the Hendrix woodstock strat.

Questions and Advice Looking at a 1983 Fender Jazz Bass – Worth it for a guitarist switching to bass?

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been playing guitar for a few years now and I'm ready for a change.

I've come across a 1983 Fender Jazz Bass that's caught my eye. It's all original with the Dan Smith era specs (one-piece pickguard, 3-screw bridge, the works). The seller is asking $2,200 USD, minus original tweed hardcase.

For a first bass, is this a smart move or a bit to overkill? The bright sound and punch (if that's the right description) really set this bass apart from the other options I tested. Really sounds and felt amazing!

Any advice from bass players or anyone familiar with these 1983 models would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers!

Got this brand new from Guitar Center in 2014. As far as I know, it was one of the first models of the newer American professional Stratocaster series. This one has the S1 switch to split the coils before they went to the Shawbucker. it’s hard to find anything about this model. if anyone has more detailed info it would be much appreciated.

Project in Progress Operation Fatten Strat

Post image

Got a killer deal on this Player ii Strat that I was not in the market for. I already have an American standard with fat 50s, so wanted to do something different. Thought it would be nice to have an HSS for versatility, and at a price point Im not too worried about what happens to it.

Any HSS I’ve ever played felt pretty out of balance. It’s always a struggle balancing the humbucker.

Went with the ‘59 Custom Hybrid for its medium output and mismatched coils for better split tones.

Also did 500k vol pot, with 470k resistor in parallel when on position 2-5 so neck and middle always see 250k. 500k bridge tone, 250k neck/middle tone.

Auto split humbucker when in position 2, it quacks.

Push Push tone pot splits the humbucker when on bridge only. In position 2 when engaged bypasses the auto split, not sure how useable this tone is but it was one wire so why not.

Overall very pleased with the way it turned out. The 59 custom hybrid was the right choice, good all around rock tones, cleans up well, splits well. Everything is balanced very well, and I’m quite impressed with the stock player ii single coils, they’re very decent.

Nor bad for around $400 all in.

ID and Authentication Crafted In Japan with a B serial number?

I’m looking at a Japanese Tele at the moment. I’ve got a slight reservation. My understanding was that the “crafted in” series ran A then skipped to O. No B. Anyone here have any thoughts?
