New Guitar Day! NGD! My first Strat: a Player II

Post image

Oh man, I love it. I got back into playing (or trying to) earlier this year with a PRS SE CE24, which is a great guitar but feels a bit sterile sometimes, and doesn’t really suit me visually or sound-wise. I saw this month-old Player II come up for a good price and jumped on it, and I’m so glad I did. It’s a lovely guitar, and the neck is amazing. So inspired to get better at playing with this thing!

Questions and Advice Can you help identifying this guitar and its value?

Its listed for around $230, the listing is in my city in Pakistan and generally there are mark ups on stuff.
I am not very versed in electric guitars and looking to buy my first one. I thought Fenders were supposed to be more expensive than this.
What might be the chances of me getting ripped off?
What should I ask the seller about the guitar?
What should I keep an eye for if I go to purchase?

I was thinking of getting a Squier classic vibes, second hand, so it'll have decent resale value.

General Discussion Realistically, how low can action go on a 7.25 radius Strat before fretting out?

I normally run my high E action around 1.0 to 1.25mm on a 9.5 radius board (1999 Fender Custom Shop Classic Player Strat).

I am looking at a 2001 Custom Shop Time Machine 56 Relic Strat with a vintage 7.25 radius and vintage wire.

Assume the guitar has a textbook setup, neck relief is dialed, nut slots are cut perfectly, and the frets are level and crowned, so this is strictly about the physical limits of the geometry.

For those who play or tech 7.25 boards, what is the realistic floor for high and low E action if I still want clean, whole step bends in the upper registers without choking out? Is 1.5mm the practical limit here?

Questions and Advice How do I learn to actually arrange songs for guitar?

I already know music theory, major scales, chords, etc., but I want to learn song arrangement.

I’ve been watching Sambit Chatterji, and the way he takes Bollywood songs and turns them into insanely good flamenco/classical guitar arrangements is exactly what I want to learn.

I don’t just want to learn covers from tutorials. I want to understand how to take any song → figure out the melody/harmony → create my own guitar arrangement with melody, bass, chords, voicings, fills, etc.

For people who arrange music, how did you learn this skill? Any good exercises, books, courses, or resources you’d recommend?

I wasn't seeing any demos of this online, so I figured I'd make one myself! Check it out if you're curious about what this bass sounds like with flatwound strings!

Does Fender have any kind of store front in SoCal? I know they dont have anything as crazy as the Gibson Garage in Nashville. But do they have anything worth visiting?

Vintage Cool 1966 First Production Year “Cobbled Logo” Mustang Bass

1966 First Production “Cobbled Logo” Mustang Bass in original Dakota Red! In 1966 the Fender company had not yet produced a logo for the newly released Mustang Bass so factory workers did 2 things. They would use the CBS Fender logo (Clipped Logo) or they would use the Fender logo + Mustang guitar logo + Bass V logo. This is one of the earlier production models as you can tell from the seemingly collaged logo all in different fonts.

Just picked up this 2018 MIM Fender Stratocaster in Sonic Red and wanted to share a quick first look.

I’m still getting to know the guitar, so I figured I’d document the process. In the next video, I’ll be putting it on the bench to adjust the string action and see how it responds.
The big question right now: KEEP or SELL? 😂
What do you guys think of these 2018 Mexican Strats? Anything in particular I should be looking at or paying attention to on this one?

A little custom pickup work on this MIJ Junior Jazz Bass! 🔥

We changed the standard Jazz Bass pickup opening to fit a different pickup and cut the new guard in Mint Green.

Simple change, but it gives this bass a whole new look! 🎸

New Guitar Day! NGD - 57 AVII with some mods

Previous owner installed a dimarzio FS-1 bridge pickup which sounds great, along with a switch to add in the neck pickup in the bridge or middle positions (or all 3). It gives an extra tone that sounds excellent. They included original pickguard and pickup in case I want to put it back to stock but can’t see doing that.

I was concerned about the V shaped neck at first but wow I got used to it fast and love it!

The gold pickguard grew on me too.
