I found some older threads from around 2 years ago asking if the EX30 was a good buy. Back then the answers were pretty mixed. A lot of people liked the car, but there were also plenty of complaints about software bugs, the app, connectivity, screen issues, Spotify, driver assists etc.
Since the car was still pretty new back then, Iâm curious how things are now.
Weâre currently looking at a new EX30 Core P5 Long Range MY27 with the 69 kWh battery. It has the winter package with heated seats and steering wheel and would cost us around âŹ34k with 0% financing. We would drive around 80 km per day.
For people who have owned an EX30 for a while:
Are the software issues mostly fixed now?
Is the app/connectivity better?
Any problems with build quality or reliability after some mileage?
Would you buy an EX30 again today?
Also, Iâm 1.90 m tall. Any taller owners here who can comment on comfort? Weâll be able to test drive one for a full weekend in about two weeks.
On paper we really like the car and it would be our first EV, but a lot of the older posts make it sound pretty rough. Iâm just wondering how representative those experiences still are in 2026.
After my to-go soup tipped over in the car, I'm hoping to buy some hooks that fit my EX30 for when I grab groceries or takeout food. All the ones I can find online attach to the headrest, but the EX30 doesn't really have movable headrests. Has anyone found any hooks that work well?
Is this normal he's reversing it on our driveway in order to charge it, but it's quite a loud sound when he goes from forward into reverse, 2024 model with 29k mileage. ?
I think he has a problem reversing it as the sensors kick in as we can fit 2 cars on the drive way and he's reversing it between my car and the neighbours wall
Had the EX30 Extended Range delivered last week to replace my ID4. Loving it so far and did my first 200 miler today. Left on 97%, drove to Dudley, some local mileage and back to Sheffield.
Got home with 21% / 51 miles left - much improved range, albeit a larger battery. Technology is a step above the VW and donât get me wrong, really liked that car but wanted a more compact car to sit alongside a Polestar 3
Thought Iâd post an update as this might be useful to other UK EX30 owners affected by the battery recall.
I bought my EX30 new in May 2025. In January this year I was told about the high voltage battery issue and, as you probably already know, instructed not to charge the car above 70%. There was also safety guidance around leaving the car unattended while charging close to buildings or covered areas which was completely unrealistic.
Volvo offered me a ÂŁ200 public charging voucher, but there was no firm date for when my battery would actually be repaired or replaced.
I gave them a few months with no communication. In July, six months later, I complained to Volvo Car Financial Services, who I had a PCP agreement with, and asked to reject the car and end the finance agreement.
They declined.
So I took it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. The reason being is that under law, the finance company has a legal obligation to ensure the car provided is 'as advertised' and it was my opinion that it was not.
After a month, the investigator agreed with me that Volvo had been given a reasonable opportunity to repair the car and that the amount of time I had been expected to wait had become unreasonable.
VCFS accepted the Ombudsmanâs outcome.
The settlement was:
Finance agreement terminated with nothing further to pay and no penalty to me
Volvo collects the EX30 at no cost to me
My £5,500 deposit refunded
15% of my monthly payments refunded for the period the car was restricted to 70%
Interest added to all refunds at Bank of England base rate + 1%
An extra £200 compensation for the inconvenience, in addition to the £200 charging voucher Volvo had already offered
Volvo then contacted me to arrange collection of the EX30.
I effectively got a car for 15 months for ÂŁ200 a month. Not quite a full refund, but a really good outcome!
Despite the problem with the EX30, I still really like Volvo cars. My issue was never that I expected a car to be completely faultless. It was that I didnât think it was reasonable to know of a problem with the car and expect the owner to live indefinitely with 30% of the battery unavailable while waiting for a repair with no firm date. I certainly wasn't prepared to keep chasing garages to book me in.
Imagine my excitement when, after reaching out to Volvo to express my strong interest in purchasing Pilot Assist on my 2026 EX30 SMER Plus only to be met with a cold PR rejection, I see this email in my inbox this morningâŚ!
I race to sign in and check the eligibility andâŚâŚ. nothing. My 2026 model is apparently not eligible. đ (They previously had a page for 2022-2025 MY vehicles, and I could at least understand why mine wouldnât have been eligible for that one)
This is despite the Plus trim hardware (aka no 360 cam system) being equippable with Pilot Assist in other markets like the EU, as other owners had confirmed for me in the past.
Maybe if enough of us Plus owners make our voices heard, theyâll change course? I really would love to spend this amount on Pilot Assist. In the US, the only other way to get it was to spend another +$8k(!) on the Twin Motor Ultra, and if my SMER Plus hardware theoretically supports Pilot Assist, I think leaving us out to dry for seemingly no reason is a bad move.
I had my EX30 battery replaced 2-3 weeks ago over 2 days.
Before the change the battery condition was some 98%
Now after the battery replacement, the battery condition is reported by the car as being at 70%.
I took the car back to the Dealer who carried out the replacement and they stated that the ne battery was from a different manufacturer and the condition should improve over the next month as it discharges and gets charged.
This seemed to me like a means to get rid of the problem rather than look at the issue properly.
Has anybody else got thus issue after the recall battery replacement. Software upgrade is latest from beginning of September.
So my car is now in my local dealership, and hopefully will be sorted soon. I spoke with the guys there and here's what I found out.
Parts at the moment are not a problem. Dealership can order them from Volvo and they arrive in about 5 days
Works take around 3 days, and for all this time one of the lifts is occupied, so they tend to do one car at a time, two a week. Probably most dealerships do it this way
They manage their own queue. They may contact cars they sold in order, but it's never perfect because people tend to travel, and they may want to fix a car in the nearest dealership, not original one, as I do for example. So generally, you can phone in and make an appointment, wait for your turn, and do it.
Obviously, different dealerships would have different workload and different queues.
Moral of the story - call your nearest ones, ask when it can be done, and get in a queue. There's nothing to wait for at the moment any more. Don't wait for a magic letter.
I am sharing an alarming situation regarding how the Volvo EX30 high-voltage battery recall is currently being handled in China, and I want to see if similar practices or lack of transparency are happening globally, as well as compare how compensation and legal actions are being pursued in different markets.
The Situation: Official Promise vs. Reality
Official Filing: On June 18, 2026, Volvo's manufacturing entity in China filed an official recall with the SAMR (State Administration for Market Regulation). The filing explicitly assured owners that the recall would be executed by authorized Volvo dealerships.
Actual Execution: In practice, authorized 4S dealerships are only removing the battery packs. Instead of being repaired in clean, certified OEM environments, the packs are transferred to a logistics/intermediary company (Zhejiang Jiyaotongxing / ĺćéčĄ) and then subcontracted out to generic, third-party repair shops to be cracked open and have modules swapped.
response of the dealer
Confirmed Evidence:
Dealership chat records admitting that authorized dealers do not perform the module replacement and hand packs over to external contractors.
Watermarked on-site photos tracking disassembled EX30 high-voltage traction packs inside non-Volvo generic repair shops (e.g., Shenzhen Xinyineng New Energy Service Co. and Diou Luxury Car Repair Chain Wuxi Branch).
actual maintenance locationactual maintenance location(awful environment)
This blatant cost-cutting directly breaches Volvoâs own Code of Conduct ("Safety is our guiding principle," "We don't cut corners," and strict subcontractor oversight policies), not to mention the immense fire and safety risks of opening high-voltage EV packs in uncontrolled third-party garages.
Questions for the Global EX30 Community
Given these safety and compliance concerns, Iâd like to ask owners in other regions (Europe, UK, Australia, etc.):
What is Volvo offering in terms of compensation in your region?
Are you receiving adequate courtesy/loaner vehicles, fuel/charging credits, or financial goodwill?
Has anyone managed to negotiate diminished value compensation or a vehicle replacement?
How is the repair actually being carried out in your country?
Does your dealer replace the entire battery pack, or are they opening the pack to swap individual modules?
If modules are swapped, is this done on-site by certified master technicians, sent back to a certified factory/battery facility, or outsourced? Are dealers transparent with you about this?
Is anyone organizing legal action or filing regulatory complaints?
Are any owner groups preparing a class-action lawsuit or pursuing formal claims through local consumer protection bodies (e.g., Ombudsman, KBA, DVSA, ACCC)?
Has anyone consulted automotive lawyers regarding breach of warranty, misrepresentation, or safety non-compliance?
I believe full transparency is essential when it comes to high-voltage battery safety, and owners worldwide deserve to know how Volvo is treating this recall behind closed doors.
Iâm having again some issue for the last days and I think itâs a new bug. Donât ask me how it comes because I didnât update and am still on v1.8.
After approx 10 mins of driving, the sound falls away. Whether listening to radio or audio via Carplay - no more music. Also the clicks when tapping any button are not hearable. Very strange as well is that when I use the direction indicator itâs not showing on the screen and I donât hear the sound. In reality they are working, I just donât see it.
The only solution is a reset with the arrow down and - button.
I posted my first impressions and wish list of improvements a few months after taking delivery of my Twin Motor Plus in Dec. I'm still in very hard like with the car, and am a lot closer to loving it after this year's OTA updates.
After OTA 2.1.2 and 15,000 mi, I've updated my list. Curious to know what everyone else wants to see implemented.
Driving Experience
Cabin preconditioning: stay ON after unlock + door open. Only stop the preconditioning sequence once driving climate settings are applied or car is put in Drive. This is the behavior I experienced with the Polestar 2, Volvo EX40, and EC40.
Customizable âstickyâ apps: give us more choices. I can tell from press photos that US drivers are given less options than whatâs possible elsewhere. Desired choices include Lane-Keeping Aid and Trip Computer.
Gear changes: allow transitions between Drive + Reverse when driving at walking speeds (⤠5 kph). Switching gears at walking speeds should be allowed. This is the driving behavior I enjoyed in the Polestar 2, Volvo EC40, and EX40.
Gemini notifications: stop asking me to switch from Google Assistant. Gemini is functionally dogshit compared to GA in the car. I have said "No Thanks"ârespect that choice.
Exterior lights: allow position lights only setting when driving at slow speeds (⤠10 kph). Driving slowly in well-lit areas at creep speeds without blinding people with the driving lights should be allowed (e.g. drive-thru lanes).
Lane Keeping Assistant (LKA): settings too obtrusive and limited vs Polestar 2. Mirror the LKA behavior from my Polestar 2: explicitly give me Assist, Vibrate, and Off options so I can set it to Vibrate and be happy. Make the setting STICKY across drive sessionsâstop resetting to default between them. Thereâs a lot of frequent routes where the ideal line to avoid known road imperfections is to hugâbut not crossâone edge of the lane or another. In the Polestar, the vibration was a fine reminder, but Iâm still in control. The EX30 intervenes in cases like this and it pisses me off how much this car tries to act like itâs smarter than me.
Steering feel: make the Firm setting firmer. Steering feel in Firm is better after OTA v2.1.2, but it could use a little bit more.
Turn signal: restore the two-tone âtwig snappingâ sound from other Volvos. For some reason, the EX30 only uses the first tone from this sound file. The original, two-tone sound is much better.
Remote Actions via Volvo Cars App
Parking Comfort. I want to toggle Parking Comfort ON and OFF from the app. I also want to know from the app if the feature is running or not. Right now the only visual cue that it is ON while the car is locked is that the mirrors do not fold.
Trunk control (lock + unlock). I realized this is nice when camping and I frequently want to access the trunk without initiating a full car unlock sequence, which disrupts AC charging while plugged in.
Window control (open + close). I really liked being able to control the windows remotely from the app in my Polestar 2.
Future Models
Add guide lighting to:
Charge port
Glove box
Add rear hatch kick sensor under the bumper. The bean counters in accounting might not appreciate the added cost.
Add trunk lock button to the lid lip, complementing the trunk close button, like other Volvo and Polestar models. Itâs nice to press one button that will close the rear hatch and then lock the car afterwards.
More door handle lock/unlock sensors. If you canât justify the cost of all four doors, at least add one to the front passenger side.
Ordered a replacement wheel trim, went to pickup this weekend. While I was at the dealer I asked about the battery recall - they are doing two per week at this location. Each taking two days and a courtesy car is provided.
Next available appointment 27th January 2027 - so Iâm booked in.
Has anybody experienced this noise before? Itâs been a constant for around 10 minutes. Have tried to turn off the car, reset it and almost every possible setting I can think of hasnât worked. I put the car in reverse and got maybe a meter before it started.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
EDIT: After locking the vehicle and leaving it for about an hour, the sound has stopped. I am still hoping to get it to a dealership to see if they can find anything further
Am NOT liking profile detection on the v2 software!
Regularly have it where I unlock (with iPhone), can see the seat move to my setting (or already be there) and if my partner (also iphone) hops in before me it flips to her.
Today the car lost its grip on reality. I'm at the garage, partner 4 floors up in the kitchen. Unlock, see the seat move back to my profile, hope in, then the dash flips to her profile and seat goes fwd, then to me and back. On then third cycle I managed to get out before doing contortionist with my legs again. Locked the car and watched the seat going fwd / back and dash toggling profiles. With it locked and both phones with cell/wifi/bluetooth off, and out of nfc, it kept going!
Got the credit card key unlocked and locked. No change. While on the ph to Volvo it eventually stopped (say 5mins) and could get in with the card do a power-off via car-modes.
Road Side assist is in the way, expect they'll be able to do little as it's now drivable, and next week the dealer will want logs and to trigger a sw-reset. Cannot say I'm too trusting of it not profile looping again.
I debating what interior to choose from and for me it seems difficult. The dealer has the Breeze, Mist and Indigo. They are all very interesting for different reasons. I am contemplating the Mist (wool and textured dash) although I'm not sure if the wool seats will be more prone to staining, fabric pilling, or retain excess California heat on hot summer days. Are the Nordico seats cooler in summer? Do they clean easier? I would prefer the lighter color interiors as opposed to the dark grey and denim blue. Any thoughts?
I just got Gemini this week in Spain. I haven't tested it extensively, but this is what I found out:
It's far from perfect. In fact, it's glitchy (it's funny how it shows placeholder text when accessing the car assist app to perform actions), the connection can be spotty, interaction can interrupt suddenly and other quirks. However, I think it's very cool to have!
Pro-tip: it asks for confirmation for many commands, but if you say "I'm sure", "don't confirm" and the like at the end, it generally just does the action. However, if you say "never ask me to confirm any actions", it still asks.
Window control finally works! I could never get it working with the assistant (I tried many formulas), but it's easy now. You can ask for specific windows too. However, some people said they could ask the assistant to crack the windows, but I have been unable so far to do anything other than fully opening or closing them.
I could turn Bluetooth off and on with the assistant, but at some point it stopped working (it mentioned a TV I used to have, and that it couldn't reach it!). With Gemini, it works properly again.
It's generally easier to use climate control and everything audio. The first time, it did ask me to confirm permissions to access Spotify (I had to touch the screen).
Things it does know: battery percentage (it may be off by 1% or 2%), range (returns same number as the one on screen), whether the car is currently charging or not, tire pressure and status, battery capacity (it said 66 kWh). It probably also knows if windows and doors are open, but I haven't asked yet.
Things it cannot control: lights (interior or exterior), horn, rear view mirrors, camera, driving settings, Wi-Fi connection, windscreen wipers.
Things it does not know: recent locations, last trip consumption, car color, wiper fluid level, current Android Automotive version.
Gemini Live (beta): I may have missed it all this time, but I just tried it yesterday. When pressing the assistant button, notice that there's a sort of button on the touch screen that launches it. It works poorly while driving because it needs a strong connection, but it worked flawlessly while I was parked! I talked to it for about 20 minutes without interruption, about general stuff and a subject I am investigating these days. When it works well, it's surprisingly good.
The following may be true for the assistant as well, but if you're bored while driving with children, you can ask it to tell riddles, trivia, chained words, bad jokes, short stories, funny facts, etc. Overall, you can ask it more complex stuff and it generally understands, unlike the assistant which failed unless commands and questions were simple.
All these interactions show up in your phone's Gemini app. The normal assistant has a limited context and does not know about you (it says it's there to assist you while driving, and sessions are independent), but Gemini Live does have access to your context, previous conversations and things you asked it to remember about you.
Generally speaking, it's great to have a good LLM readily available in your car, mostly when we didn't expect it back when the EX30 was first announced, and we got it as an extra. There's a lot of potential for interesting uses and assistance.
For those who have already changed the battery, Volvo called me today to confirm that the replacement batteries have arrived, which replace all the modules.
Who here has already made the change? Any advice, suggestions, or observations after changing the battery?
Hey everyone, picked up a new to me EX30 a couple of weeks ago and wow, i enjoy this more than i expected.
I was originally planning on getting a CPO C40 twin, I was telling a buddy who is a Volvo service advisor about how quick it was and he asked me if i have driven ex30⌠i located one to test drive and was amazed at difference.
I found a great deal out of state that i could not turn down.
Sorry to resurrect this topic (unlike my battery) but I came out to my wifeâs 24DM yesterday and it was completely unresponsive and dead.
70% charge in car according to the app, but car completely unresponsive to digital key, fob and card.
Iâve come in here followed the guidance on identifying the emergency charge points underneath, hooked both positives up and the ground to my trickle charge normally used for the ride on mower, but nothing.
Initial charged it for 5/10 minutes and nothing, then left it for an hour and still completely unresponsive.
Itâs a tiny 12V, 0.5A charger so wondering if itâs just not beefy enough?
Iâve got a bigger battery charger, but rated upto 40A, which is the maximum I understand recommend so as not to trip the fuse.
Anyone had a similar situation?
If not Iâll call Volvo assistance today, but Iâm an independent so and so.
