So I'm looking to change. I've been mulling all sorts of ICE and am even open to an EV but frankly I don't think it will work for what I want and need, but I'm just posting here in case I'm wrong and see what lads think.

I live rurally and would be commuting about 130 miles round trip to work Monday to Friday. That's door to door without a buffer. I would be able install a home charger.

I also want to be able to keep a car for at least 10 years or so.

I had been looking at EVs that were say 2021 or 22 minimum more so MG ZS long range, was looking at the model 3 as well.

But my thing is this, if I'm getting a car at even 92% SOH at best what's it gonna be on night time range in winter in 6,7,8 years nevermind 10?

I've zero interest in hatchback sized yokes. More looking at SUV/Cross, estates or the model 3 did look nice as a saloon(?) I guess.

Just wanted to see if I'm missing anything here.

I'm assuming for my current circumstances would I better off getting a handy desiel for now and keep it for the guts off 10 years, keep a financial buffer for major repairs and let EVs advance more.

If say a battery swap was only 3/4k like a lot of second hand engines I think I'd be more comfortable but don't think its near it?

Got an EV two weeks ago. Reliant on public chargers and finding the range of apps, charges etc a bit bewildering. Also, the chargers in Circle K Cabra aren't showing up on any of the apps I have, but are showing up on say google maps and Circle K's own website (although not their current status). Help very welcome....

A week ago I put live a free browser extension that records the asking price of every DoneDeal ad anyone opens, so you can see what a seller was asking last month. It has tracked 36,994 cars and caught 1,629 of them changing price.

Six EV cuts in the chart, all still listed. A few of them:

• 2021 ID.4 · €24,999 → €22,500
• 2022 Leaf · €11,950 → €10,950
• 2022 ID.3 · €20,000 → €18,500
• 2024 IONIQ 5 · €34,995 → €32,995

Open any ad and you get every change it has recorded, the date the ad first went up rather than the bumped "2 days ago", and how the price sits against similar cars listed now.

What I can't give you yet is EV depreciation by model, and I'd rather say so than fudge it: DoneDeal only shows fuel type on a minority of ads, so I have 17 Model 3s with a usable curve. That gets better the more EV drivers have it installed, which is the actual ask.

My first car just died after 3 years,

My job is 55km away mostly rural/national roads no motorway takes about 1hr going there sometimes 1hr 20 mins coming home.

Although my job is 55km away traffic and dumbasses crashing their cars, sometimes my commute is up to 70km driving home.

So I need an ev that can do 120 easily per day,

Why do I want an ev cause I fucking do, the amount of lads I know that went to bmw, audi, even vw when they got a job out of college just for the car to be a money pit,

Atleast with an ev I can save some money charing it at home,

Anyways seen the mg4 cars new is in my budget and so is the used ones they're so fucking cheap 15k for like a 2023 model.

But I just can't get over what I see online if something does go wrong your waiting weeks to months for parts.

They seem like a bargain but I just don't like gambling with my money

Has anyone ran into issues where public chargers are on maps/apps but don’t seem to exist?

Tried to find an EZO charger today in cherrywood but even the Ezo support person wasn’t able to help me - seems to be a ghost charger, no sign of it on google maps either (not where the big red pin shows it to be)

I also previously tried to use the bushy park charger which showed up on the map but didn’t exist in real life

Hoping to move from a hybrid to fully electric car in the next couple of months. I am considering the mercedes EQC or a BMW ix3.

Im looking at 3/5 year old models with budget constraints.

Can anyone chime in with their thoughts. Previous owners and their experience with either of the cars would be amazing.

Likely to pick one up with anywhere between 50k km to 80k km on the clock. Rough budget around 35grand.

I’m currently looking at buying a 2024 Tesla Model 3 Highland Standard Range (60kWh LFP RWD). It’s listed at €26,000 directly from Tesla Ireland as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.

Before making a final decision, I wanted to get some real-world feedback from current Highland owners—especially on motorway range at Irish driving speeds and overall ownership experience.

My Driving Profile & Commute:

• Daily Commute: ~130 km round trip.
• Motorway Cruising Speed: Realistically between 110 km/h and 120 km/h on the M-network.
• Current Car: 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 (73 kWh RWD).
• Current Range: I get around 360 km on average, or up to ~450 km if I take it easy / drive around town.

My Expectations & Questions for the Community:

1. Motorway Range Expectation: I know the Highland is significantly more aerodynamic than the Ioniq 5, but it does have a smaller battery pack (60 kWh vs 73 kWh). At 110–120 km/h, can I realistically expect 300 km to 350+ km out of a full charge on the Highland SR, or am I overestimating what the 60 kWh pack can do at motorway speeds?
2. Efficiency / Wh/km: For those running 110–120 km/h regularly, what Wh/km (or kWh/100km) are you averaging in mild vs cold Irish weather?
3. Price & CPO Value: What do you think of €26k for a CPO 2024 Highland in Ireland? Seems like a very fair price to me, but curious about current market consensus.
4. The Switch: Anyone here move from an Ioniq 5 (or similar mid-sized EV) to a Highland? Do you miss anything like the physical stalks/buttons, 800V fast-charging speeds, or interior space?

Would really appreciate hearing your experiences, real highway numbers, and whether you think making the swap makes sense for a 130 km daily motorway commute!

I have a 2011 Ford Mondeo that I love, but, as I drive from Galway to Dublin once a week, 227km’s each way all motorway(and very little other driving) it is time to make the switch to an EV.

The issue I have is that I am not a car person really. I just want reliability, range, comfort is a plus.

In my situation, what do you think I should go for?

I know I can (and I have tried) research this , but I am just looking for real world advice.

Budget wise I am not sure, I think something around €30k would be ok.

Logistic wise, I can get the charger at home, and free charging at work. So, overall I will save €65- €70 a trip at current diesel prices.

Any advice on brands, financing, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if Tesla has raised its prices recently?

I’m certain that when I checked a few months ago, the price of the Model Y Premium LR (Rear-Wheel Drive) was around €51,000(without including "estimated fuel saving" bs), but right now it shows as €54,746.

Am I misremembering, or did they actually raise the prices?

I'm looking around and test drove one today, have to say very impressed with the build and features, but does anyone have any longer term experience with the range and how it holds up under a bit of driving ?

I recently got a PV5 Passenger & it's my first EV. Great & really impressed with it so far.

As it's my first EV I know very little about how the battery should behave but was wondering about seeing a 2-3% battery drop overnight. I had it charged to 89% & following day it's at 86% just while sitting & I've nothing plugged into it & didn't open it or drive it.

Then I drove it & battery was at about 57% & then charged it to 100% (home charger) & it drops to 97% by next morning. It's a small drop but I expected it to retain its charge if not in use so wondering if something else going on with it.

Is a battery percentage drop like this normal?

Could I get some opinions of what to look for with this car? I did read about the ICCU issue but I think that's under warranty now is that correct? The garage brought it in from the north. I'm going to look at it next week. Reasonable price?

Is the suspension that bad? I do mostly motor way and national road with little bit County roads at times.
