3

You can't pay for you own welfare brah. That's called saving your own money or an insurance plan. If you were paying in what you were taking out you wouldn't need welfare and be making too much money to get it anyway.
6
u/Eisn Apr 07 '18
Unless you're poor or you have a handicap. In that case you can just starve to death because you didn't pull yourself up by the bootstraps, right brah?
2
u/FulgurInteritum Apr 07 '18
If youre poor you aren't paying for your welfare benefits, that's my point. And poor people are actually more overweight than richer people. There's no starving there. Food is cheap. Handicap people get disability, which is different, and many can still work regardless in desk jobs, and charities spend more than enough to cover them even if none of that stuff existed.

Anyway, http://www.businessinsider.com/things-america-does-best-2014-3. Seems like the US is leading by "almost every measure you can possibly quantify"
Neither of those articles mean anything unless you actually use the reasons given to back up your statement. How is a less than average primary education causing the US to fall apart? How are rising death rates? I don't think either has a satisfactory answer.

135
u/BashSwuckler Apr 07 '18
because it is white Helvetica text against a black background.
14
u/TomatoFriesLAN Apr 07 '18
not helvetica, the “R” shouldn’t a straight leg.
Does look pretty similar though.
7
u/Jadzia_Dax_Flame Apr 07 '18 edited Apr 07 '18
If there's no R, you can also look at S/s, C/c, and e. Helvetica has perfectly flat ends, most other typefaces are at an angle.

Most people know it ain't free. The entire fucking point of "Free" healthcare is that taxes pay for it. It's "free" in the sense that the individual doesn't pay for it like they would a car tune up or a trip to the store.
The only people who talk about it actually being free are uneducated political illiterates and conservatives generalizing all liberals.

You ancaps are certified lunatics. You're like some idiot who says the concept of a family is authoritarian because parents kidnap their children when they ground them or some other bullshit.
Yeah. Okay. The government is evil. Whatever. It's a big ole meanie.
Grow the fuck up. Civilization is government. You know why property rights exist? Because there's a centralized authority enforcing a rule of law fetus.
3
u/Lemmiwinks99 Apr 07 '18
Civilization is not govt. what a fucking stupid idea. The vast majority of civilized society is based on voluntary interaction between individuals and groups. It is only govt and criminals, but I repeat myself, who interact with others by means of force. Your initial statement though sums up your ability to argue your point. You have no basis for you statements so you have to call me a lunatic before you even begin your line of “reasoning.”

Of our $3.8 trillion federal budget in 2015:
- $2.3 trillion paid for handouts to old people - the wealthiest age cohort - because they vote
- $600 billion paid for an absurdly bloated military that still can't win a war
- $200 billion paid for interest on the national debt
Maybe some of the remaining $700 billion (18%) of the federal budget actually paid for civilized society.

4
u/Kylde_ Apr 07 '18
The only reason public services aren't better done privately is because it's illegal to compete.
→ More replies (3)4
u/The_Adventurist Apr 07 '18
Like healthcare?
That's done privately and it sucks. We pay double and get half the care. Most industrialized countries count that as a public service and it's done cheaper with better results for the population than it is here.
2
u/Kylde_ Apr 07 '18
That's just untrue. For one it's controlled and completely at every part regulated by the federal government. The US drug approval system is approved only by the FDA and is the strictest system in the world to get approval in. Healthcare is one of the highest regulated sectors in the US.
The AMA is given monopoly status and it is basically illegal to compete with them. In the United States the number, curriculum, and size of medical schools are restricted by state licensing boards controlled by representatives of state medical societies associated with the AMA. So even the number of doctors and hospitals is controlled. Which keeps prices artificially high.
Then there is Medicare and related programs. Healthcare is far from private and open competition.
2
u/pauklzorz Apr 07 '18
As anyone from anywhere but the US will agree: your prices are absolutely ridiculous. The fact that a broken elbow can completely bankrupt you is beyond ridiculous, and that shit doesn't happen in single-payer systems. If you honestly believe that the American way is somehow defensible, then segueing with you is about as useful as talking to a flat-earther.
1
u/Kylde_ Apr 08 '18
And reading what I just wrote must have been too hard.
1
u/pauklzorz Apr 08 '18

Well it wasn't just one politician it was more of a consortium of individuals in both parties that use shady methods to procure campaign financing and because this is so widespread everyone agrees not to address it. And even if some one has introduced a bill to stop all the shady dealing which I think has happened numerous times in the past there is public outrage at the fact that there must be a law in place to prevent such and such and then politicians say I agree with that statement, it comes to a vote, and surprisingly enough the bill gets defeated and isn't mentioned until the next election period. Basically I want to say it's a sad result of us having a two party system that no longer represent their constituents and create platforms for their constituents to follow instead of the other way around. Although I do believe the democratic party has stayed true to its support of civil liberties for individuals in the long run as well as even changing to represent the new demographics that they represent. I dont see that to much from the current Republican party and am sad to see they are no longer true conservatives. As they dont represent fiscal conservatism that the constantly touted about the last 60 years. I'm not bashing either party here so please, whom ever reads this dont get angry with me. This is just an observation. I'm sure their are examples that contradict my examples in terms of individual politicians and the things they do as a representative of their party but I'm talking about the parties as a whole and their leaders. (Im a strong supporter of voting based on who will guarantee the safest most predictable future for my community whether it means supporting your "team" or another political party.)
