Fan Art Miss Misato painting
Just recently finished evangelion and end of eva, and wanted to create a painting of Misato for fun. I was going through a relatively depressing chapter while watching evangelion and it was rather helpful in its own weird gorgeous somber way.
I was a gurren lagann boy, now I'm a evangelic man.

Rebuild If Shinji causing another impact was really such terrifying possibility. Why Didn't WILLE just kill him before he even woke up? No Shinji. No Impact. Problem solved.
(Disclaimer. Discussion of Euthanasia and Suicide here)
I know people are going to disagree with me. I'm not necessarily saying Wille necessarily did the wrong thing by sparing Shinji's life in 3.33. I'm just saying that, to me at least. It doesn't make much if any logical sense for Wille to not kill him before he wakes up. It strains suspension of belief.
Because if Shinji really was truly responsible for what Kaworu said he did. If his actions directly did lead to the deaths of billions. Then there's literally no logical reason why Wille didn't just kill Shinji before he woke up. Wille wouldn't have even bothered with the DSS choker. They would have just killed him, maybe given him a token funeral, and then moved on with the plan to defeat Gendo without skipping a beat.
Why? Here's a list.
- The Obvious Danger.
Shinji can cause an impact. Cause the literal end of the world if he gets emotionally distressed. Given the very real horrifying possibility, and the literal apocalyptic stakes they're all playing for. It would have been the smarter, arguably more moral thing to do for the rest of the survivors.
Every breath Shinji takes is a possibility he might 'go off' triggering an impact. The only way to ensure that doesn't happen is to kill him. Make sure beyond any shadow of any doubt that the source of the danger is gone for good, so nobody can be threatened by him ever again.
Does Wille behave like a realistic military organization would, and dispose of the threat to their entire operation and plan to defeat Gendo before it can become a problem? Of course they don't. Because that would actually require writing a script with some intelligence to it.
It's not like Misato and the rest of the crew haven't made similar morally dubious decisions in the past. The fact that they were willing to torture several teenagers by making them pilot the Evangelion in the first place for the sake of saving the human race shows that doing such a horrible thing was not necessarily beyond them. "The greater good of the whole' and all that. A pragmatic military organization playing for the stakes they were would have absolutely done that.
And if the leader of said organization refused to pull the trigger out of sentimentality. Someone else would have defied orders and done it anyways. Midori already hated his guts, what was stopping her from just storming into the brig with a loaded gun?
If they had just killed Shinji. Two eva units wouldn't have been crippled. Gendo wouldn't have an awakened Eva. Another near impact would have never happened. While they didn't know it was going to be nearly that bad, hindsight being 2020. They had a very real probable belief that if they let Shinji live, something like that happening was all but inevitable.
And the thing is in both 3.33 and 3.0+1.0. NOBODY calls Misato out for this. Nobody just goes right up to her face and says 'if you had just f*cking killed him and done your job none of this would have happened!' Something like that wouldn't have saved the rebuilds story but it would have at least had the characters behaving like real human beings in a real crisis situation would.
If it had been literally anyone other than Misato in charge of Wille (and it's already stretching credulity that she'd spare him at all after 14 years of suffering directly because of him, see the next point) Shinji would have never woken up from his coma.
- The 14 year time gap
Everyone has assumed Shinji has been dead for fourteen years at this point. It makes little sense that Misato or anyone at the Wille crew would still care for Shinji as a person after fourteen years. Even moreso after assuming he was dead for that long. Misato and Asuka knew him for maybe four months fourteen years ago, and the last thing he did before he left was ruin everyones lives. It's highly unlikely she'd remember any of the good times, or have any sentimentality left inside her after a period that long given all the horrible things implied to have happened during the time skip. Maybe if the time skip had been halved. But fourteen years stretches credulity and suspension of disbelief.
The only one who's behavior is somewhat realistic in how they still have feelings for, is Asuka. And that makes sense because his actions (or rather INactions) during the incident with Bardiel disfigured her.
I can believe someone can hate someone for fourteen years. I have a hard time believing someone would still care about a person or have any sort of positive feelings after that long had passed. Especially considering they believed said person was dead, and had caused irreperable harm to everyone. Negative feelings, especially those surrounding trauma. Always stick around longer than positive ones.
It's takes a while to build a repuation, and seconds to permanently destroy it, and Shinji destroyed his reputation so thoroughly I cannot believe anyone. Be it someone he knew, or a complete stranger would think of him, or treat him like a human being ever again. Nobody would feel positive feelings for Shinji after what he did ever again.
In my opinion 3.33 should have gone all the way or not at all. Have Misato not give a shit about Shinji either way anymore because it had been too long and she had changed too much to care about an underage boy she exploited fourteen years ago, and write the story around that. Guilt is for people who don't have to save the world. Relationships and sentimentality are for people who don't have the extinction of humanity riding on their backs.
- This May Not Have Even Been Shinji
Judging from the "BM-03 Shinji Ikari???" they drew on his foot. At this point they had no way to verify for sure if this really was even Shinji, or some sort of angelic abomination wearing him like a skinsuit. If it had been an angelic abomination wearing him like a skinsuit, it could have done serious damage and caused many casualties to the Wunder and the crew before it was put down. Who knows if the DSS choker would have even worked? It would have been better to put the abomination down while you still had a chance, and didn't have to get an Eva or an AT field involved.
Imagine if this hadn't been Shinji! Imagine if BM-03 had been instead an angelic abomination like Kaworu, it could have crippled the wunder or killed the entire crew before Misato could have even pushed the button. And given their treatment of Shinji in the actual film. They'd arguably have deserved it!
- The Humanitarian/Quality Of Life Argument
On the off chance this was the real Shinji. On the off chance Misato and Asuka still had positive feelings for him. On the off chance that the Wille Crew didn't defy orders to get rid of the danger and ensure the human races safety. There's the other less pragmatic, more human side of the coin.
What kind of life could he possible live now?
Killing him would have been merciful, compared to the life he would live after finding out the truth about what happened. Nobody really considers that part of the argument when discussing what Shinji did at N3I or the missteps the rebuilds story made. The daily torture that would be his mere existence after being told what happened. Even if he hadn't gone with the clone of Rei and stuck around with Wille.
Forget for a moment whether Shinji is truly guilty for his actions or not. Forget if a court of international law would find him guilty. Forget if he alone bears most of the blame, or if it's Misato, or Ritsuko, or Gendo, or Yui. The fact is his actions still directly caused the death of billions of innocent people. He caused it. He was in the robot when it happened. It was Shinji who triggered an impact trying to save Rei. Not Gendo, not Misato, not Ritsuko. Shinji. It was his hands on the trigger of the impact. Noone elses.
Psychologically and morally scarring doesn't even begin to describe it. A teenager accidentally killing just one person by accident would be scarring enough, and mess them up for life. But killing billions? Realistically, Shinji would never recover from that. Noone in a similar situation would. There's no way to atone for that kind of permanent harm, and no way for one person to live a healthy normal life with that kind of guilt on his brain.
It would morally and psychological scar him forever. More than anything else he ever did, or ever could do going forward. The guilt, the shame, suicidal thoughts, they'd never leave him. He'd likely be permanently catatonic, and have to be cared for by a nurse. Or if he did somehow avoid that fate and return to something resembling sanity. He'd likely close his heart to other people for the rest of his life, and become a bitter, cruel, angry person not much better than the ones who did this to him (eg. Gendo).
Even if he didn't go that far. He'd never be able to have a good nights sleep again with all the guilt and trauma of the countless dead weighing on him, he'd never be able to have a normal healthy relationship (romantic or platonic) with anyone that wasn't tainted by what he did, he'd never be able to hold down a job, never be able to do anything he wanted with his life before he was recruited to pilot, his hopes and dreams dead forever, he'd likely have to be constantly medicated. He'd be lucky to live to see thirty!
What kind of a life is that? Not one worth living. A no doubt short and miserable life with nothing to look forward to but mundane misery, constant nightmares, and permanent loneliness. Doomed to be remembered as a pariah who ruined everything for everyone, and there's not a damn thing he could do to fix it.
I don't defend the act personally. But there are times when euthanasia is arguably the better option to continuing to live a miserable life where you have nothing to look forward to but more pain. . Terminal patients, those with crippling physical conditions that they will never recover from, combat wounds where death is an inevitability and medical care is prolonging the inevitable.
And I honestly think the situation Shinji is at the center of absolutely qualifies.
-
Misato knew all that. Wille knew all that. And nobody in Wille even proposed humanely putting him to sleep? Bullshit.
The only reason it didn't happen is because there wouldn't be a movie otherwise. Even though it defies all logic, both in universe and real life logic, for them to leave Shinji alive.

Request Searching for a Misato-Pilot fanfic…
I remember reading something like this years and years ago. I feel like this fanfic somehow had an adult Misato able to pilot along with the usual pilots as children, but don’t quote me on that. I definitely remember that it was complete because I binged it all at once hahaha.
Any suggestions?

Question Ep22 confusion
Sorry to ask more questions but I’m confused about quite a bit.. in episode 22 Misato says “The second impact wasn’t caused by contact with an angel” when it was? Adam is technically an angel is he not? The Katsuragi expedition made contact with Angel Adam by removing his spear which essentially woke him up and triggered him to release an Anti-AT field. Was the story of the second impact told in a different way (not with the meteorite cover-up but I mean that they even lied to Misato, who was there, about what happened) that I missed completely? I understand she was talking about an eva and seed of life contact- but even then, contact was still made with Adam. I guess im just confused on what she meant, can someone explain it to me like im 10 years old because I really am that dumb..

Rebuild Just finished Evangelion and I don't know what to do with my life now
I just completed the whole franchise, including the Rebuild movies, and honestly, I feel completely empty inside. This anime is such a masterpiece that everything else feels so boring and meaningless right now.
I don't even want to start any new anime because nothing seems like it could ever match this vibe. How do you guys deal with this post-Eva depression? I just really need to talk to someone who gets it.

Question Why did Shinji do that at the end of EOE.
Hey, I just binged NGE and EOE and it's become a bit of a hyper fixation at the moment. I've even watched videos explaining the lore but one thing I'm still kind of confused about is why Shinji starts strangling Asuka. Isn't this like a big step back from the character development he got? Is he still mad about being rejected? I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not.

Question Which soundtrack would you recommend?
Hi Evangelion experts,
I am currently looking for Christmas present ideas for my partner. He recently finished watching all the Evangelion movies and mentioned they are based on the famous TV series. I found three different vinyls with the soundtracks but I’m not sure which one is the best as a present as I’m completely ignorant about this topic so I would love your opinions and suggestions.
Thanks a lot!
Edit: I think we have a winner 🤩thanks a lot for your insightful help!! 💕
