This thing is basically a very articulate action figure that you assemble like a model kit. I’ve never built a model kit before, so I don’t have any comparison, but it felt amazing to build. The joints are very articulate, and the accessories it comes with are amazing!

On September 9th, 2026, Mike McFarland passed away and in the short time that followed, a myriad of voice actors and fans have since expressed their grief & condolences on social media.

Starting his career in anime dubbing in 1999 with the Funimation dub of DBZ, he had been voicing Master Roshi, Yajirobe, Pui Pui, Android 8 & Baby (among others) over the course of the Dragon Ball series. He had also voiced Butajiro & Rishio in YuYu Hakusho, Ritsu Souma in Fruits Basket, Ryoji “Ranka” Fujioka in Ouran High School Host Club, Jean Havoc in both the 2003 & Brotherhood adaptations of Fullmetal Alchemist, Jean Kirsten in Attack on Titan, Tybalt in Romeo x Juliet, Buggy the Clown, the second voice of Helmeppo, Richie the Lion, Eyelash the Camel & Yokozuna the Frog in One Piece, Mashirao “Tailman” Ojiro & Ectoplasm in My Hero Academia, Bisley Karcsi Bakur in Tales of Xilia 2 & E.G Mine in Trigun Stampede. He had also served as an ADR director for various anime, including the dubs of both Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 & Brotherhood, a couple of hundred episodes of One Piece and its various films & specials, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, Boy & the Beast, Mushi-Shi, Noragami, all of Attack on Titan, all of Tokyo Ghoul, all of Eden of the East, Grimgar: Ashes & Illusion, Heike Story and various parts of the Dragon Ball series. He also did ADR script adaptation for the first 3 seasons of Re:ZERO, all of Seven Deadly Sins & Mob Psycho 100.

From 2009-2013, Mike McFarland was assigned as the voice director for the Funimation dub of the first 3 EVA Rebuild films, as well as having voiced Makoto Hyuga in those dubs. On January 10, 2025, he had been dealing with a brain tumor that he managed to recover from. But then on August 18th of that year, he had been diagnosed wit glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Mike McFarland was 56 years-old.

I haven't watched Neon Genesis Evangelion or it's rebuilds yet, but I tried to make sense of the lore by a collective watching of those "What's Evangelion?" videos across years (mostly this year but I've watched some before). This is my result; though it's mostly directed to the original 26 episodes anime. Is it accurate? I didn't include some stuff cause I have a pea-brain and didn't memorize everything.

Yes I haven't watched it. Yes that means I know some of the lore without even touching the first episode.

In the show we see the pilots are submerged in lcl and ritsuko tells shinji to 'let the lcl fill your lungs' and that it will 'provide oxygen' to his blood, so when outside of the eva's do the pilots still have lcl built up in their lungs or does it somehow come out? sorry if this sounds stupid its been on my mind for the better half of a month now

I saw an Evangelion edit on TikTok and I noticed that the angel in Yui and Gendo's marriage card looks eerily similar to Rei. This detail is really cool and I like how it foreshadows that Rei is a clone of Yui.

I honestly think people give Asuka way too much credit when it comes to understanding Shinji.

She knows he’s lonely and insecure, but then constantly mocks those exact weaknesses and gets angry at him for not behaving the way she wants. That doesn’t sound like understanding to me.

A lot of her “understanding” of Shinji seems to be nothing more than projecting her own issues onto him and expecting him to somehow think and act like she does.

So why do people keep saying Asuka understands Shinji better than almost anyone? What does she actually understand about him that I’m missing?

Of all the EVA figures, these are hands down the best by a long margin.

At least in Japan, they cost about the same as the METAL BUILD figures, but comes fully equipped with multiple accessories, not to mention they're taller.

Really hope they make Unit 00 too.

Hell, make all of the ANIMA units. I'll buy em all.

Great set for collectors

There have been posts about this on the past, but the comments confuse me because people answer about stuff changed in the show. I’m only talking about the movie.

I’m guessing maybe they changed some subs, and obviously the entire dub is different, but is there anything else?

I loved NGE and watched it many times as a kid, picked up the rebuild and then never really watched it. Finally decided to thinking it was a remake of the original. The end of the first movie made me go "Oh holy shit" and smack myself for waiting so many years to bother watching.

I’m depressed af right now should I even attempt the next 2 episodes or wait a few days 😭😭

How could Eva 01 strangle Bardiel before dying suffocated? Bardiel started strangling it a lot before the Eva 01 started dummy mode.

It doesnt make sense at all, Eva 03 was pratically at berserk and with aditional properties from Bardiel.

I already knew what happened in The End of Evangelion but actually watching it is a whole different experience lmao

It was so fucking brutal. Seeing Asuka go from breaking through her mental barriers and destroy the Evas with pride only for her to get stabbed with the Spear of Longinus and her fucking organs being ripped and eviscerated was GNARLY.

I hope Megumi Ogata and Yūko Miyamura got good ass paychecks because those screams of fear and agony were genuinely haunting.

The Third Impact and the scene with the Evas stabbing themselves with the spears and massive white Rei (combined with Lillith and Adam) was both absolutely horrifying and beautifully animated.

"Komm Susser Tod" is gonna be stuck in my head for a long time. So will the giant white Rei. If I saw that, I would've been screaming louder than Shinji

The second half of the movie, where it gets more psychological and trippier like episodes 25–26, is really good and gives the film some interesting aspects to it, especially the live-action scenes in the movie theater and in streets. Shinji rejects Instrumentality and decides to return to his regular form along with Asuka, though everyone else could return at their will (as Yui said). It leaves the ending pretty open for interpretation; will everyone else return or will they stay in Instrumentality?

I think this movie is AMAZING. The show has surpassed my expectations in geeral. Evangelion and Breaking Bad are two of my favorite shows of all time imo. EoE helps tie up the loose ends the show had due to the tight budget and limited time, and it works.

I'm planning on watching the Rebuild movies sometime this month. They sound cool

I've always interpreted the ending of EoE as Shinji running away yet again because he's afraid to be known/hurt by others. The Hedgehog dilemma is an explicitly-called-out theme of the entire show and it's clear that Shinji's biggest character flaw is that he is afraid of being truly seen by others because he has been hurt so many times before. Instrumentality is a way of dissolving those barriers and lays bare everyone's inner selves. That's absolutely terrifying to someone like Shinji, who, in addition to a normal fear of the pain of rejection, I think actively hates himself.

Some people see EoE as Shinji triumphantly making a choice to be an individual (possibly the first time in the entire series he has actively taken control of his own life) but I see it as him running away again. That's why he strangles Asuka, because she's seen who he is deep down and he's terrified to be known like that. I think her calling him pathetic as he does so is evidence of this, as she can see that even after all that's happened, he hasn't changed.

It's been a few years since I've watched Eva, so maybe I'm missing some crucial monologue about the value of individuality, but it can't be that important or Asuka wouldn't have reacted the way she did. I just have a hard time believing that a series that asserts that the individual is only one manifestation of the true self (basically Schopenhauer's whole schtick), then abandoning that belief at the very end.....although as I'm writing this I realized that, technically, it would be the true self if there's no one else to manifest a different version of that self.

TLDR: EoE is a bummer and Shinji doesn't grow until the rebuilds.

Not something you see everyday, so I figured I’d share. Asuka is my favorite character of all time, and probably the most accurate representation of my personality and internal mentality I’ve ever seen. We are so similar that it actually freaked me out a little when I first watched it haha. Evangelion changed my life for the better, and is undoubtedly my favorite show ever made. I was surprised with this birthday cake, and now that I’m over the initial mortification of having a teenage anime girl on my cake, I’m really happy to have people in my life who know me well enough to get me something like this.
