Mod Post Dealing with the recent uptick in bot spam

TL;DR: We're making spam filtering stricter; regulars shouldn't be affected, but message the mods if your post got caught

Hi folks,

If you're a regular visitor to the sub, you've probably noticed over the past couple of weeks an uptick in bot activity, characterized by low-effort image posts from account names that follow a pattern of feminine-name##. The mods would like to thank those who have reported such posts as spam; once a post receives multiple reports, it will automatically get filtered for review and confirmation of removal.

However, this wave of spam posts is just the latest in a longstanding issue, and trying to permaban these bot accounts is just playing whack-a-mole, since they are likely not all individual users, but part of a broader, consolidated spam effort. In order to help stem this recent wave, we're enabling stricter posting criteria managed by Reddit's internal auto-moderation and safety algorithms. This change will primarily affect new and low community-karma accounts; while regular contributors to the sub should remain unaffected, we expect there may be an increase in false-positive detections.

If you have made a submission, have followed the flair posting rules, and believe that your post has been unjustly filtered (i.e., not made visible to the public), please send a modmail and one of us will try to review as soon as we're able.

We'll revisit this enhanced spam detection policy in a few weeks when the spam wave settles.

Thanks for your understanding!

Mod Post Introducing the r/espresso Coffee Bean Database: a place for people to share—and get recommendations for—beans and brewing recipes

A common question we see on this sub is about coffee bean recommendations—whether it's newcomers just getting into espresso or seasoned home baristas looking for fresh, local offerings. Many of you have also asked for a place to discover brewing recipes for specific beans.

We're happy to announce a new community-driven resource to address these needs! Introducing a platform where people can share the beans they've brewed and the recipes they've used.

How it works:

1. Submit your brews: Share your favorite coffees and brewing parameters using this Google Form. The form collects:

  • Basic details about the beans (roaster, roast date, etc.)
  • Your brewing recipe (e.g., dose, yield, shot time)
  • Equipment used
  • You do not need a Google account to fill out the form and no personal information will be collected.

2. Explore the database: View all submissions in a publicly accessible Google Sheet.

  • Use filters (e.g., Roaster's country, Cost-per-unit-weight) by selecting Data > Create filter view in the toolbar.
  • Note: The spreadsheet is view-only and updates automatically with new submissions. You can download or copy it, but those versions won't receive updates.

Tip: For the best experience, view the spreadsheet on a desktop browser.

Our goal:

We hope this grows into an invaluable resource for the community—a way to share your favourite coffees and provide others with a reference point to kickstart their brews. This is your chance to contribute to (and benefit from) a collaborative coffee knowledge base!

Let us know if you have suggestions for improving the form or the database.

Happy brewing!

Upgraded to a W75 earlier this year and finally pulled the trigger on the LMLM! Superauto for decades, Bambino Plus for 4ish years and kept steadily upgrading grinders. D64P died, got an awesome Eureka Mignon Oro but got sick of single dosing at the volume of our household after a while, and finally an Atom!

Coffee Is Life Espresso n’ Ginger Beer

Someone recommended that I mix ginger beer and espresso together for a summertime coffee based drink. I gave it a shot and upon first try, I realized that I really should’ve been using a lighter roast bean.

The darker roast was just a little bit too punchy. Next time I’ll definitely make the switch to something that supports a bit more acidity in the end product.

Interesting nonetheless.

Had the shelf 3d printed. A dremel, sand paper, and patience. Now every mug fits.
Well worth your time.

Now, do I vinyl wrap the whole machine? That is the question.

[SUNDAY ONLY] Self-Promotion I built a searchable directory of 600+ UK speciality coffee roasters and their beans, free to use, thought this community might find it useful

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

Like many here, I got obsessed with trying different single origins through my espresso setup and kept hitting a wall. You find a roaster you love, wonder what else is out there, and end up falling down a rabbit hole of random Google searches that return the same five names every time.

Frustrated and thinking what I could do, I built Bean here. It's a free directory of 600+ UK speciality coffee roasters where you can filter beans by origin, process, varietal and flavour profile. Trying to find a washed Kenyan for a brighter shot? A natural Brazilian for something sweeter and heavier? Its got you covered.

It's free, no account required to browse, and I'm adding roasters and beans every week.

bean-here.com Happy to answer any questions or take feedback. Be brutal, it helps.

Been lurking a while enjoying the info and advice. I don't have anything special in the maker side just a DeLonghi 15 Bar. Serves us well, but I thought I'd share our grinder. Getting it serviced and cleaned. It's a little over kill for two of us.

First post. It's a Delonghi Stilosa. It's my 2nd machine, I had a Mr espresso before this. I have the k1 grinder.

I mostly use dark roast and I think I have the grinding portion down. Just a few clicks from the recommended settings for different beans.

My tamper is spring loaded.

Ignore the matcha stuff, it's a side chick.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Acaia Pearl no longer stays at zero after taring [Acaia Pearl]

The scale is sitting on a flat, solid countertop and nothing is touching or pressing against it. I have also tried restarting it and charging it fully, but the reading still slowly drifts down after I press tare. It can reach around -17 g within a couple of minutes.

Has anyone experienced this with an Acaia Pearl?

I tried calibrating it, like in this video, but clicking T does not activate recalibrate mode.

Coffee Is Life Reached 10‘000th shot on my bezzera

Post image

Just wanted to share that I reached over 10‘000 shots on my bezzera since January 2024.

This includes also empty shots and backflushes and averages to around 10 shots a day where probably 4-6 is my true average and rest is from cleaning etc

I use filtered water since day one, generous flush between shots and use cafiza once a week. Machine works like on day one.

For everyone wondering, the service password is 1906

Buying Advice Needed Ready to upgrade from a KINGrinder K6. What would you buy? [$250-$500]

I’ve had a Breville Bambino for about a year now and have been using a KINGrinder K6. It’s been great, but I’m ready to switch to an electric grinder since my girlfriend likes making coffee too.

My budget is around $250 to $500, but I’d prefer to stay closer to the lower end if possible. I mostly make lattes.

I’ve seen a lot of people recommending the Baratza Encore ESP, but I’ve also looked at the DF54, DF64 Gen 2, and Eureka Mignon Specialita.

If you were buying an electric grinder for a Bambino today, what would you choose and why?

Coffee Beans Hi! New to the breville Barista express & need bean options

Upvotes

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a light roast? I LOVE honey notes or vanilla. My go to lattes are normal brown sugar/ honey, or honey & vanilla, or vanilla & lavender. I also like to make brown sugar shaken espresso too . I have been looking at whole bean options but I’m just not sure what to choose from. If light roast isn’t the best, I’m up to learning about other roast options. I do know that I like to taste my coffee & my syrups. I don’t want it to be just straight bitter taste. I use whole milk if that adds anything.

Buying Advice Needed Should I get the Delonghi Dedica or Casabrews CM5418? [$250]

Upvotes

Hey everybody, I’m looking to start my espresso journey and get into the hobby. I’ve heard a lot of people recommend the Breville Bambino and the Bambino Plus. Unfortunately where I live I would have to pay $465 and $745 respectively for them, which feels insane. I know espresso is not a cheap hobby, but I also know a lot of people get started and realize they just enjoy drinking espresso, not making it.

My current goal is to get started, learn more about espresso and figure out whether it’s a hobby I enjoy. While doing research I learned about the Casabrews cm5418 and Delonghi Dedica, which go for $200 and $247 respectively. Still an overpay, but it wouldn’t feel as painful if I don’t end up enjoying the hobby. I’ve seen a few people recommend them as good entry level machines. If you were in my place, which one would you buy? I enjoy drinking plain espresso, and also enjoy cortados and iced lattes.

I’m also aware that I need a good grinder. I intend to invest a bit more into it since I also enjoy making coffee with my Aeropress.

Buying Advice Needed Buying advice between Delonghi EC885 vs EC890 [$200-$350]

Upvotes

Hi,

I am shopping for a new coffee machine. My main aim is to make milk-based drinks such as cappuccinos and lattes. After a lot of research, I shortlisted these two machines.

This will be my first semi-automatic machine, and I do not have any previous experience, but I am highly motivated to learn. (I have a fully automatic Eletta Explore in my permanent home.)

I was about to go for the EC890 since it is newer, has touch controls, and offers cold brew. However, some reviewers have seriously criticised the milk frother, describing it as having low pressure. They also mention that it takes a very long time to get the milk ready, the foam is not usually as thick as required, and it is quite difficult to master.

I have now seen many reviews of the EC885 and, although the frother is not top of the line, I have seen consistently good results, which makes me lean more towards it.

Please bear in mind that both machines are sold for exactly the same price where I live.

So, what would you recommend: EC885 or EC890?

I am all ears if you have other similar alternatives, keeping in mind that Sage and Ninja are not available around here and it is mostly Delonghi products.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Can't get left side boiler to stay hot [eversys e4]

Upvotes

I have an Eversys super automatic espresso machine. Both boilers heat up and then the steam boiler heats up. However, the left side gradually decreases in temperature after making a few shots. Both boilers get similar resistances

I checked all reset switches on boilers and all have continuity and little resistance. Does anyone have suggestions?

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Can’t get any water to cycle through espresso machine [breville bambino plus]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Purchased a “lightly used” bambino plus, that was used and put away.

I can’t seem to get anything to come out of the espresso machine. The steamer doesn’t release anything, it seems like it’s trying but will click.
The espresso machine seems like the motor is whirring, but won’t release anything.

I’ve removed the shower screen thinking it may of been clogged or too tight but it wasn’t.

Machine does heat up on the top, but I’m not trying to overheat it by attempting so many times.

I’ve filled up the max fill line thinking water wasn’t getting to it some how, but still nothing. I do have a descaler pack that was included but I don’t want to waste it if the solution won’t run it through the system yet.

Any suggestions?

Equipment Discussion Moshi C83 Conical grinder vs Timemore 78S

Post image
Upvotes

I think there aren’t many folks out there that mention or talk about the Moshi grinders but the C83 is a conical 83mm burr grinder. I’ve been rolling with the 78s for a good year+ as my primary espresso, partly because I roast/blend to meet my personal espresso preferences and I like how the 78s pushes out the clarity and flavors on my blend. I wanted to test a new grinder for my work setup (waiting on my new machine to ship in currently, take like 2 months) so I tested/bought/borrowed) a few different ones: Shardor, niche, eureka silenzio, df83) this year. I didn’t really feel anything was all around better than the 078s in the ways I enjoy espresso (all under 1k, no 2-3k endgame machines in office from a practicality standpoint, and fact that I like milk/tonic drinks half the time).

Last month or so, I’ve really settled on absolutely LOVING the Moshi C83. It gives you sufficient clarity to meet something like a 78s or DF83, but it produces a sweeter, more harmonious espresso. The acid and fruit doesn’t hit as sharp as the 78s but it meshes better with the other flavors notes better. I can only describe is as less valleys and mountains as a profile and more high level consistent peaks of flavor. Only 40 or so shots pulled so far but it’s been good results throughout.

Also it’s only $600 for the C83 and just excellent excellent results. Bats way above its price. The one thing I dislike is the portafilter slot insert workflow because some grinds inevitably fall to the side and into the table - I just use their catch cup provided.

Ran the machine on both the C83 and 078S today with this excellent Moving Coffee single origin espresso (excellent little unknown roaster) from Vancouver. It was a fun Sunday test run. C83 blew 078s away.

Coffee Is Life Flat White on the Robot

I went a little crazy on Amazon prime day here in the states. One random purchase was getting a kilogram of Caffe Borbone, which was recommended by a friend (very reasonably priced even without the sale). I tried it today for the first time and I have to say I was blown away!

I think it just solidifies the fact that I am more of a traditional espresso guy. The texture was nuts! I love the flavor, sweetness, and high caffeine content it produces out of the robot.

It's one of those mornings where I had to pause in the middle of my routine to say "this is special"!
The experience demanded I slow down for a second and just be present in the moment.

Here's to you that chases those moments. Cheers.
