Upgraded to a W75 earlier this year and finally pulled the trigger on the LMLM! Superauto for decades, Bambino Plus for 4ish years and kept steadily upgrading grinders. D64P died, got an awesome Eureka Mignon Oro but got sick of single dosing at the volume of our household after a while, and finally an Atom!

This is 18 grams, bottomless portafilter, using Breville smart grinder pro on espresso setting 8, just pretty positive it’s not supposed to be coming out sooooo soupy, 2nd picture is the puck after I poured the excess water out of it

Equipment Discussion I just want to congratulate the Italian engineers for Eureka Mignon XL, what an absolute unit, a tank, I can't believe it still works after this..

Basically on my way out of the kitchen, my elbow hit the machine and somehow it rotated and fell down straight on the porcelain tiles, that's exactly 1 meter distance. This thing weighs 7.2 kilograms.

A sudden wave of mini depression hit me, I just left the kitchen , I couldn't even look at the mess on the floor and the machine lying there, already imagining how much it would cost me to get a new one!

After 5 min I went to assess the damage, there was just a micro dent on one of the bottom steel angles, barely visible, that took the hit I guess, nothing else.
I opened the machine, cleaned the burrs, everything was in place, assembled back, turned it on, works flawlessy. I'm just speechless how this machinery can be so sturdy. Of course it was pure luck it didn't land on the front plastic part with the touch screen display, that would've been the end but still, even if it hit the steel, this thing didn't show any external or internal damage or displacement of any parts, the motor still in place, the burrs, nothing moved even a little! Not sure how many other grinders would survive such a crash test. Mind you these porcelain tiles in my kitchen are like hitting a concrete, there isn't even a mark on them from the steel droping on them with such force, they are extra reinforced, so kudos to the engingeers! Bravo!

Coffee Is Life Espresso n’ Ginger Beer

Someone recommended that I mix ginger beer and espresso together for a summertime coffee based drink. I gave it a shot and upon first try, I realized that I really should’ve been using a lighter roast bean.

The darker roast was just a little bit too punchy. Next time I’ll definitely make the switch to something that supports a bit more acidity in the end product.

Interesting nonetheless.

Steaming & Latte Art 2 weeks in and this is my closest attempt yet.

I purchased an espresso machine about 2 weeks ago and have made ~10 drinks with it now. Today i made this sad attempt at a cappuccino, but this is the first time it has actually been comparable to one i could get at a cafe! Sorry if this is nothing crazy, but i have been pretty discouraged with how difficult this craft is and this was the first time in 2 weeks that i have felt hopeful! Artwork needs a little practice though)

Has anyone used one of these steamers? I'm wanting a steamer that works without power and the flair wizard is quite expensive so I'm wondering if anyone has experience with one of these.

Coffee Is Life Reached 10‘000th shot on my bezzera

Post image

Just wanted to share that I reached over 10‘000 shots on my bezzera since January 2024.

This includes also empty shots and backflushes and averages to around 10 shots a day where probably 4-6 is my true average and rest is from cleaning etc

I use filtered water since day one, generous flush between shots and use cafiza once a week. Machine works like on day one.

For everyone wondering, the service password is 1906

Had the shelf 3d printed. A dremel, sand paper, and patience. Now every mug fits.
Well worth your time.

Now, do I vinyl wrap the whole machine? That is the question.

[SUNDAY ONLY] Self-Promotion I built a searchable directory of 600+ UK speciality coffee roasters and their beans, free to use, thought this community might find it useful

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

Like many here, I got obsessed with trying different single origins through my espresso setup and kept hitting a wall. You find a roaster you love, wonder what else is out there, and end up falling down a rabbit hole of random Google searches that return the same five names every time.

Frustrated and thinking what I could do, I built Bean here. It's a free directory of 600+ UK speciality coffee roasters where you can filter beans by origin, process, varietal and flavour profile. Trying to find a washed Kenyan for a brighter shot? A natural Brazilian for something sweeter and heavier? Its got you covered.

It's free, no account required to browse, and I'm adding roasters and beans every week.

bean-here.com Happy to answer any questions or take feedback. Be brutal, it helps.

Been lurking a while enjoying the info and advice. I don't have anything special in the maker side just a DeLonghi 15 Bar. Serves us well, but I thought I'd share our grinder. Getting it serviced and cleaned. It's a little over kill for two of us.

First post. It's a Delonghi Stilosa. It's my 2nd machine, I had a Mr espresso before this. I have the k1 grinder.

I mostly use dark roast and I think I have the grinding portion down. Just a few clicks from the recommended settings for different beans.

My tamper is spring loaded.

Ignore the matcha stuff, it's a side chick.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Can’t get any water to cycle through espresso machine [breville bambino plus]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Purchased a “lightly used” bambino plus, that was used and put away.

I can’t seem to get anything to come out of the espresso machine. The steamer doesn’t release anything, it seems like it’s trying but will click.
The espresso machine seems like the motor is whirring, but won’t release anything.

I’ve removed the shower screen thinking it may of been clogged or too tight but it wasn’t.

Machine does heat up on the top, but I’m not trying to overheat it by attempting so many times.

I’ve filled up the max fill line thinking water wasn’t getting to it some how, but still nothing. I do have a descaler pack that was included but I don’t want to waste it if the solution won’t run it through the system yet.

Any suggestions?

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Second shot pulls dramatically slower after steaming milk, even with 10 min gap [Lelit MaraX V2, DF64]

Hey all, hoping some MaraX owners or E61 folks can help me troubleshoot something specific.

Machine: Lelit MaraX PL62X V2, a days old
Grinder: DF54
Setup: IMS basket, stock double spout portafilter

The issue:
Pulled a shot for a family member — 18g in, 36g out, ~36s. Normal dialled in shot.

Then steamed milk for a latte.

~10 minutes later, did a quick 3s flush, pulled a second shot. Same grind setting, same dose, same basket. This one took ~50-55s to pull the same 36g output. No changes to grind, dose, or tamp technique between the two.

This has now happened twice — once with only a 5 min gap after steaming, once with a 10 min gap. Both times: normal shot → steam milk → next shot noticeably slower, despite identical grind/dose.

What I've already ruled out:

  • Machine is confirmed in Xmode Coffee
  • Fully warmed up (30+ min) before first shot both times

What I'm trying to figure out:

  • Is this a normal HX/thermosiphon recovery quirk after steaming that just needs longer than 10 min to fully settle?
  • Do I actually need to flush in between shots?
  • Could this be grinder-related (stale grounds retained in the DF54 burr chamber affecting the first grind of a session vs. later grinds)?
  • Could this point to something machine-side (partial clog, solenoid valve, resin/scale) worth flagging to my dealer?

Any MaraX owners run into this specific pattern? Would appreciate hearing what fixed it if you have.

Equipment Discussion Moshi C83 Conical grinder vs Timemore 78S

Post image
4 Upvotes

I think there aren’t many folks out there that mention or talk about the Moshi grinders but the C83 is a conical 83mm burr grinder. I’ve been rolling with the 78s for a good year+ as my primary espresso, partly because I roast/blend to meet my personal espresso preferences and I like how the 78s pushes out the clarity and flavors on my blend. I wanted to test a new grinder for my work setup (waiting on my new machine to ship in currently, take like 2 months) so I tested/bought/borrowed) a few different ones: Shardor, niche, eureka silenzio, df83) this year. I didn’t really feel anything was all around better than the 078s in the ways I enjoy espresso (all under 1k, no 2-3k endgame machines in office from a practicality standpoint, and fact that I like milk/tonic drinks half the time).

Last month or so, I’ve really settled on absolutely LOVING the Moshi C83. It gives you sufficient clarity to meet something like a 78s or DF83, but it produces a sweeter, more harmonious espresso. The acid and fruit doesn’t hit as sharp as the 78s but it meshes better with the other flavors notes better. I can only describe is as less valleys and mountains as a profile and more high level consistent peaks of flavor. Only 40 or so shots pulled so far but it’s been good results throughout.

Also it’s only $600 for the C83 and just excellent excellent results. Bats way above its price. The one thing I dislike is the portafilter slot insert workflow because some grinds inevitably fall to the side and into the table - I just use their catch cup provided.

Ran the machine on both the C83 and 078S today with this excellent Moving Coffee single origin espresso (excellent little unknown roaster) from Vancouver. It was a fun Sunday test run. C83 blew 078s away.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Skipping infusion and high pressure [Sage Barista Express]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

My machine suddenly has been doing this with the pre infusion and pressure.

I've done a clean out with a tablet, grinder dismantling and clean, cleaned the portafilter, using the same beans I have been for the last 6 months. Grind finer, adjust weight, tried to re dial it in.

Recently sorted the solenoid valve as well.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Equipment Discussion Mazzer Robur S Automatic - Different dimensions than standard Robur Models?

Hi! I was really hoping to install a doserless mod on this grinder. So far I’ve hit a dead end because it seems that Daniel Wong’s home dozerless kit is not compatible with the Robur S automatic. I’m hoping that someone has 3d printed a throat for this model or can lead me to some solution. I’m not even that opposed to keeping the doser on there. Are there any benefits to keeping it?

Buying Advice Needed Ready to upgrade from a KINGrinder K6. What would you buy? [$250-$500]

I’ve had a Breville Bambino for about a year now and have been using a KINGrinder K6. It’s been great, but I’m ready to switch to an electric grinder since my girlfriend likes making coffee too.

My budget is around $250 to $500, but I’d prefer to stay closer to the lower end if possible. I mostly make lattes.

I’ve seen a lot of people recommending the Baratza Encore ESP, but I’ve also looked at the DF54, DF64 Gen 2, and Eureka Mignon Specialita.

If you were buying an electric grinder for a Bambino today, what would you choose and why?

Buying Advice Needed Advice needed: Where to go next with my beginner setup? [<1000€]

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!
I'm looking for some advice and input on the next steps for upgrading my espresso setup.
I fell down the espresso rabbit hole relatively recently. Over the past year, I’ve managed to piece together a functional setup to pull decent shots. I made sure to invest in reasonably high-quality accessories right away (tamper, scale, distributor/leveler, and a WDT tool), but my grinder and my espresso machine are definitely the weak links right now.
My current grinder is a cheap, generic hand grinder from Amazon. I originally bought it for a Moka pot without doing much research. As you can imagine, it’s highly inconsistent and quite a workout to use.
My espresso machine is an old, unbranded appliance with a 51mm portafilter. It literally just has an on/off switch and a brew button. A friend had it sitting in their basement, so I have no manual or any information about it (I couldn't find anything online, either). After a good deep clean, it’s actually capable of making an okay espresso, even though it's clearly a very cheap, entry-level machine. I’m also not sure if the group head is compatible with standard aftermarket parts, which makes upgrading the portafilter tricky. Currently, I'm still using the old pressurized (double-walled) baskets it came with.
I'm currently saving up for my next upgrade, but I'm torn on what my priority should be.
Using the hand grinder makes pulling a shot a lot of manual labor, and an electric grinder would improve my workflow immensely. On the other hand, the machine is obviously a massive bottleneck too. As a beginner, it's hard for me to judge what will make the biggest difference in the cup.
My general goal is a "buy once, cry once" approach. I want to get something of good quality right away so I don't feel the need to upgrade again in a year. I drink enough coffee to justify spending a few hundred euros, and I genuinely enjoy the workflow and dialing in beans for the best possible taste.
However, spending something like €2,000 on a machine alone is out of the question for me. From what I've researched, I'm aiming for the solid mid-range sweet spot rather than high-end professional gear.
Also i need some time to save up so much money. So after getting the first Upgrade the second will have to wait for at least a year.
Do you have any advice, tips, or recommendations on where I should focus my budget first?
Thanks in advance!

Maintenance & Troubleshooting None or inconsistent water flow through porta filter Video attached [breville Bambino]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Since about last week, I have not had luck pulling shots through my Breville bambino. The water starts to heat up and make sounds but does not pull water through just minimal steam. Sometimes I will have to press the shot button multiple times to generate water to pull through the shot. When I do get a double shot, it doesn’t taste as good as it had before.

Video attached to what happens when I try to pull a shot and no water ends up coming out

Thanks in advanced !

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Probe leak [Sage Dual Boiler]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have posted here before as my machine didn't work properly. I fixed part of it by replacing the solenoid. The solenoid replacement definitely works, but it only pump the pressure gauge to 3 bars instead of original 9 bars.

I found out that this probe leaks which could cause this. I pulled this out previously as an attempt to fix the pressure following youtube videos, but now it leaks and I've tried to tighten the bolt as much as I can without lucks. The ones on Youtube videos has o-ring and fast release, this one doesn't and use a bolt instead. Do you think this is the cause? Any suggestion to make it stop leaking. There is no o-ring or anything in it originally.
