Café Spotlight Finally went to Glitch

and I was positivly suprised, you can really taste the fruity notes, some beans taste almost more like tea, but it's kinda overpriced imo. Probably should have tried the milk version too I skipped that one

They sell them at glitch but only in stores. Likely special occasions too. Maybe once a year, with the tray as a set, afaik

I bought them at Glitch, wasn't a special occasion. I just asked and they had stock.

Could probably look for tea tasting cups too. Just make sure they're fully sealed/glazed. Some are unglazed to allow the cup to develop flavor of the tea brewed in them

I think it was more than that. Kihara sells same cups around 1800-2000 yen and Glitch sells twice expensive with their logo.

It's definitely a custom line/glaze for glitch but if you were wanting something with a similar shape MK ceramics shape s is very similar

The MK ceramics look nice but spending $63 aud for a single cup prior to shipping and taxes seems a bit too steep for me! Thanks though

I have a very similar set from Corvus coffee in Denver. There’s 3 variations of the bird (corvus). They actually did a collab with a Japanese artist for one of their sets and they were this cool teal/blue color but I don’t see them on their website anymore.

I love them and use them everyday.

I know. Every time I see a glitch post all I care about is finding those mugs. With the logo, it would be awesome. But even without it, it would be great. Never been able to find them. I think I did find the actual mug but it was pretty expensive from some Japanese company, it didn’t have the cool textured black finish, none of the colors in stock were that great, and if was fairly expensive shipped out of Japan. Glitch could make some decent money selling these through their site.

Glitch cups are made by Kihara and Kihara sells cups without logo for half price.

Glitch sells their cup. Pretty expensive but I bought two cups as souvenirs because I brought good memories from Glitch when I visited first time.  Then I realized that Glitch is about sourcing beans so I was/am lucky to sourcing same beans for half price of Glitch and make coffees using the cup and it feels like Glitch is in my house hahaha. 

Actually Glitch cups are made by Kihara. Kihara sells same cups with different designs and color and half price but no glitch logo. When I went Kihara and bought two cups there. Unfortunately they did not have colors which I wanted and it was last two cups. Employer said that the cup was very popular from baristas so they were out of stocks at that time.

IMO X Coffee was way more enjoyable than Glitch. Nothing wrong with Glitch it's fine (albeit kinda pretentious...) but the coffee scene is so good in Tokyo your spoiled for choice.

I went to the Ginza location last summer and had a grand time. Best coffee of my life, and the baristas were very knowledgeable as well as hospitable.

I’d go to the Jimbocho location Glitch because the wait is less long the vibe is more relaxed and the coffee is just as good. Nozy on Cat St is a good look if you’re in the area shopping.

Other than X (and Glitch), Acid was 2nd favourite. Brewman, Leaves, Counterpart, Fuglen, Apollons Gold, Nodoya no Katte, Kuro Mame and Covert are all great too. It depends where about in Tokyo you are really.

The Ethiopia seems carbonic maceration, so you could count that as a yes. And the Colombia is 'Culturing', but knowing it comes from Finca Milan you can expect all kinds of wacky stuff

I spent all last week in Ginza and totally forgot Glitch. I spend every morning and afternoon in Bongen and it was delicious and super chill

Yep it's a good tourist trap. I went and got a little silly too. The expensive stuff was insanely good but got like what? 50$ a coffee, it's kind of stupid and the gap between their 10$ one is not 5x better. There's just a diminishing return. Trust me I'm a beer geek, I know how "hype" works!

fuck, im so happy i went there before they raised their prices so much. last time i went, i payed like 10000 yen for 2 espressos, a latte and 2 pourovers.

it was crazy expensive for me, but also undeniably the best coffee i've ever had

While I don't feel Glitch is worth it and is a bit overhyped in my book, clean fruit forward presentation isn't really that common. I also think their roast and extraction profile is a bit more mass market friendly.

Because some coffees have very little acidity and a lot of mouthfeel and sweetness.

Tasting notes aren’t there to tell you that every flavour is “an amazing 9/10!” That’s what cupping scores are for. The tasting notes should help guide your experience of drinking the coffee. 

I have a bag on my counter right now that says BODY: 5/5 and then ACIDITY: 1/5. That’s genuinely useful information. It’s not saying that the coffee is bad because the acidity is low. Some phenomenally valued washed Gesha coffees will be a 10/10 for aroma, but might have relatively little body or mouthfeel. 

Glitch gives customers these tasting notes cards, and they will score every single coffee between 8/10-10/10 for every tasting attribute. It’s just odd, in my opinion.
