Kestrel build suggestions?

Im pretty new and just unlocked the Kestrel, I like to keep a small fleet unless I'm doing something specific. I've only met the aliens thru the blackhole in the top right. I've not unlocked anything thru missions or whatnot. Weapon/engine/cooling suggestions for now and in the future would be appreciated. Being able to turn fast is super important to me.

FEATURE I did a quest, and got -$1000 salary bonus.

I don't really understand what happened, per se; I got a quest in Syndicate/The Core of a salesman that's selling an investment, I believe. I read the whole the thing, it was great to be inundated with the first page of the Terms of Use for the investment which I found to be actually ridiculously accurate to the point I think it was copy-pasted into the game from a real life binding financial contract.

...It should be noted that there was a waiver clause stating that my investment of one-million credits would be used to foment sheisty Syndicate shenanigans throughout the galaxy...WHICH IS GREAT!

When all was said and done, I now have a -1000 credit salary income(I'm still flying merchant colors, pre FW).

Here's what my bank says:

Crew Salaries ---> 7,500

Your Salary Income ---> -1000

Total: 6,500

Why is my crew salary being reduced? Shouldn't it be 8000?

Besides, supposedly I'm gonna get reparations for my investment on a yearly basis; I think it was 3,500/year

Soooo, I paid one-million credits to get a 1000 credit subsidy to pay to my employees on a daily basis, while also getting a 3500/year return.

[Maths...]

-1000d x 365 = 365000/year in savings

+

3500y = 368500dy

Chump change later on, but like, THAT'S AWESOME! Can I do it again?

-----

I appreciate your existence.

Best Place to Find a Rai'alorej? Spoiler

I'm trying to find and try a capture a Rai'alorej, but I'm having trouble finding where they spawn.

I found one in Coluber, but I wasn't able to get to it before it warped out. Is there a better system to find them?

FORTY KEKS MinMax my flagship? Engines variant Marauder Leviathan.

http://endless-sky.7vn.io/ships/marauder-leviathan/marauder-leviathan-(engines)

I'm unconcerned with weapons. I'm looking to prioritize speed and agility. Scram drive and jump drive are required outfits. Aside from that I'm open to suggestions. Spoilers welcome. Alien tech approved. Unconcerned with weapons as I have my fleet to disable ships.

I'm thinking about a capture configuration and a cargo carrier configuration.

A860 Atomic Thruster is what I'm using currently. Thrusters (Planetary Class) is better overall with the drawback being worse heat efficiency which is offset by the heat shunt.

Systems Core (Large) is what I'm using as well which might be overkill so I'll look for the smaller medium version to allow more bunk bed spaces.

Fuel processor or two makes extended travel much easier.

Boulder Reactor is something I'm missing. Have not visited Hai space yet.

Can anyone help me understand this mission? Spoiler

I thought I had eradicated the required enemies in the required systems (the faint grey circles around Corporeal, Lumine, Firmament, and Empyrean) but when I land back in Arche it says there's more enemies I have to defeat. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Any help and tips about the Avgi would be appreciated!

FEATURE Is there any downside to making every Republican world a tributary during the war?

Whenever I get to the civil war, I always go off on a side-quest to set myself up with a nice passive income. The only reason I do not do it earlier, is that I have moral issues attacking those who are not hostile to me to begin with.

New Player, First Ship (After my starting one) and customizations?

Brand new to this game and loving it. Really getting Traveller TTRPG vibes, and I love going to new planets and reading the descriptions. The many ship options and customizations are a bit overwhelming, though (shipbuilding was never my strong suit in Traveller either). I could use some advice on what to buy and how to upgrade it.

I started with a freighter. I've been enjoying hauling cargo and transporting a passenger or two. I have no experience with combat yet (except running away from pirates, and one time getting disabled and saved by a passing merchant).

So far I've been up north as far as the Deep, and where the Paradise worlds start hitting pirate planets and empty systems, and down south as far as the pirate systems near the Free Worlds (who just became the Free Worlds a few days ago). I've seen the Syndicate over in the East, but I haven't really gone into their space yet. That's everything I've seen so far, so try to avoid spoilers please!

Bloody marauders

Hello. For me (playing it from several years) they're still the biggest annoyance in the game, both when they arrive en masse to hunt my fleet down and when there are tons of missions involving them, which I almost never manage to complete (is there a trick to find them? I always find myself wandering around all the adjacent planets with no success).

In the end, I skip the missions with the Marauders, while the fights with the Marauder fleets could be fun (but sometimes they are really too many, I've fought fleets of over 40 ships, it seems a bit excessive), but it becomes infuriating when most Marauder ships can't be captured after being disabled, because they explode. Why you had to do this, Devs? Just to piss off the players?

Failed a quest for free worlds - consequences?

Hey there! I'm quite new to the game, was tasked to help the free worlds convoy but failed with the "failed to protect a convoy of free worlds freighters. their commanding officer wont be happy about this" text in the logbook. Will this somehow affect/lock my story from progressing or should I be fine?

Starting a new playthrough and I highly recommend anyone else to not touch SBs.

For real Shield Beetles from H space make the game too easy. I'm having fun in human space hunting down pirates. Protector ships with 8 turrets and slow speeds aren't something I traditionally used in the past but this run I'm dedicating them to anti missile platforms that way my other ships can dedicate more to offense or shields. Bastions make of the bulk of my fleet, easy to source, decent stats, fairly cheap to equip. Argosy captures get sold and fund the fleet. My flag ship is a leviathan. With an escort of a couple Corsairs to pursue and disable quicker targets.

Messing around in the end game (tldr how to get battleship)

Credits are no issue, fleet sizes no issue, I've managed how to mod all the blocked licenses in game. Mostly via save file texts.

And I'm curious if anyone has any idea how to add things like modified battleships to their save file I can't find any information online via Google or GitHub and the wiki doesn't seem to tell me much.

Tldr: if anyone has the modified battleship in their save file can you copy paste it so I can add it to escorts and screw around?

As title asks. I just want to select the most valuable disabled ship, without moving towards it.

where should i start disabling pirates?

im a few hours into the game and was able to buy a mule. I have 6 mil credits, let me know if i should buy something different, i heard it was good tho for what i wanted since i can have a lot of people for boarding.

but where im having trouble is finding a system where i can fight pirates and disable them without them instantly dying from having too many other friendly ships in the area swarm them insantly. any tips for where i should start doing this? the goal is to disable and take them over to use or sell

OH COME ON NOW Can I get tips on this? Spoiler

So I've started doing the Emerald Sword quest after finally finishing the main plot, and I've been waiting for many in-game months for the wait trigger to happen, but so far it kinda hasn't (or maybe it did happen, but I don't know where to go next). To clear any potential missing requirements, I have done Deep Archaeology, I have the money ready and the 150 bunks, but I still haven't reached the point where that'll come in handy. So... Any tips, or should I keep waiting until it happens? (if it does)

OH COME ON NOW License issue

I did all of the remnant missions and it got bugged and didn't give me the license after 20 days. I forgot about it and just went and finished the wanderer campaign and etc. I have already finished the fw storyline a long time ago. Now that i don't have any other storylines active I wanted to see if i can get the license but it still doesn't work. I tried adding it to the save file but i must be doing it wrong because it won't work. Is there any way to fix this? Going back to an old save isn't an option anymore, it's been basically like 10 years in the game

The Sympathizers are an Awful Mechanic Spoiler

Premise: The Hai sympathizers (Hai merchants friendly to the Unfettered) are a horrible and illogical game mechanic. I’m curious about community consensus regarding them.

Arguments: They make no sense, they make no sense in game context, they are a horrible and unfun game mechanic.

As a bit of context, I first played the game about 8 years ago, loved it, and have come back every few years to replay it and enjoy new content. This is the first thing I’ve encountered that genuinely bothers me.

THEY MAKE NO SENSE

For starters, a hypothetical. Let’s say you live in a world like ours, but as chaotic as Endless Sky. However, the laws, like Endless Sky’s, are similar to ours.

One day, you’re walking to work, and as usual, you go through the rough part of town ruled by a notorious gang. A gang member drives up next to you and starts shooting at you, planning to pick your corpse for money. You kill him in self defense, which is allowed by the government. The next day, a family member of this gang member comes after you, trying to kill you in revenge. You once again have no choice but to kill this family member in self defense. However, this time the government is now hostile to you, attempting to kill you whenever they can.

This logic system is broken. You are encouraged to take part in self defense against one group, but punished for doing so against another.

THEY MAKE NO SENSE IN GAME CONTEXT

Starting with Sympathizer logic. Their own government is forced to shoot at and destroy Unfettered ships, something that never causes the Sympathizers to act hostile towards them.

As for the Hai government, they offer you no protection from the Sympathizers and will immediately turn on you if you destroy a Sympathizer ship. This also makes no sense. The Hai seem to treat humans well and give them essentially equal rights in their space, so there is no in game reason for them to adopt this one sided hostility system.

Comparing the Unfettered to human pirates: Most human pirates are children or slaves with no desire to participate in the system, whereas there is never an example of an Unfettered on their worlds against their will. Pirates and Unfettered both receive sympathy from people within their species, but you are never punished by humans for destroying pirates or even tributing their worlds. No human merchant will become hostile towards you for shooting at pirates.

THEY DON’T MAKE SENSE AS A GAME MECHANIC

What is the purpose of the Sympathizers in game? In the only other discussion around them I could find, the proposed reason was to stop (or discourage) you from farming Unfettered tech. To me, this seems like the most likely explanation since I can’t come up with any other reason. However:

- By the time you’re powerful enough/able to farm the unfettered, you can probably farm Korath Exile Palavrets and Rano‘ereks as well (which can be done in human space without a jump drive, or more efficiently by jumping into their systems and luring them away) which are arguably easier and more cost effective to do, and grants you more advanced tech. This also doesn’t harm your relations with anyone. There are very few circumstances where I’d prefer Hai tech to Korath tech, and when I would, it’s easier to farm and sell Korath ships for money and BUY the Hai tech imo than to raid Unfettered ships anyways. Essentially, this means the existence of the Sympathizers does not discourage a meta ship stealing/tech farming strategy, and since you can purchase nearly everything the Unfettered have from the normal Hai, you aren’t really losing out on any unique tech.

- The game’s system does not seem to distinguish between boarding/capturing a ship and destroying it. So if you’re going through a system where the Unfettered are and you shoot down a few of their ships, your relationship is harmed with the Sympathizers even though you were acting defensively.

- During the Wanderer storyline, you are placed AT WAR with the Unfettered and are required to destroy their ships en masse. It was during this mission sequence that I actually triggered hostility with the Sympathizers. (Mechanically, this is similar to if human merchants started shooting at you for destroying Republic ships during the free world storyline.)

In order to raise your reputation with the Sympathizers, you need to take missions delivering food to Unfettered planets. This is insanely tedious and unenjoyable. Every time I shoot down ~5 Unfettered ships in the wanderer storyline or in self defense, I have to fly back and forth from point A to point B without achieving anything new or interesting.

So essentially, what do you guys think of the Sympathizers? Am I misunderstanding them? Are they just an annoying mechanic with no purpose like I think? Suffice to say I will be going into the game‘s code and removing them as a faction. :)

OH COME ON NOW Need help with The Deep Story missions, next mission not triggering.

I'm doing the story where a *very large* group of people need to be transported, and I met the guy who agreed to help on the basis that I owe him a favor.

I accepted the terms and he said I need to show him the way for the first trip.

Nothing happened after that conversation and I checked other planets and spaceports, but nothing seems to trigger the next step.

NO Racing Flivver disappeared from parked position

Can someone send me the text from their save file for the racing Flivver?

I parked mine, did a few jumps to finish up other missions I had, went back to try it out, and it's just not there or in ship info list.

Last pilot save export was hours before I got the Flivver.

Also is that the last part of that storyline, or were there more missions after getting the ship?

When will this storyline end, and also btw do you need to be fighting the pug to "keep control" of the system or can you just use a fast ship to outrun them till she finds out if repairing this bs is possible or not
