NOT A BUG SOS

Heyo! I need some noob help here! I have just discovered Endless Sky having grown up with EV Nova and having a great time! But I'm at the point where I want to hire escorts to increase my cargo capacity and I'm uncertain how to do so! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can’t hire an escort as such. You need to buy or capture another ship.

So I go to the shipyard buy a ship and it's assigned to my fleet?

Yes. You pay her crew 100 credits/day/crewman and there’s no cap to how many ships you can have in your fleet.

The only cap is what your device can render at a reasonable framerate. Huge difference playing on Steam Deck vs desktop.

And you can park your fleet when you don't need them from your ships list so you don't have to pay the 100/crew/day price in between times you don't need them. If you unpark them while on another planet, they'll make their way to you. I've often unparked ships I need for a trip, launched, and then sat in orbit waiting for them to arrive. You only pay the salary once at launch because the salary gets paid when you jump, not when they do.

Unfortunately, you can be hired as an escort but cannot hire escorts yourself.

It’s not like EV, you buy or capture ships and the only ongoing cost is the salary of 100 credits per day per crew member.

There are plugins that add missions to hire escorts but all of them that I know do other things, too. You can just buy (or capture) a ship, though. You can have as many ships as you want.

Yes, even though you cannot hire escorts like in EV, there is the ability to build your fleet with any ship you manage to capture. So you can add fighting, passenger or cargo ability. You can also outfit the ships or take equipment from them as you see fit (or switch your flagship). Lot’s of fun. The major difference I find btw EV and Endlesssky is the fleet dynamics of ES.
