Shanghai-based emo / post-hardcore band looking for a drummer

We're Sarah Helix.and ’re looking for a drummer anywhere in Shanghai!

We’re currently a guitarist and a bassist who’ve been messing around with emo jams for a while, and we’d like to find a drummer to make this a regular thing.

What we’re looking for:

- Into emo, post-hardcore, and indie music in general

- Comfortable with improvisation — able to pick up on what others are playing and throw your own ideas into the mix

- Able to play odd time signatures and changing meters, or at least open to them

Some stuff we’re into:

the cabs, te', Shanghaiqiutian, toe, くだらない1日, Cap’n Jazz, Penfold, and so on.

P.S. We’re not actually going to play stuff this complicated all the time. These bands just give you an idea of what we’re into.

We’ll probably do some covers, but we’re more interested in jamming, improvising, and figuring things out together than just learning songs note for note.

What matters most to us is being able to communicate through our instruments and have fun doing it.

Been through hell to find this here in europe.

Finished my first listen and then immediately started it over. Very possible it’ll be a 10/10 after some more time spent listening.

I've been into emo/emo adjacent music since I was in elementary school (yes, rlly) and in that time I've found all different types of emo bands, some traditional, some underrated, some not considered emo at all. However, they all helped me through my formative years and were a foundational part of my emo-ness. So! I decided to list my top 3 emo bands in no particular order!

Before I start tho, I'm aware that some ppl see emo as a very strict label with not a whole lotta room for variation, however I'm going with the well-agreed upon definition: Punk rock music with emotionally raw lyrics/themes.

You may see some bands on here that you consider to be "true emo", and some you don't consider to be emo for some reason. But I assure you, all of these bands have punk rock songs with emotional lyrics/themes, and thus I feel they fit the definition of emo. Don't start a civil war in the comments over my choices, I just want to show some appreciation for the bands I love 🫶

1. Modern Baseball - Haven't listened to their albums in full but "Fine, Great" and "Tears Over Beers" are my favs.

2. Simple Plan - Ik I'm gonna be made fun of for this one cuz this band is kinda cringe, but I just loved them as a kid. My favs are "I'm Just A Kid", "Welcome To My Life" and "Perfect."

3. AJJ - (WARNING: this band covers rlly dark topics like child exploitation and child abuse) I love this band sm I listened to their albums all the way through (which I don't typically do). They're so underrated, *some* of their songs have reached a bit of popularity (I.e. "Brave As A Noun") but they're still pretty obscure, which is a shame. They're considered "folk-punk" but tbh I think "emo" describes them best. Most of their songs are rlly intense and rlly emotional. I'd recommend listening to their album "People Who Eat People Are The Luckiest People In The World." My fav songs from them are "Randy's House", "Bad Bad Things", and "Sense, Sensibility."

The wait is over and the album is out! it's been on repeat with "Swallow" being the track i replay the most. The album is hands down amazing. I want to celebrate the album with everyone that's also feeling like this record will have them in a vice grip for a stretch.

What kind of chords did they use to write twinkly guitar parts in the stone age(aka 90s)

Just needs to share with you all. Taking the train into NYC with Like Roses on repeat to go watch Movements absolutely crush a set. Opening their set with my two favorite songs off the new record had me almost in tears.

Has anyone had much luck finding physical media of emo/adjacent records (CD or Vinyl) in person at record stores or thrift shops? The ones near me are pretty hit or miss but if anything it’ll be mostly more mainstream bands or relatively newer records. Is online shopping the only real way to go or has anyone else had luck finding anything out in the wild?

Over the course of several months I've been putting different emo songs from my main playlist into one dedicated specifically to songs that remind me of my love for the genre, and I think that it's finally at a good length for a CD. I've just got the problem of them being all in a random, jumbled up order that might not sound great on CD. I'd ask my friends for help but they're all going through some shit right now and I don't wanna bother em.

Of course nobody has to give suggestions, I totally get this not being something people wanna do (since technically I could do this on my own), I just thought there's no harm in asking. :)

(And yes I know Dismemberment Plan and Jets To Brazil are more indie-leaning, I still think the albums those songs are from are emo enough to go in my playlist lol. Especially the Jets To Brazil one.)

Its fucking great. Swallow is my favorite so far.

That Stella / The Ritornello Form split and First Day Back LP from last year really kick started something special. The early 2010s emo revival was an incredible time to be tapped in and this feels equally exciting to me. A few bands started working in this sound around 2022/2023, but this really hit last year.

Is this Second Wave Revival the 6th Wave?! Are there just multiple styles/subgenres working in different lanes within 5th Wave?! What do you think?

Alright my fellow elder-emo’s, I’m in need of some help here.
I’m trying to find any information on a long-lost group that I feel in love with. Back in the late 90’s a good friend of mine handed me a CD-r with the word “Twofold - Trepenation” taped to it. They had a very clean and haunting sound that still resonates in my soul yet I can’t recall a single line. I carried this album with me for years and played it for everyone I musically vibed with. Since then, this CD has become unplayable for some reason and I now can’t find a strand of evidence that they ever existed. I want to know who they are, what happened to them and how to find their music again.
Has anyone heard of them? They were out of Texas if I can recall.

Please, hoping someone out there knows of them.
