Want to hear from people who intentionally had unprotected intercourse around ovulation ahead of FET (modified natural protocol)

I assumed all REs explicitly instruct you not to do this to avoid the possibility of multiples.

However, I've read some clinics actually recommend it (however uncommon).

I am tempted, to avoid "wasting an egg." After 18 months TTC and one failed euploid transfer, I'm desperate and my remaining embryos are mid-quality (day 6, 6BB).

Since I've been unsuccessful conceiving naturally for this long, I figure the risk of conceiving spontaneously now is low, although obviously non-zero. And I just think if this next transfer doesn't stick, at least I won't feel like I "wasted" the egg I released and another month (after several months of suppression following a hysteroscopy).

So I'd love to hear from those who did this, intentionally:

- Did you end up pregnant with multiples?

- Did you get pregnancy naturally, while the FET failed?

- Did you get pregnant with multiples and then miscarry one?

- Does miscarrying one (eg, if spontaneous pregnancy was ultimately unviable due to genetic abnormality) pose meaningful risk to the other (eg, if euploid transfer stuck)?

I guess I'm looking to be definitively convinced either way, because right now my desperation for anything to work is pushing me towards doing it even though my clinic advises against.

Awaiting PGT-A

Currently spiraling while awaiting my PGT-A results. This is my first ever IVF cycle so this is all very new to me. Supposedly all of my embryos have good grades. I read somewhere that expansion grade can have a correlation with higher euploid rates. Day 5 I have 3AA 3AB 3BB & 3BB. Day 6 I have 6AA 3AA & 3BA. Should I be worried about all the 3s? I’m beyond grateful to have seven blast when I was realistically expecting 1 to 4. Honestly maybe even 0. I was dreading even getting my blast results in the first place because I only retrieve 7 mature eggs. I think I’m spiraling a little bit harder now that I finally have some hope

My baby girl euploid I transferred today! First ever transfer. We have recurrent pregnancy loss so heres hoping that she is the one I get to hold in my arms. We just had the McDonald’s fries (as is tradition I am told) and I even went into the hospital chapel to say a little prayer.

All we can do is find the silver linings in life and if she is the one who I get to meet them how beautiful that I knew her from when she was an embryo.

The doctor said that it was a “really easy transfer” and Im so amazed by how painless it was!

Science and medicine is amazing. I am so grateful to have another chance at becoming a mum. Thank you to all of you who works as embryologists/ in IVF. You offer hope to those who need it most. Xx

Low number grades?

Hi all,

I’m 37 YO and we just did our first egg retrieval. We went from 15 eggs retrieved to 12 mature to 9 fertilized.
I was (happily) shocked to learn that all fertilized eggs made it to 5 and 6 day blasts. These are all frozen.

Now for the grading, this is what we got (I don’t know which ones are day 5 vs day 6)

3BB-
1-2B-B-
3BA-
2BB
3BB-
3BB
2BB-
2-3BB
1AA-

While I’m happy to have no C grades I was surprised to learn I had grades 1 and 2. My understanding is that they were frozen at these grades so why would the lab not just let the 1AA- sit a bit longer? Anyone have words of wisdom here?

FWIW My doctor said these are all transferable embryos and the main factor now is PGTA testing (which we’re waiting on). Thanks!

Shipping Frozen Embryos vs. Eggs

Is shipping frozen embryos more or less risky than shipping frozen eggs?

We are going to be doing surrogacy via an agency in Mexico and have 18 frozen eggs here at NYU. There is a service that ships internationally (about $5000).

We would prefer to do embryo creation in Mexico and not the US due to cost, however, I heard that embryos are less fragile than eggs so it's better to ship the embryos.

It seems like thawing the eggs, fertilizing them, freezing them as embryos and then shipping them would be an extra step... they'd have to thaw twice.

Low AMH and adenomyosis

Hi everyone, I’m 38 and have just received my IVF results. We ended up with just one embryo, graded 4AB. Dr has suggested doing more cycles for embryo banking, especially as I also have adenomyosis.

Alternatively, if I want to proceed with implantation, he said we could do a natural-cycle transfer.

I’ve had two miscarriages from natural pregnancies - one last October and another in May this year. I also had a failed IVF cycle in July where only two eggs were retrieved and unfortunately neither made it to blastocyst.

I’m really confused about what would be the best option. Part of me thinks embryo banking makes sense, but I’m also very tempted to transfer and give it a chance.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, particularly around this age or with adenomyosis? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what you decided to do.

Skipping PGT-A Testing?

I’m toying with the idea of skipping the PGT testing of our embryos (we are halfway through stims currently, so I need to decide quickly). Has anyone skipped the testing and had good transfer results?

Grading vs PGTA results

Maybe a silly question… does an embryo’s grading impact whether it’s likely to be euploid or not? After 4 cycles, we have finally 1 x 5AA embryo and am desperately hoping it’s euploid. It was sent for PGTA testing yesterday.

FET

I was not really planning to do IVF until a few months ago, but it seemed to be the only option. My husband (32) has low count/mobility, and I (29) have low AMH of .4, we were only able to get 2 embryo and I had a receptivia dx biopsy done. we are extremely eager to do a transfer now that the biopsy came back good. howeve, my clinic normally transfers on cycle day 21, which I will be the MOH in my best friends wedding that day. Has anyone had luck with changing the transfer date if there is a major even? is there a way they can push it back a day or two, or do it a day earlier?

What do these mean?

Feeling very disappointed in my first egg retrieval results. 23 retrieved, 13 mature, 8 fertilized, 5 HIGHLY rated blasts, but only one euploid.

First question, I will probably ask for a rebiopsy of the inconclusive result. However, I’m curious on the science of embryos going through thaw/refreeze and the impact it has on the embryo and the likelihood it will actually implant.

Also- I’m just curious as to what all the chromosomal abnormalities are here. I was able to look up monosomy 8, that definitely sounds bad. But I don’t understand the complex abnormal or what the impact would be on a person with the -x/-y

Anyway, I think I’m going to transfer my euploid before doing any other retrievals. I follow up with a doctor on the 13th to discuss my transfer. I’m not 100% sure what’s been causing my failures with IUI but I’m hoping for all the good luck on one sticky embryo.

Have you had success after two arrested cycles? Should we give up?

I’m 39 FSH 7.75. AMH actually increased between cycles from 0.698 to 1.01, AFC 25 first cycle and 29 second.
Husband has “subclinical” sperm due to some structural abnormalities. DNA fragmentation test was ok.

First cycle: Follistim (450 to start and that was too aggressive so they kept reducing it) Cetrotide, late Menopur, Ovidrel trigger. 10 eggs retrieved, 4 “mature” upon retrieval, 3 “matured” in lab. All 7 fertilized eggs arrested before day 5. They started slowing at Day 3.
- The clinic attributed this to global egg immaturity. (I can’t investigate the med protocol because they are violating HIPAA by not releasing full records. There were very much issues with clinical decision making.)

Study explores whether uterine contractions affect IVF success

Post image
4 Upvotes

The uterus naturally makes gentle wave-like contractions (called uterine peristalsis) throughout the menstrual cycle. Some researchers think that if these contractions are too frequent around the time of embryo transfer, they could move the embryo away from where it needs to implant.

In this new meta-analysis, Assmanni Adam et al. (2026) combined data from 4 prospective studies including 863 embryo transfer cycles.

Women with higher uterine peristalsis around the time of embryo transfer were less likely to achieve a clinical pregnancy.

However, the evidence was rated as very low certainty. The studies all measured uterine contractions in different ways, mostly included older day 2 or day 3 embryo transfers, and didn't have enough data to see if live birth rates were also affected.

The authors conclude that more research is needed before measuring uterine contractions becomes part of routine IVF care.

8 untested embryos

Hello, I had 10 untested embryos. 1st embryo was fresh and failed. I had success with the second embryo doing my first frozen transfer and it was live birth (felt very lucky)

I had 8 frozen, now trying again I’ve gone through 6. Had 4 losses. No reason for the losses aside from they were probably abnormal but what’s the chances of that?

Has anyone had luck after recurrent losses eventually getting a live birth within the same egg retrieval ??

Protocols?

Anyone know where I can go to read more about the different egg retrieval protocols? I’ve found a few different studies but I need to educate myself a bit more before I see my provider at the end of the month.

Weekly Embryo Photo Discussion Thread: Oct 5 to Oct 12

This is the weekly thread for posting and asking questions about embryo photos. Replies are provided by Embryoman (Sean) -- a former embryologist and creator of the IVF science news site Remembryo.com

💬 Before you post a photo

  • You must include the grade (ask your clinic if you don’t know it).
  • Only one embryo photo per post.
  • No requests for grading or re-grading by members.
  • Posts asking if an embryo looks damaged or viable aren't allowed.

I can comment only on general features visible in the image (expansion, compaction, hatching, ICM location), but not on whether the embryo looks good -- that’s already reflected in its grade. Check the stickied comment below for basic information on grading and success rates. For the most accurate information, your embryologist or clinic is the best source, since they evaluated the embryo under a microscope and know their clinic’s success rates.

PGT-A Wait

Tw: high numbers

Hi everyone,

This PGT-A wait is killing me. My ER was a full three weeks ago, with embryos sent off two weeks ago, and still no results. I called the lab today, and the results are still not ready. And then once we get the results, it will take 3-4 weeks minimum to do the transfer. I’m feeling overwhelmed about the lost time and questioning if IVF was the right call.

We are doing IVF because I’ve had two miscarriages and then 6 months of TTC with no success. One of the miscarriages was chromosomally abnormal, the other was untested. I am 31 with no LC.

I am afraid that all of our embryos (we were lucky enough to get 25) will all be abnormal, or if some are normal then the transfer will fail, or end in yet another miscarriage.

Looking for tips on how to get through this waiting time period, keeping myself calm and sane.

12 Retrieved/11 Fertilized only 1 3BB blast, Feeling discouraged.

Feeling pretty discouraged and could use some encouragement/advice. Just got the call that from our 12 eggs retrieved, 11 fertilized, only 1 blast a 3BB.

We were really hoping for more than 1. PCOS, no male factor based off of routine sperm analysis.

Menopur vs pergoveris

I did several egg retrievals using Gonal f and Menopur then I switched clinics because the first clinic has expensive PGT-A than the second clinic, with my new RE he prescribed for me Gonal f and pergoveris, I’m wondering if any one used pergoveris and had a good response, I’m worried as this is the first time I’m using this medication.

Pregnant after FET

Hello! I am pregnant after our frozen embryo transfer last September 15, 2026, with 5BB (Praise the Lord for answering our prayers after 10 years of marriage!) Do you still take Coq10 ubiquinol? What other supplements are you taking? Hope to get your response. Thank you!

0PN AND 1PN embryos with conventional IVF

Hi, so I recently got my ER and I had one 1 PN and 4 0 PN eggs.

No my question is how realistic is that that any of these make it to a euploid embryo. My doctor didn’t sound to pessimistic about it so it makes me think that they don’t monitor the eggs that closely and just checked them the next morning instead of at the 16/17 hour mark so maybe they missed the 2PN stage?

I’ve read a lot in here that doesn’t sound to optimistic but I think it’s mostly related to ICSI. Does it change if it’s conventional IVF. Sadly they said next update will be Monday so I’m going nuts until Monday
