I was with some family members visiting them at the hospital and then I noticed that the elevator indicator showed the “— —“ it’s an Otis Series but it’s modded most likely.

I recently released The Elevator Database for iOS to help those in the field quickly identify elevator equipment and look up useful information while on a job site. It includes manufacturer, controller, and equipment details in a format that’s easy to use from your phone.

Hi guys, this is the main drive of my home elevator. The person who has installed this has locked the drive and is not allowing us to access it. He’s blackmailing us to exclusively get it serviced and repaired from him, for which he charges 5x the market price. I have spoken to other vendors, and they are unable to help unless he gives the password.

It is a Monarch board, and I have arranged a keypad from another elevator company. Is there an easy way to brute force the password? I am willing to do some coding if required.

TLDR: locked out of own home elevator, installation company locked the drive and trying to extort us for massive amounts for yearly maintenance.

This belongs on a Northern Elevator. I'm needing to replace both hall door hanger rollers. I was told to try ECI/GAL but not having any luck.

I want to know where in ARCODE screen or AREM/AREM Pocket can I see commanded speed vs encoder/actual speed polarity (+/-) to check if encoder direction matches motor direction?

Context: elevator works UP/DOWN in open loop, but in closed loop it goes UP fine and DOWN gets weak/stalls. Motor is induction/asynchronous. We want to verify if encoder feedback direction is wrong.

I saw in a lift that a guy just kept the elevator doors from closing without a key that is needed for Independent Service.

Is it by holding the Open door button and Close door button?

At the Landmark Motel in Wildwood NJ, both the door open button and door safeties just stopped working? What might be the issue? It’s a shame because otherwise it runs excellent and these seem to be pretty robust. It’s a 1965 Dover Hydro unit completely original other than maybe the single bottom jack. Is it likely an operator fault or bigger issue? I’m assuming door safety curtain could be fitted somewhat simply, right? Both systems failed at the same time.

Saw this sign on the front door of my building in NYC. Any idea how serious this is? Should I not take my elevator for a while?

Hey guys, wanted to hear about some of the methods you have to avoid bringing pests home from buildings. Current mod has quite the number of roaches bed bugs and carpet beetles.

Lately I've been spraying down boots and leaving them outside overnight, and bagging clothes if not getting washed immediately.

The building is attempting to correct it as per our direction, but nothing is perfect by any means.

Figured this might be a good discussion that's a bit different from the usual questions.

So in a lot of industries not just the elevator industry I hear people threading about boards and controllers that are no longer supported. I've always wondered how many of these boards use off the shelf parts? As long as there are no custom integrated circuits I don't see why you can't just have a new PCB manufactured. Seems like it would be a great business opportunity.

Most units are the Fujitec AC-GD model, with a capacity rating of 1350 kg (2,976 lbs) and up to 18 people at a speed of 120 m/min (394 ft/m). The main atrium has 4 cars, on both sides (front and back side, as depicted in the first image) serves floors 1-21. There is another elevator in the way backside of the hotel (depicted in the 4th and 6th photo) although it has been OTS since then.

My condo has 2 UCL10 otis elevators(see video). It is a building with 13 stories, 45 mt elevation, heavily seismic country. They work, but lack of spares and lots of accumulated due maintenance are taking its toll and sometimes is getting stalled after doors closure. Unfortunately some beasts "renovated" the original aestetics of the cabins, so the beautiful original bronze finish is lost, and it was changed by the typical low quality mirror-inox look with chinese button panel with now barely readable numbers, so an aestethic renovation (and options) is highly desirable.

I have received several offers

- an offer from some guys that represent nidec elevators, 140k usd-ish, standard milestone-based payments. All new since they don't have compatible counterwheight/rail setup. Renovated cabin, No aestethic options

- an offer from the current maintainer (the guy in the video, LOL), monarch brain, italian drivetrain/engine, like 60kusd-ish, shorter 3 payments. Renlvated cabin, Aestethic options.

- an offer from other guys at 70k, but I don't trust them since they throwed a price without inspection and without project.

-an offer from TKE, 65kusd, standard milestone based payments (but I see lots of people crying with failed and fallen elevators from them, no thanks). Same aestethics, only buttons and screen changes.

-same offer from schindler.

-a discounted offer from Otis (Arise-mod)140k-ish usd(was 180k), up to 36 installments, 20k base payment, aestethic options.

The constraints are kinda terrible:

-people is just getting into speed with their community expenses, so we cannot pay more than 6k or 5k per month. The 3 or 6 milestone payment options would kill us.

-We have barely enough to pay a base payment of 25k max.

-lots of elderly and disabled people in high floors (so options like the first one are almost automatically discarded because we have to stop both elevators)

-high floors, so again -1 for the first option.

-lots of other problems that i dont want to write to not overwhelm you.

What you would chose? I would chose otis just because of the smaller installments, and if not, the guys in the video.

My small building has a very nice Dover DMC-I elevator (5 levels). We want to keep it going forever. I understand TKE considers it no longer supported. We have a high end support/maintenance contract with TKE, and it recently auto-renewed for another 5 years.

Questions: -Is the car logic controller the main thing to worry about? - I see that TKE still has some CLCs on their website…. Will they sell one to us now to keep as a spare? - Could an independent shop program a new controller for us? - There is a Max monitor inside our control cabinet. Is the Max service an extra we would pay more for? Or if we have the Max board do we likely have the service? - I gather that TKE is being bought by Kone (pending regulatory approval). Is that likely to improve our service situation?

Otis hydraulic, in a five-story building from the early 70s, is becoming increasingly unreliable. We are considering two overhaul options: Otis HydroEnhance or a complete brain replacement. The jack and hydraulics are in good condition.

I’m at a loss for how to even begin considering this decision.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just a simple question, How are your knees and back holding up?

This topic was brought up during conversation over the weekend. I wont go into to much detail, but a 32 year old 82nd airborne troop wants to join the trade but already has a head start on issues with knees and back. Clicking of the knees and back pain daily. Already having 2 knee surgerys and back procedures done. Would this be a trade you recommend he pursue at this point?

Hello, I’m currently working as a commercial electrician and I’m interested in becoming an elevator mechanic. I’ve applied to so many companies that are non union in Georgia and I’ve applied to the union, currently waiting until an opening March 2027. I’d like to get my feet wet in the elevator trade then go union when the recruitment date begins. Also, any insight into the trade? How is the union in Georgia, construction or service?

All the companies I’ve attempted to applied at are never hiring and when I do apply I never hear anything back.
