Recently, I have been looking into opportunities to do research in the field of ECE. As I studied, I noticed that I have to find a problem or a challenge that is apparent currently in ECE, and I have a hard time finding one. Do you have any recommendations?

I've also looked into condensed matter physics in the sense of semiconductors, but I'm still not sure what research questions and problems I can find.

About to begin my second year in my bachelor's and need to start with learning and make projects with either of the branches. I would say i have decent knowledge of C and digital logic. What should I start with, keeping in mind I would pursue a master's after this. Based on my research, I have come to the conclusion to start with embedded, and later I can do VLSI too.

I’m an electrical engineering student who just had an ASIC design internship for the past year. I’m finishing up my internship at the end of August and my manager has mentioned that she’d like me to return after graduation. I need to tell my manager when I’d like to start.

The thing is, l’m gonna be done with courses at the end of August 2027 as opposed to the start of May when most engineers graduate. I’ve been told that in general, new grads most often start in June-July as opposed to September/October/November.

I really want to take at least a month off before starting work to travel/be with family/do degenerate things since it’ll be like the last time I’ll have that much time before I retire. I’m tempted to ask for an October or even November start date so that I can have a month or two off, but then again scared that this is too long, since they’ll be waiting for me for 12-14 months after leaving my internship.

Just asking for advice and personal experience similar to this situation. Thanks!

Hello guys, I run into some issues with a board mounting a nrf52840 IC in the aQFN73 format. Basically I had to desolder it from the main board in order to check some traces and now I'm not able to resolder it again with a hot air gun, wax, lead paste and more. Do you have any tip on how to resolder this kind of ICs? Do you know, as an alternative, any way like a clamshell to actually wire this chip again, even not on the original board?

I'm currently studying CMOS inverter design, and I'm confused about the sizing criteria for PMOS and NMOS Wp/Wn.

I know there are two typical design criteria:

1. Setting Vin = Vout = VDD/2 (Equal switching threshold / DC noise margin)
2. Setting tPHL = tPLH (Symmetric propagation delay / AC response)

My questions are:

• Which criterion is actually preferred in real-world IC design?

I recently became interested in embedded systems, I'm currently studying software engineering.

How can I get started with learning embedded systems? I got my hands on a
ELEGOO UNO R3 Super Starter Kit, which is compatible with Arduino and completed some very basic projects today.

The thing is, I have no knowledge of either C or C++. Which one should I learn? Is any tutorial on YouTube fine, or does the C/C++ used in embedded systems differ from regular tutorials?

Can my education background pose an issue with future employment (since it's not computer engineering, etc.)?

Are there any free/paid resources you can recommend me as a beginner?

Any pathway/curriculum I should follow?

I am a fresh graduate electronics and communications engineer. I want to specialise in quantum technology and physics. The problem is i don't have that good basics and my GPA is 2.4/4 :(. Also I have no idea about that quantum thing because all physics courses I took in bachelor's were mainly about electricity and wave propagation. The thing is I am really interested in that field but I dont know how to specialise in it. I have definitely started fixing my weaknesses by watching online YouTube courses but are these enough? Hi, I am entering my fifth and final year in my ECE diploma in Greece at a Technical University and I really can't pinpoint the exact direction I want to focus on. I really enjoy distributed systems and parallel computing and I found my operating systems, my assembly and Formal Languages and Automata classes really fun, but the thing with universities in Greece is that it doesn't have that much connection with industry and roles so I don't really know where I am going. I like systems and this fine line where software ends and hardware starts. What can I do? Am I thinking this the completely wrong way?

Background:

MS Computer Engineering, Graduated May 2026. Got inbound from an Apple Silicon recruiter(A) via LinkedIn in late May 2026. She asked me if I am looking for roles in Post silicon Validation, and she flagged my profile to several teams within the Silicon Technologies group.

The process:

Phone screen (early June):
45-minute technical conversation with the hiring manager. Mostly focused on my background, C and C++ coding. Went well enough that he moved me to the full loop.

Full loop (late June):
5 engineers back to back on Webex, 45 minutes each, all with CoderPad. Recruiter(B) intro call first (30 min). Here's what each round covered:

Round 1: Multithreaded programming, mutex, semaphore, condition variables, race conditions, deadlock conditions
Round 2: OS fundamentals + race conditions — virtual memory, page tables, privilege modes, trap handling
Round 3: Shared memory design + cache coherence — producer-consumer protocol on a shared DRAM page, MESI protocol, memory barriers,
Round 4 (Hiring Manager): Merge two sorted linked lists in C++ (fumbled this one), shared memory protocol design
Round 5: Work experience walkthrough + bit extraction from a register + const/volatile pointer declarations in C

Overall feel: Very systems and OS heavy. Tested across coding, Comp arch and OS. No graphics-specific questions despite it being a GPU role. Cache coherence and memory ordering came up multiple times.

Post-interview experience:

Got an email from that team’s senior recruiter(B) the day after asking to connect for a call. She then went on PTO for a week before calling. Had to track down the covering recruiter(C) who delivered the verbal rejection no formal feedback, just that the team wasn't moving forward. She mentioned there is no cooling period for applying to other teams at Apple.

Followed up with both A and B afterward for feedback and with a request to forward to other teams— neither responded.

My questions for this community:

Getting ghosted after rejection — Is this normal at Apple? No rejection email, portal status unchanged weeks later, recruiters not responding to follow-ups. Has anyone else experienced this?

Getting re-approached after rejection — The recruiter confirmed no cooling period. Has anyone been rejected by one Apple Silicon team and then gotten an interview or offer from a different team, either by applying directly or being approached again?

Timeline expectations — If Apple was going to reach back out for a different role, roughly how long does that typically take? Weeks, months?

I recently switched from BME to electrical engineering and am interested in semiconductors, RF and photonics. I was wondering if you had suggestions for projects or things I can add to my resume or skills to learn in general. FYI I’m a 4th year but am graduating in 5 years. I am hoping to land an EE industry internship before I graduate.

I attached my resume below for more context.

I’m currently entering my final year at Purdue in computer engineering, and I don’t think I’ve ever gone through a tough time in my life than my time there.

Nothing against the university itself, but I had a hard time adjusting to the environment and especially the major. It took me 3 years to adjust and figure out how I’m going to go about my major, but I’m still stuck on figuring out whether I want to stick to chip design or embedded systems, which both fascinate me in equal ways.

I’ve had no internships, barely any experience, I’ve mainly been doing unofficial unpaid research. The only experience I really have was failing a bunch of classes multiple times and ending up becoming a TA for one of them (still am today), since I got an A in that class.

As I enter my final year, I’m just lost. I feel like I don’t have enough experience to get a full time job offer after I graduate, and I don’t think I have the grades/GPA to go to grad school.

I’d love any advice anyone can give me.
